HOW TO WASH A FIGURE SKATING DRESS✨(journeybacktotheice)

Hello! Welcome back to my channel ✨ In this video I will be talking about how to wash + clean a figure skating costume. Most figure skating dresses and costumes can be washed. However, some might not be able to be washed or fully cleaned because of the fabric dyes or materials used. More details listed below

I highly recommend using a gentle soap designed for skating costumes, dance costumes, or specialty fabric. I am using the laundry soap flakes from the laundry evangelist brand. I will link the special soap below. You can also use a very small amount of Dawn dish soap. To eliminate odor I recommend adding a very small amount of white vinegar to your bath. I would always check with your dressmaker before doing so because this can effect some fabric dyes. Here are some important things to know about taking proper care of your skating costume.
1. Never dry clean your skating costume
2. Costumes with hand beading, intricate lace/details, or any special care materials on them should not be washed in a machine
3. Never iron or tumble dry your costume with high heat
4. Always test a small area of the dress first to check for color bleeding
5. CONTACT YOUR DESIGNER WITH ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE WASHING
I make all of my own skating costumes, as well as make them for other skaters. I cannot stress enough how important #5 is! If you are not 100% confident that your costume is washable or have any general care instructions please please please contact your dressmaker before washing it. Permanently damaging or destroying a very expensive costume can easily be avoided by asking the person that made the dress prior to washing. At the end of the day good designers will always take the time to help provide you with cleaning/care instructions. Hopefully you found this video helpful!
