Physical Media is not going away. It's just that optical and MO discs have been replaced by HDDs and SSDs because they are slow, cumbersome to handle and offer a minuscule storage capacity.
Streaming Service just means that you outsource your library to a provider.
Digitalisation helped making everything easier. Copying a file is a breeze compared to copying a VHS tape. No need for expensive and complicated cabling as everything can be transferred serialised with error correction.
