    The final scene when Silco mention he would have never given Jinx to Piltover is genuine. Silco was shown as a man who would do anything to achieve his goals, which is why he had a fallout with Vander, as Vander wasn't able to sacrifice the people he cared about for the cause. Now that Silco is put in the same position where he has to sacrifice Jinx, he visits Vander's statue one last time and tells him, "It all makes sense now brother. Is there anything more undoing than a daughter?" While the last sentence seems like he's saying Jinx is the problem, Silco is referring to both his and Vander's relationship to Powder, who was their adopted daughter. Silco couldn't sacrifice Jinx for the sake of Zaun.

    • @gregorygreenwood-nimmo4954
      @gregorygreenwood-nimmo4954 Pƙed 2 lety +100

      Exactly - the whole scene where Silco sits at Vander's statue and talks to his dead former friend, saying 'is there anything so undoing as a daughter?' is about Silco coming to understand Vander; why Vander betrayed Silco himself and why he couldn't give up Vi. At last Silco truly understands what motivated Vander and finds himself making the same decisions for the same reasons. There are other clues as well. The scene where Jinx is badly wounded after fighting Ekko shows us the sheer level of horror and fear that Silco experiences when he thinks Jinx might be dying. Jinx is unconscious at the time, so if this is an act, who is he playing to? His subordinates who pretty much despise and fear her anyway? An unconscious Jinx who can't even hear him? And when he brings her to Singed to try to save her life, again his concern for her is obvious and she is in no position to see it, so who is he putting the act on for there? Singed? Why would he even bother? When he awakes from his sedation by Singed (who sedates him because he believes that Silco couldn't stand to see Jinx in pain, a sentiment Singed expresses because he says he also is a father) and finds Jinx gone, his reaction to suspecting that Singed may have harmed her is immediately violent (even though Jinx isn't even in the room), just the sort of thing an angry and frightened father might do when he is out of his mind with worry for his daughter.
      Time and again from episode four onward it is made clear that Jinx is widely viewed by Silco's subordinates and peers as a liability he should get rid off, and never once does he entertain the notion for an instant, typically responding to the suggestion with disdain if not cold, menacing anger. When Jinx goes off on a rampage in Piltover and kills several Enforcers and blows up a building, hugely complicating Silco's life, his response is not threats or violence as he would treat any of his lackies - instead he acts like a worried and disappointed father, mostly concerned because she put herself in danger.
      The meeting between Silco and Jayce is also illuminating. When Jayce says the price for everything Silco has ever wanted - for the independent, sovereign nation of Zaun he has literally spent decades of his life fighting for - is to give up Jinx for her crimes, Silco's immediate response is that they aren't her crimes, meaning that as the crime boss of the Undercity they are his crimes; his first impulse is to protect her, figuratively falling on his sword to do so if necessary. When Jayce won't be moved on the demand that Silco give up Jinx, the next scene we see Silco in is Silco at Vander's statute where he expresses an understanding of why Vander acted as he did, making it clear that the moment Jayce demanded Jinx as the price for peace and an independent Zaun the deal was off in Silco's eyes. Silco abandons his life's work in a heartbeat to protect his adopted daughter. A major part of Silco's character arc is his realisation that what he thought he wanted in life - power, wealth, the respect of peers, social standing, an independent Zaun with him in a leadership role - doesn't actually matter to him anywhere near as much as his adopted daughter does. Like Vander before him, his dreams pale in comparison to his desire for fatherhood he never even released he had before Jinx came into his life.
      Far from one last ditch attempt at a posthumous manipulation of Jinx, I think the point is that Silco's final words were entirely in earnest. He knows he is dying, and his only thought is to try to comfort his daughter, to mitigate the horror she must feel to have killed him. He has already abandoned all his other plans and dreams - she is literally the only thing that matters to him anymore. Silco is very much a villain, He is not a moral man by any stretch of the imagination, but he is also not irredeemably evil either. His grand redeeming attribute is his genuine love and concern for his adopted daughter. That is the one thing in his life that is absolutely pure. He may have started out with the intent to manipulate Powder/Jinx for cynical personal advantage when he first found her after Vander's death, but to use a D&D metaphor, I think he very swiftly failed his wisdom saving throw against desire for parenthood. By the end, Silco is a transformed man. Of course, that transformation won't prevent Jinx reacting to the further trauma of his death by going even further off the deep end, but that wasn't his intention.

    I think Silco was sincere at the end. In his parlay with Jayse, one of the demands was that he stop the production of Shimmer. Shimmer, the drug that has given him a death grip on Zaun and he waves it away in the name of independence. And the gemstone, which he knows is the key to hextech, the main advantage Piltover has over Zaun especially with Shimmer gone. He gives that up with just a nod.
    But with Jinx, he puts up a fight, and refuses to give her up, even trying to give himself up in her place. She wasn't there. He had no one to be performing to. No one to be lying to. The care he shows for her there is genuine.

    I think you missed the mark on silco if you still have doubts about his feelings. Sure, he was manipulative, a villain etc, but he genuinely loved jinx : he saw himself in her when vi abandonned her. But the most revealing point is him going to vander's satue finally realising why he stopped fighting as hard for zaun : because he had familly to protect. And he realizes the irony : he is now even more guilty than vander of what he accused him of. He has literally gained everything he wanted, but a weakness he created for himself prevents him from achieving his goal. His love for jinx as his daughter. As twisted as that relationship was, he did love her. And i fully belive him when he says, knowing he is on his last breath that he would not have given her up.

    I'm fairly confident that Silco was being honest at the end to jinx. The whole speech at the fountain earlier was about how he could obtain everything he ever wanted, if he could just give up jinx. But he finally understood why vander, who he couldn't understand in act 1, was willing to make peace and unwilling to fight for the cause. "Is there anything so undoing as a daughter" meaning that both of them had their dreams of Zaun undone by having a daughter who they cared more about then that dream.
    Also, from the perspectives and lighting at the end, I'm pretty sure jinx did actually blow up the council, which is even more tragic because just like in the end of act 1, she tries her best but ruins everything.
    Silco almost achieved his goal, (the council didn't appear to care about jinx it was just Jayce)

You can also see during the final scene Vi kept telling Jinx to remember her dead family but to Jinx it was just tramutazation of the dead haunting her. Silco flips out and tell Jinx not to listen to Vi because he knew she couldn't handle it.
    This was my interpretation at least that Silco did truly care for Jinx. Remember that speech about loyalty. He holds true to it even after getting betrayed by Vander.

      Animated adaptations have been going from strength to strength recently. I really hope they can come to be viewed as a powerful and respectable means for translating fantasy and sci-fi to the visual medium. The stylization and dynamism, and frankly the unique visual code inherent to animation, all allow for scenes and stories that are otherwise simply unfilmable with real actors, no matter how much CGI you throw at the problem.
