    In Part I , we wil be discussing , Concep, Importance and working of LBB/BFR relay.
    In Part II, which will be coming later, we be discussing actual Scheme of LBB which is being used in a Substation and also the settings of the LBB Relay. We will post the link to the video here.

    Also, my doubt in this video is what happens during the reclosing? This time 200 ms includes the reclosing time also?what if the multi shot reclosing is taking place and breaker gets stuck?

    You have mentioned three conditions to be satisfied for LBB initiation such as:
    1. 86 relay to be picked
    2. LBB timer timed up and
    3. presence of current..
    Note that all the above three conditions are not ANDed for LBB initiation.
    For LBB initiation, the relay will check mainly two things:
    1. 86 picked or not, LBB Timer's 200ms is over and CB open status not obtained from all 3 poles, current still persists any of the poles. (Here, any of CB poles actually has not opened)
    2. 86 picked or not, LBB timer's 200 ms is over and CB open status obtained from all 3 poles, but current still persists in any of the CT secondary. (Here, Aux contacts changed to open CB position, even though any of the CB pole actually has not opened)
    If any of the above two conditions are true, the relay will close an NO contact which you can wire to trip the source CBs to stop the possible feeding to fault.
    Make sure that the LBB timer is fed from an NO contact of a relay that supports the LBB function, so that whenever a trip is initiated by the relay, it starts the LBB timer and gives the pulse to energize the 86, simultaneously. This way, a non functioning 86 relay coil will result in the LBB initiation too.
    LBB Stage 1 initiation and stage 2 initiation:
    Stage 1: It initiates trip to the same CB it monitors for failure as a stage 1 action.
    Stage 2: It initiates trip to the upstream CB/CBs for failure of stage 1 action.

      Advantages:
      1. In case fault occurs in any bus, only fault associated Circuit Breakers get tripped & other Circuit Breakers are not interrupted & hence no interruption to the feeders.
      2. If any one of the Circuit breaker is out of service in one dia/bay, u can isolate it & make service/overhauling respective breker without interruption
      Disadvantages:
      1. Complexity in metering & protection

    Very good explanation sir.
    Why two master relays 86A and 86B are used normally in substation???

    • @ELECTRICALFUNDAZ
      @ELECTRICALFUNDAZ  Před 5 lety +1

      Protection Relays are grouped into Main and Backup Protections. Those Relays Grouped under Main Protection, operate 86A and those under Backup Protection Operate 86B. This done to provide redundancy. Also , 86A is given DC Source A and 86B is given DC Source B.

    • @chhaiyanathu
      @chhaiyanathu Před 5 lety +1

      @@ELECTRICALFUNDAZ It means there are only two gateways through which concerned breaker can be instructed to open remotely. So no matter from where ever the trip commond is coming, it has to pass through either 86A or 86B. If trip commond is from main protection it will pass through 86A and if it is actuated by back-up protection it will pass through 86B.
      Am i right??? Please give your thoughts.

    • @ELECTRICALFUNDAZ
      @ELECTRICALFUNDAZ  Před 5 lety

      @@chhaiyanathu Yes absolutely, right. Breaker will operate, only when 86 Operates. Also, one of the reasons for LBB operation, is that the Failure of the 86 Relay to issue Trip command to the Breaker.

    • @chhaiyanathu
      @chhaiyanathu Před 5 lety

      @@ELECTRICALFUNDAZ When LBB initiates BB protection then through which relay(86A or 86B) trip commond to all concerned CBs will be extended???

    • @ELECTRICALFUNDAZ
      @ELECTRICALFUNDAZ  Před 5 lety +1

      No No No. If the 86 Relay is operated and the Breaker does not Trip for 200 ms and the Fult current as sensed by LBB Relay is more than 0.8A, LBB Relay sends a command to Busbar Relay and the Busbar Relay Trips all the Feeders on the Concerned Bus. LBB Relay is a smart fellow, he uses the Circuit of Busbar Relay.
