  • This video will work though what you need to know when showing a model in horse halter for both Breed and Collectability classes. I am working thought "showing 101" for model horse shows in this series.
    I have set up some models and walk through how to prepare, set up and show.

      Have a great time! Live shows are so much fun meeting people that share our love of model horses.

    Thank you so much for this video. I am going to my first show in December and I am really nervous preparing since I will be going alone and not really knowing what I'm doing! Thankfully it's minis only so should be easier to at least move my models!

    I have only recently joined this hobby and I am interested in showing, so thank you for making this very educational video about the subject!
    I have to wonder tho; would you consider speaking about negative aspects with the show community in a video sometime? If you are a judge and you show models, I'd love to hear about what sort of behavior you have encountered over the years that is simply negative. Anything from an entitled person arguing with a judge to people trying to cheat (tho I have a hard time thinking of what cheating would even look like tbh).
    I think it would be useful to know what to expect in shows and to learn how common it is or how crafty cheaters might get and what to look out for. If there even is such a thing in the community, which I suppose is a high possibility for all sorts of competitions.

      That is an interesting question. Generally not much negative goes on at the shows. Most of it goes on after when people are not happy with their results so they trash the judge. However we need more judges, with their opinions to make showing varied. If everyone loves the same molds it would not make for interesting shows. The one problem I see on occasion is at Breyerfest when there are 15 of the exact same model in a class and someone with the same model as the one that won demands to know why theirs didnt even place.

      @@lisasmodelhorsediy That's good to hear! I was worried as soon as competitions get involved people would get a little ugly at times.
      I suppose the issue of demanding answers for not placing is normal at this point (maybe it's just ignorance or entitlement at play). But I wonder if misbehaving can actually get you in trouble other than maybe being kicked out of the venue? Like being banned for a while from showing or such?
      If I had more experience in what a judge needs to be and if I had the money to travel around, I'd definitely want to be a judge at some point. I find it very interesting to look at creations and see what models, even if the same production, have details that make them more appealing. Even just the info cards alone would be interesting to look at from different people. I have seen a few very nice looking ones while browsing forums. People put alot of effort even in the simplest things, I love that.

    Great video! I'm getting back into showing and this is very helpful. What is your opinion on asking judges questions? I don't want to be obnoxious but I'm not 100% sure on certain things. I can't wait for a performance show video ❤

      Thanks so much. As a judge I have no issues having someone ask me questions. This is not allowed in some shows such as Breyerfest or NAN however I think it is important to ask questions to learn for the next show. Just limit your questions and dont be in the judges way when they are judging. Ask the show host what they prefer. There will be lots of performance showing videos coming in the future. I intend it to be an ongoing series.

      I love the Netherlands! I am currently living in South America. There are no shows or Breyer people here so I am hoping to make it to Breyerfest at some point again.

    What "class" would the model horse brands Mojo, Schleich, and Papo fall under?

    • @lisasmodelhorsediy
      @lisasmodelhorsediy  Před 6 měsíci

      That depends on the show and the judge. You often have to ask the judge that question. Some shows have specific classes for them, others do not.
