    I love the Germany pavilion!! It's important to note that for those who have not eaten at the Biergarten restaurant before, the tables seat 6-8 people if I remember correctly. So if you are by yourself or just two or three people, you might end up making new friends!

      I was talking to a co-worker that was in the military and stationed in Germany. He was telling me how a fast food restaurant had much less seating than those here in the states and it was common for a stranger to sit at your table. The large tables may be by design. Glad you mentioned this as it was just a few days ago the he and I were talking about this.

    My problem as a german with the Germany Pavilion is that it portrays most of southern germany, especialy Bavaria, sooooooooo as someone from the northwestern part I feel kind of underwhelmed with the pavilion. To give you an idea what it feels like - imagine a USA Pavilion - but it's mostly based around Texas, all you see is Cowboy hats and boots and wild west stuff. This is not a critique of your video Tim - just my personal problem with the representation of germany shown at Epcot (and from reading the comment section I'm not alone). Other than that - great vid and hope you and Jen stay save in the next few days.

      @JosephDavies Před 6 lety +11

      The American Adventure Pavilion is not far from your example: it's a Colonial-era New England piece of American History (reminiscent of perhaps Philadelphia), which is pretty limited both temporally and geographically as far as being representative of the country and its many cultures. The pavilion on display exists today *only* in historical tourist attractions and museums.
      It would be interesting to try to mitigate this effect by creating a mixed-culture presentation that blends elements from all over each country represented in the World Showcase, but doing so in a way that is still coherent and recognizable might be a challenge.

    • @caroboenisch4263
      @caroboenisch4263 Před 6 lety +7

      Yes. I wanted to comment the same thing. But I think the picture americans have from Germany is good represented. I also Never heard of the pickle in the tree thing, but I‘m also from the northwest of germany, maybe that‘s why. Don‘t get me wrong I love the video, but it is quite far off from actual Germany.

    • @mamalipster6923
      @mamalipster6923 Před 6 lety +7

      As a Canadian I understand your feelings 100% Our Pavilion represents the west coast with its mountains and streams and waterfalls and then parts of Quebec thanks to Le Cellier. The rest of my amazing country has no representation there at all. Its quite sad.

    • @michschnitte82
      @michschnitte82 Před 6 lety +3

      I think that goes for all of the pavilions in Epcot. I'm from Berlin, but still I could totally identify with a lot of the traditions shown in the Germany pavilion. And as far as I can tell, they did a pretty good job on the things they are showing! So it definitely is a display of southern Germany, but a pretty accurate display of the different foods, building types, traditional crafts etc.

      I feel like this about the UK pavilion. I’m from Scotland and Scotland isn’t represented at all expect for the fact you can buy a Scotland sweatshirt. It’s mostly England/London that is represented which sucks because London is a tiny part of the UK

      Said to another person who kind of argued the same thing:
      Yea, I think they're trying to represent highlights and the most representative aspects of countries. Even the American pavilion is basically just based on Washington D.C./originating America, and nothing else. It goes for all of the pavilions, but I don't think they were trying to be non-inclusive. They have to pick and choose or else the pavilions would be either very scattered with small sections or giant in size.
      It's a fair thing to say. Kind of annoys me personally, despite being American, that the America pavilion has the huge building and main show but almost all of the other countries don't really have anything but shops. I think it was well-made for what it is and what they had.

    So loving this series of videos, I clicked so fast. It was a little strange however how you pointed out the fact that Germany has no attraction, because I thought you were going to touch on the fact that originally there was going to be the Rhine River Tour with the entrance being where the snack side is next to the Bier Garten. I wish Disney would have revisited this idea later on and actually added it. Also, now that there is no Snow White's Scary Adventure in the Magic Kingdom, and so many IPs coming to Epcot, it would be cool if they tore down that mural and added a new version of Snow White's Scary Adventure to the Germany Pavilion. There's still a good size show building back there, and I don't think the Bier Garten uses that entire space.

    @11:18 you are looking at Leberwurst (liver pate) and Fleischwurst (sausage which mostly is sliced up and used as meat in bread rolls / sandwiches)

    I was there in 2005. Wow Germany has changed. There was a chocolate store when I was there and you could get a little box sample of Ghirardelli chocolates and Toblerone that you don’t see in stores.

    Toffifay and Knoppers are so good!!! Toffifay are candies, a hazelnut coated in chocolate then caramel. Knoppers are like chocolate hazelnut wafer cookies. :D been eating them both my whole life!

    We have Toffifay here in Canada as well except it is packaged in a box similar to a box of chocolates. It's a whole hazelnut surrounded by caramel, chocolate hazelnut filling and a drop of chocolate on top. They are VERY good!

    All the people avoiding the rain is so funny to me! Here in Washington state we don’t mind it, even if we are without a rain jacket or umbrella.

    We have a town here in Michigan what German roots called Frankenmuth. While you were walking around the pavilion it reminded me of the town. In fact I am going there this weekend. It has a store called Bronners that is nothing but Christmas that is ginormus. And it is only closed 4 days a year.

    My family’s favorite country...we visit every time we go to WDW. The Biergarten is our favorite- we like eating here around Christmas bc the food and show are awesome! Try it again in December. Love your vlogs! I watch every time I’m homesick for WDW.

    - It's more like the Bavarian pavillion to be honest.
    - When I lived in the US (I'm from Germany) I heard about the "pickle on the christmas tree tradition" for the first time.
    - Nobody says "Bierstein", it's "Bierkrug".
    Still funny to watch. The outside is pretty cool.

    The "stuff" in the salad section is most likely liverwurst. My in-laws are German (my parents-in-law came over in the 60's to work in the U.S.), and that's a pretty typical type of cold salad/appetizer spread. My sister-in-laws _love_ liverwurst. I find it icky. :) i actually really enjoy the Biergarten- nice break from the heat and all the walking and really quite good for a buffet and nice selection of traditional foods. And of course the beer is really awesome! I've tried to buy lederhosen and dirndls (the traditional female dress) for my kids and they're crazy-expensive, even in Germany. Most of the pieces are handmade and time consuming to work, and the dirndl usually has extensive embroidery on it. Thank you for the tour, Tim!
