To be fair, I’m too young to have watched Sanders play live, but this guy is the best corner I’ve ever seen do it. In his hayday, he could take any receiver out of the game. The Shermanator put himself in position to make a play on the ball every single play... He passed the eye test better than anybody, and had the stats to back it up, allowing the lowest passer rating while targeting him of any corner between the years of 2012 and 2015, by like 15-20 points. Even guys like Jalen Ramsey and Josh Norman, arguably the best corners since Sherman’s prime, pale in comparison to what he could do! When you think about the all-time great corners (Mel Blount, Dick Lane, Deion Sanders, or Darrell Green) they all played in an era when QB’s could throw 25 interceptions each year, and make Pro Bowls. To put things into perspective, Sherman managed to pick off Tom Brady twice in one game in 2012, when Brady only threw 6 other interceptions all year! Sherman’s greatness goes even beyond his play, which, just to reiterate, was the best of his generation. Sherman was the moral leader of the loud, personality-driven Legion of Boom that finished first in total defense three years in a row. He would completely take away the left half of the field, forcing QB’s to either test Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas’ coverage, or try to run against a front seven that at one point contained 4 different Pro Bowlers. A unique player whom it was a true pleasure to watch.
