      But still he genuinely loved Ruyi only - with others its just at-the-moment thing. He never discuss his personal feelings with anyone else nor seeks advice from them. Ruyi is his home, the person he runs to - that's why he took her for granted, knowing fully well she will never let him down.

      That’s not possible even if the former Emperor had not opposed Ruyi... her family background was not high enough to earn her an empress title. The family of Fuca ( the late empress) was so much more influential than Ruyi’s family. Just look at their fathers titles and brothers’ titles and you would know.

      @@amberthemagnificent7259 the education for being a wife/ empress vs a concubine/ consort was very different. Being a consort, she only needs to study poems, literature, some musical instruments, embroidery, make her own skin care/ makeup products... being a wife / empress, she, apart from learning those aforementioned, she needed to study bookkeeping/finance of a household, procurement issues like rice from different regions for different purposes say congee, rice, snack etc, different grading of stationery materials etc. they need to understand how to manage inventory such as household utensils, antiques, jewellery, and furniture etc, she needs to understand art and the source of their materials. These kinds of education need a lot of money and personnel investments on daughters. The empress could bring in some competent helpers from her family. These resources were expensive and time consuming to nurture. For example, those competent helpers once entered the palace they no longer belonged to the family officially. Imagined the family nurtured 1 to three generation of competent staff for this one single daughter. Not many families and their extended families could afford to invest personnel, money, time on their daughters to master all these skills. Ruyi comes from a noble family, but her family status is low among the noble class. She was not from the Yellow or white banner. her father and mother side did not produce any prominent courtiers or military background people. She was from a declining noble family. If you take a good look at the drama, there were lots of description about the family of Fuca, the bro of Empress Fuca etc... they were real influential people in the era of Qianlong. The back court ( the harem) is a miniature of the front court (the political arena). Consort Gao, being childless, could not be promoted to Imperial Consort without her father. Her father was another prominent courtier responsible for the famous flood relief program on dam and infrastructure building. There is no comparison from Ruyi’s family. In fact her family had to depend on her empress title to survive.

      @Ealsante Před 2 lety +2

      @@kazinam6357 But the fact remains that the Manchus are not real Chinese, and did not abide by Chinese cultural customs. Shaving the hair and wearing a queue; wearing robes with narrow sleeves and horse-hoof cuffs instead of the broad-sleeved silk robes, so on and so forth. These are all Manchu customs and Manchu dress, that were imposed on the Chinese population. In fact, one of the founding generals of the Qing dynasty proclaimed that 'you can keep your hair, or you can keep your head', and massacred upwards of 10,000 people in Nanjing for refusing to shave their hair (as it was actually against the precepts of Confucianism). It was a bloody imposition, and it cannot be seen as truly Chinese.

    • @kazinam6357
      @kazinam6357 Před 2 lety +2

      @@Ealsante I guess by saying "real" Chinese you mean ethnicity. But what I tried to stress in my previous comment was the influence and continuation of the Chinese culture throughout the Qing dynasty.
      Your example of the Manchu hairstyle and costumes is interesting, but can these lead to the absolute claim that the Qing regime is not culturally Chinese at all? What about the Chinese language it adopted and the political system it inherited largely from their Ming predecessors? What about the official promotion of Confucianism since the Kangxi reign and tiny examples like the wide application of Chinese embroidery on the Manchu dresses, since you mentioned their dresses? Can one fact of Manchu's cultural oppression rejects the entire Chinese cultural influence back on them?
      Also, about the quote you said about the founding general, note the word "founding." Manchu's Chinesenization was a GRADUAL process, and their affiliation and identification with the Chinese culture became more and more intimate as the time went. In this sense, Kangxi's promotion of Confucianism came nearly a century later after the start of the Qing dynasty, let alone his grandson Qianlong's further Chinesenization policies that I mentioned in my last comment... anyway, the cultural relationship between Hans and Manchus is very complicated, and that's why I asked previously that we should be open-minded and be cautious about any direct statement about who's being "real" Chinese and who's not. China has many ethnicities from the past to the present, and "Han culture," although dominant, hardly represents the whole of it.

      yes, costumes in this drama is what the palace people actually wore during that time. the team perfectly remake every single details, costumes, ceremony, rules and restricts..etc
      this is exactly what the coronation looked like during that time
      cuz this drama is the continuation of "Empresses in the Palace" which was a huge success n made a lot of money, so they got a huge budget to make this drama.

      @SwimmerPrince Před 3 lety +16

      Hi I just want to add... the costumes in the coronation scene are accurate only for Ruyi to the ones Qing Empresses wore, because their ceremonial attires were well documented and largely unchanged through the dynasty's run. The consort/concubine below her did not wear as elaborate attire as the reigning empress. In many scenes, this series costume designer also took many liberties, with a lot of details being exaggerated (particularly many of the headdress resembles late 19th century Qing instead of 18th century) Story of Yanxi Palace is a more accurate representation of Qianlong era attire and hairdressing.
