    A great tour that showed Vingegaard's continued evolution as a cyclist and excelling in every domain. From two years ago when he dropped Pog on Ventoux we knew he had it in him and he's certainly delivered this year. For me the main thing is that Jonas and Jumbo had a very selective build-up to Tour, while Pog had a busy Classics campaign, and then of course a month off to recover from a wrist fracture. That plus losing time early on meant he was probably expending more energy trying to gain back time each day. I love that Pog is a bike racer to his core, but I wonder if him and his team will change his build-up to the Tour for future years.

    Vingegaard said around a week ago to the Danish media, that this stage and perhaps also to a lesser extend stage 16 would be decisive of who was going to win the tour. It would seem that he was right. According to a Danish TV expert/former tour rider who was out there himself to get a "feel" of stage 16. he got passed several times by Jonas, who was out there doing the most difficult parts more than once, to be even more prepared.
    Pogacar on the other hand spend most of that day resting, and he has done no other time-trials this year, to prepare for this, unlike Jonas. Jonas has simply been more focused, better prepared and taking advantage of his lower weight and having refined his technique, leaving Pog's brute force behind.

    What happened was that TP overspent himself on the TT the day prior. Also TPs weaknesses is to keep up the strength in the long run where that is JVs opposite. Last year we saw the same happen. TP is a great rider but this year he lacked training, especially altitude training. He broke his wrist and while recovering he could not prepare himself as he otherwise would have. I beleive the biggest reason for TPs collapse was lack of training most of any of the other factors mentioned above.

    It was evident after the stage on sunday that TP couldn't drop JV anymore. JV saved his power and crossed the line beside him. Just to let him know he was much stronger, but waiting to unleash it all in week 3. And boy do he just do that ! The TT showed TP the power of JV and he knew he was in big trouble for the extreme mountain stage the next day. The first 2 weeks JV used just enough energy to keep the yellow jersey, he knew the showdown was to come in week 3. A true champion, controlling the race. Chapeau Jonas Vingegaard !!!

  • @brunoaramburu740
    @brunoaramburu740 Před 10 měsíci +24

    In line with the title of the video, today marked the culmination of a perfectly executed plan from TJV to crack Pogacar. It started 2 weeks ago, when Jonas effortlessly opened a 50" gap with Tadej. Until last Saturday, he let Tadej use every chance he had to attack, and they let him shorten the gap slowly, basically consuming much more energy that it would have taken in a single stage, recall Puy de Dome for instance. I think TJV had perfectly calculated that Jonas would never lose the maillot jaune. Last Saturday, Jonas recovered in the easiest possible way 1" without wasting much energy, and on Sunday he showed how well his legs were, but anyway still decided to hold back and go all in after the last rest day in optimal conditions. These last 2 weeks, Tadej instead was made to believe he was chasing actually a real chance to claim the maillot jaune, and in the decisive stage, he didn't have anything left in his legs after two weeks full of attacks, one after the other. All UAE bought the TJV bluff from the very beginning.

    Seems to me like complete exhaustion from what has already been an intense TdF. This stage was just too brutal after racing hard almost every day. I'd wager a combination of worse preparation and increased stress. His face is seems like he's had the worse night of sleep of his life and that inattentive fall at the start also just screams tiredness. And he and UAE probably new this before the stage even started, so they would've planned around it.
    Guess we shouldn't forget that he's only human and how hard it is to ride a Grand Tour, especially at this level. Very few riders can have Tour-winning performances over multiple years. He's also not making it easier on himself by going for the spring classics at the same time.

    Thx LR! Clearly a pristine Tour prep for Jonas, and what a day for Gall! Pog is still the baller - he wins Fleche, Amstel, the Ronde, top 5 at Sanremo, broken wrist...hard to compete w/Jonas's trajectory after that much action. He'll be back!

    Great ride by Zimmermann as well! Holding that High Grade Group so close to the finish. Amazing

    Great content. I just feel that JV was "cracking" Pogi for 2 weeks. They made the race super hard knowing POGI is 2 impetuous and will go for all the bonus seconds. Burning up himself while JV knew he did not have the depth of fitness to deal with the 3rd week.

    Human after all...TBH he's been looking "sick" for several days, even on Joux Plane he looked ghostly. After being crushed yesterday everything just unraveled. A spectacular collapse that's seldom seen in GTs (apart from Yates at the 2018 Giro of course).

    At the bottom of the last climb Pog looked like he was suffering, you could see it in his eyes during the stage.

    Accumulated fatigue is what finally broke Pogacar. Jumbo Visma have been upfront about the overall strategy for the TdF: Make the race as hard as possible in order to break Pogacar. Pogarcar may be the best allround rider, but he doesn't have the durability or stamina of Vingegaard who seems to get better the further into a Grand Tour he gets.

      They didn't force Pogacar to plant Vingegaard on 3 separate stages though. When Pogacar made all these attacks, he made also the race much harder.

    Did Pogi sleep after the TT, it must have been a hard punch on Pogis self-confidence, thoughts must have been running through his head. No sleep and King Stage in the tour day after is not a good cocktail.
