Why are people taking what Joji said as him being ashamed? He just didn't want to talk about it, he doesn't owe every interviewer his entire backstory. Like Joji openly talks about filthyfrank and pink guy on his first Hot Ones episode and was fine. He most likely just didn't want the conversation to lead to the Harlem Shake like it always seems to with these interviews.

It’s sad when I go on videos about 88rising and most of the comments are about joji and his past that he obviously doesn’t want to bring up.Brian and August usually talk the most and add to the video, but never get any attention.
They might get more time on purpose to be honest. Filthy Frank will exist until the end of the internet. Pink guy music is lit too, though maybe not for everyone. And it's okay. He left that behind but there's no way to hide it.

He's trying to play it off like he just made "short videos on youtube and other platforms" but in reality those "short youtube videos" are what made him what he is today. 49:30 although this is played for jokes I think this might be Jojis mindset when it comes to his music career and might be why his sound has changed so much since he officially started said career. He already said that his end goal in life was to get rich enough to create a hospital and save lives. Before hand i just thought that would be one of the things that greatly drives to make his music while also just making things that he personally just wants to make. Now I’m starting to suspect that the sound he’s trying to capture is done in an effort to appeal to most people ears and less so to do with whether or not he likes it. I’m not trying to say that hates the stuff he’s making now, just that his main priority might be to gain a bigger audience as opposed to making music for musics sake. I don’t think there’s nothing wrong with that either.

i really don’t think joji is necessarily ashamed of his past, it’s probably just extremely annoying and disheartening for it to be brought up every single time he’s interviewed. Yes it’s part of his past, yes he can’t “hide” it, but that doesn’t mean it’s the focal point of him and his career. He probably wants people to be interested in him as a person and not the characters he made, and when it’s all anyone ever wants to talk about it gets pretty annoying. FilthyFrank is over and done with, and while it’s nice to appreciate and reminisce, we shouldn’t be hounding him over it (especially if he doesn’t want to speak on it)
There was an interview where he said that he wanted both of his fanbases to coexist and he believed it was going well. Which was before the cancel joji thing was a thing on twitter that clearly showed that his newer fans weren't aware of his old persona. People in general bringing up Frank is just really cringey and people hold him onto this pedestal and when he broke character george as himself talked to Frank in the skit like he was a degenerate which was the point of the character. People have taken that character though and made it a personality that is good to have, sure he had videos of him fucking around with his friends and having genuine fun but to the roots of Frank like yeah dude I'm sure where he is now he might feel embarrassed of it all but for the same reason you pointed out.
