'Past Lives' | Scene at The Academy
#movies #filmmaking #filmmakers #PastLives #A24 - Zábava
The kind of movie that makes you yearn of the past. Not necessarily of a person that you once loved, but of better times when everything was innocent and pure.
I think the opposite: This movie makes you say goodbye to all the imaginary futures you once had as a child and all the things that did not happened. To welcome the present and be more present. Is not a yearning of the past, but a farewell to it.
Easily one of the most beautiful and powerful romance movies of all time. Seeing a movie encapsulate soul mate love from so many raw angles was breathtaking.
I broke down after the end...it shows that your past definition of yourself needs the farewell it deserves..the current you owes it to your old self...no matter if you are currently happy or not doesnt matter
Past life was very beautiful movie but im sad it didnt got more nominations. Like it deserves best actor and actress and score.
The acting was so beautiful
@@TommyWadeLDefinitely better than those of maestro, rustin and nyad
it definitely deserves score and especially cinematography but a massive W that it got screenplay and picture.
@@ponchopi i forgot about the cinematography. Thanks for reminding
@@TommyWadeL I indeed love exactly the scene when the two met up in Central Park, NY. :-)
It feels like this movie is too precious for the Oscars! I’ve been reading the reviews and it looks like this masterpiece has become an instant classic for millions of people and deservedly so! Oscars can go and do Oscary things but this movie will take life of its own with or without it! Absolutely beautiful!
Best movie of the year…. Way underrated by the academy
This film does not really have very complicated plot lines. The story keeps on asking the question "What if", and exploration of life and cultural changes. But the simplicity of it, and the way they told this film made it so beautiful and emotional. The execution, from the expression of the eyes of the characters, to the composition of each scenes, the cinematography, the subtleness of music, the silent but meaningful dialogues. Past Lives is definitely one of the well crafted cinematic story telling arts in this modern time.
"Heesong is able to love Nora without needing her" is the best line to define and condense the ending of d film wth. Never had the words to describe it til these lines.
2:42 love the details here, he was shocked and almost unwilling to have a hug after so many years of separation and also because of the fact that he grew up in Korea which is a considerably more conservative country which is not used to physical contact and intimacy like this, but then deep down he just wanted this connection so much and it felt so inherent.
I’ve never openly sobbed so hard in a theater. I hear it did the same for many of my friends. To me, this movie highlights all the choices we could’ve made; the people we could’ve been, the loved ones we left behind - but not being able to hold them all at once. There is a slight regret that pervades, a sadness. Deeper than that, though, is the loss that comes with being from a poorer country. The loss of family, connection, and rootedness from having to leave our motherland behind for opportunity. There are layers of grief in this movie, and they all hit me at once at the ending. Incredible, incredible story. So grateful it was made, though hard to watch.
Beautiful synopsis and interpretation. I don’t know if I can watch the movie- that clip alone made me cry about 10 times. So moving ❤
Please watch indian movie 96. And past lives copy or inspired by 96
💯
Man this movie was so fucking snubbed, who the hell was asking for Maestro nominations, I mean seriously, I've not seen anyone praise that movie half as much as this one. I hate to be that cynical but this was a gorgeous film, and so unique, and Maestro honestly felt so exploitative of the people portrayed in it.
That's what I said, I don't care how long Bradley Cooper trained for conducting scene, past lives simply better
A prime example of the Hollywood machine vs. an independent project. This movie will last and resonate for years; Maestro will be on no one’s “must watch” list in a few months. And I consider myself a fan of Bradley Cooper’s and Carey Mulligan’s.
I agree with you!!! Maestro is just ANOTHER typical bio pic that we didn’t ask for. Past lives have heart and soul in it!!! This movie was very much snubbed
This movie takes you on a ride not to be forgotten. Longing for love is expressed beautifully in this movie.
Beautiful film. Love how quiet and intimate it was in some scenes. Greta Lee should've been nominated!
instantly one of my faves of all time.
I really hope this wins best original screenplay. Easily the most beautiful movie I've ever seen
It would be like woman talking/selma over again
I hope so too but I feel like they'll give it to Anatomy.
Love for this to win Best Picture.
I doubt unfortunately. It only had best picture and original screenplay nominees. And its very hard for movie with only two nomination to win
My favorite film and the best film of 2023 IMO. Love this film so much. So beautiful storytelling and heartbroken at the same time. Well written, directed and acted. Sublime 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Its unfortunately it came the same year as oppenheimer or poor things because this movie deserves more nominations than two
@@savvastoynoysidis360 agreed with you
@@AH86ac I love Nolan and lanthimos but celine song made a masterpiece in the first try like orson wells for citizen kane
I hate this movie. I've spent so many years repressing all those adolescent and young adult feelings of love and crushes and longing that didn't work out. And then this movie brings it all back up all over again. Well, I don't actually hate this movie. I'm just confused about what to do with all these resurrected feelings and memories. I need a Hae-Sung moment where I can come to peace with it and contentedly leave it all behind. When a movie can make you feel so much, it's certainly a great movie.
An all timer. NO QUESTION.
I've seen this movie 37 times in Groningen (the last time with 145 others, it's last screening), but each time I saw something new, something different. Made me think: is it maybe that what's happening, or will happen. It's easily the most important American movie since Moonlight! The directing, the story, cinematography, editing, the music score as well the chosen songs, the acting of course (also by the young Korean children), it all is beautiful. I guess the Korean money has made the difference in tone; crucial in my opinion. If Hollywood wasn't all about the money, THIS would be the winner.
Well, and if I was Arthur, Nora's "I don't think so" wouldn't comfort me either. What a realy good player John Magaro is, and Teo Yoo also. Greta Lee is now 1 of America's best actresses, I think, and definitely 1 of the funniest.
thats some serious dedication
You nailed it, i was also thinking of Moonlight watching this movie.
This movie looks beautiful sounds very beautiful but seems so heartbreaking and sad. I have to be In my bed with popcorn and tissues for this movie.
They missed much more nominations. Set in Canada, New York and South Korea
One of the best movies I’ve ever seen.
The most beautiful movie ever. So thankful for this film ❤
Thanks for meaningful and valuable video ❤❤❤
The Casablanca of Our Times! ❤

IMHO movie of the year!
35mm 촬영한 부분도 기대됩니다.

Come on give us that screenplay win plz
Fantastic!
5:28 카메라에 태극기와 하트 붙어 있는거 감동이네요 ❤
It was brilliant!
I really want to see this movie!
Loved the film xx
The best movie of 2023!
SRK deserves lifetime achievement oscars award for best actor.
Great movie
This movie is as good as "In The Mood For Love" by Wong Kar-Wai.
너무 기대됨
한국 개봉 ❤
favorite film ❤❤❤
Can you guys do now for the other best picture nominees
I loved it so much that I rated it 10/10 on IMDb. It was so good it made me fall in love with Nora.
Just finished this film & it’s one of the best films I’ve seen in a LONG time. I would love to see more films like this. Any suggestions would be great ❤
Best picture please 🙏
I made an edit of Past Lives on my channel focused on Hae Sung's longing for his childhood friend, to the tune of Mazzy Star's Fade Into You. I hope you enjoy it!
Beautiful
小时候的初恋能记一辈子😂😂😂

Watch 5 centimeters per second, if you looking for more pain
PAST LIVES > Poor Things
Watch it on Southwest flight lol, thought its quiet and boring, but got hook up to the end. I don't know but to me the HERO is her husband.
Such a great movie but barely recognized by the Academy (and its flashy logic)
This movie was absolutely gorgeous, Oscar's like any prize are about zeitgeist politics. This was a deeply felt masterpiece. It had a jew and Koreans in it, but it wasn't put in the foreground. No Barbie polemic about gender nothing screamingly topical. Just a wonderful movie
all of us strangers snubbed!!!
Really liked that film but past lives is superior. Im sorry. Past lives was Great but i would definitely agree if it was nominated over maestro, barbie or american fiction
Napoleon please
That movie sucked. Sorry for that
The movie was ok…thru out the movie, I was wondering if they gonna get back together even though she is married and he broke up with his current gf to visit her. There a lot of tension between both when they found each other and chat thru FaceTim and when they both finally met. The ending was a bit disappointing.
Yes canton English speaking tones make everything different haha
What are you i am serious
많은 생각을 하게하는 좋은 영화. But, 솔직히 대부분의 한국대사가 어색해서 영화에 몰입을.방해했다. 그냥 다 영어로 했으면.어땠을까?
Oscar please watch one time indian movie 96 (2018) . Past lives is copy or inspired by 96
Not real
It has a high chance of winning nothing
Its nomination is its win
Am I the only one who was so bothered by how poor her spoken Korean was? It really bothered me to focus on the film..It felt almost surreal to believe that she ever lived in S.Korea
You speak nothing wearenothungrykorean
Awkward
Not korean weird stop ot please mo way
Overrated Hollywood wmaf propaganda
Its independent production by A24. Not propaganda you ---hole
"Three of us" is way more better then this!!(acting, emotional, concept way more better)
Honestly, this was a very boring movie. Surprised it got a nomination.
It's not. It's beautiful!
Poor take. Maestro was the worst of the nom and its not even close
@@emmanuelowolabi12 how is it beautiful? It is about two people with crushes on each other as kids. But moved away and didn't keep the relationship forward. That happens to everyone basically.

Why was it so important to go to China and learning Mandarin? There are 1000 good reasons to go to New York and learn English.
@@squirrely8418 ehmm past lives is about two persons from Korea. Not china
Not at all original. A copied idea of numerous asian films. Boring dialogue, overly artsy, filmed with the goal of getting an award.
