Thunderbirds 2004 - Launch Sequences

  • As requested... In one huge compilation, all the launch sequences from the 2004 Thunderbirds movie! The fact that it's only 5 minutes long should tell you everything that's wrong with the movie - and that's including my channel thingy at the beginning, which is probably the highlight... Anyway, you can see I've made my mind up - what do you think? Do you like the sequences? Did you like the film? Let me know in the comments below!
    Sorry some of the launches are broken up - I edited out some plot points so as not to take away from the sequences. Disclaimer: As you may well have guessed, I do not own any of the footage or audio in this video nor anything to do with any series or version of Thunderbirds. How ever much I wish I did.

    Bill Paxton, Sir Ben Kingsley, they did the best with the crap they were given. It's really sad though, this could have really been something.
    As other people put it, they were trying to recreate a spy kids kind of movie. But it's Thunderbirds, it should have been about 5 brothers in their late 20s and mid 30s saving the world. And they should have been portrayed as the right stuff, like the Mercury astronauts they're named after. All we got was a misdirected mess and cringefest.

      Totally agree, as a kid of the sixties who has loved the show ever since (plus my kids loved it in the 00’s), I couldn’t bear to see it, having read the odd review and watching the trailer. A brilliant IP totally wasted on the short lived ‘spy kid’ genre, which was popular at the time.

    What makes this movie is the scale of the Thunderbirds themselves, I mean, seeing Thunderbird 1, 2 and 3 take off in live action is pretty damn cool. Also Zimmer's score, not only the remix's of the main theme, but also the themes he created for the kids and The Hood. Even if the movie is held back by its lackluster story and characters. Also, making a Thunderbirds movie where Scott, Virgil, Gordon and John are barely in it and are basically cameos is like making an Avengers movie where Cap, Thor, and Iron Man are mere cameos.

    I actually liked this movie- I got it on clearance a few months back at Saturday Matinee. And from what I've read, you can't blame the cast members (who all delivered good performances and had a good time- Ben Kingsley and Anthony Edwards chose this movie because it was light-hearted and fun- for serious actors like them, they needed something like this as a break) or Jonathan Frakes for what a mess this became. It originally started out at PolyGram Films (they owned ITC for a time in the 90s) and originally planned it as an all-CGI flick, then planned to have the Baldwin brothers as the Tracys and Sean Connery as Jeff. Then the project "fell through the cracks" when Seagram's (yes, the liquor company) merged what remained of PolyGram with Universal. By the time Universal got the project started again, they'd gone through a crap-ton of scripts, Gerry Anderson had left his consulting position on the project, and somebody decided to rework it to be more like Spy Kids. And that's the whole sordid tale.

    Never cared much for Fermat tbh. Sure, he's not too bad in some scenes. Like for example, when Alan, Tin-Tin and Fermat are trying to escape from Mullion and his men with a hoversled. Alan was a bit harsh to Fermat and making fun of his stutter when Fermat's trying to make him see sense. And the shot of Fermat's hand appearing as a marionette during the Thunderbird 1 launch sequence was a nice nod to the TV series. But I still wish Brains had as much screen time as Fermat.
    R.I.P. Bill Paxton

    • @ryanodonovan9497
      @ryanodonovan9497 Před 3 lety

      I honestly think Fermat was a worthless and redundant character that never should've been written in regardless, yet not only is he in there, but gets more screen time and focus than his father who was already well established. A complete waste. Brains never needed to have a child in this film. I think Grandma Tracy (the absent, unmentioned Tracy family member in this film) would've been better.
      As for Alan, I find him nothing but an unlikeable, self-entitled whiner in this film who never even learns from it. Sure, there were a couple of times in the original series he was jealous of his brothers having more to do than him, but not to the point of being insufferable! Nowhere near.
      And with these two and Tin-Tin (who didn't need more focus in the story when she was a minor character in the original series) not only being the main characters, but also spending a large amount of the story running around Tracy Island from the villains whilst spending the most time on the equipment, I need to ask - what the fuck does any of this have to do with Thunderbirds?! Let me put it simply - when I see a film done on Thunderbirds, I want to see dramatic and exciting rescues pulled off by ALL the Tracys, Brains, Lady Penelope and Parker working as a team. I do not want to see an unlikeable version of one of the siblings, a pointless son of an already well-enough established character for use and a minor character turned into a cheesy teenage girl, tediously evading villains (who also didn't need to exist when The Hood could've done all his own work like in the original show) on their own home island. If I wanted to see a film like that, I'd watch either Spy Kids or Home Alone. And it doesn't help that Scott, Virgil and Gordon look fuck-all like their puppet counterparts.

    I would love another live action Thunderbirds film to be made. Not as a sequel to the 2004 film, but one which is more faithful to the original show. Where it’ll focus on all of the Tracy Family & Lady Penelope of course plus more Rescues and Disasters.
    Next year will be the the 60th Anniversary of Thunderbirds and I think now is the right time for the franchise to be brought back into the spotlight on the Big Screen, as long as it’s done by the right people who care deeply about the source material like me as I’m big Thunderbirds fan myself.
    Thunderbirds still has a strong following by fans everywhere especially here the UK 🇬🇧

  • @RockyRailroadProductions_B0SS

    ...Alright, this movie forgot a couple important details:
    Virgil didn't get to do anything. John, in Thunderbird 5, got more screen time.
    The Hood finding Tracy Island is just... *No.*
    The Hood pilots Thunderbird 2 more than Virgil does.
    A 9-year old boy whose name is not Joe flies Thunderbird 2 more than Virgil does.
    Brains has a son. I feel much more hopeful though, if a guy like that could have children, there is still hope in this world.
    Thunderbird 1's interior looks like a theme park ride at Disney, not a high speed VTOL rocket plane. Also, the blue interior lights weren't necessarily needed, we get it, Thunderbird 1 is the blue one.
    Same for Thunderbird 2, except the chairs in that one just look uncomfortable and again, don't look like they'd be in an airship like that.
    Thunderbird 2 overall just looks too bulky to believably fly with such tiny rocket engines, sure, neither the original or the 2015 rebooted versions would realistically fly, but at least they try to look reasonable with their wings.
    Jeff flying everything. He was essentially Captain Picard and the Tracy boys were just the stock background officers.
    Alan is in high school on the mainland somewhere. How was that set up? Why is it interesting? I'm saying this from experience, high school isn't interesting enough for a Thunderbirds movie.
    Score overall. Sorry, other than the intro, it was just "I'M GONNA PRETEND TO BE DANNY ELFMAN COVERING BARRY GRAY MUSIC XDDDDD."
    I really don't like the way they redid Firefly. Something about it really doesn't look right. Maybe it's because it is no longer a bulldozer and has an open turret for fire fighting?!

I know it would make less sense if Alan had to pilot Thunderbird 3 at the end of the movie, but it's still not how it is was in the original series (or any series for that moment). If the director can't get the basic material right, how did they accept the movie to be anything than a C at best?

      Also thunderbird 1 and 2 wouldn’t have the range to fly all the way to London also the way that thunderbird 2 is designed makes it very inefficient in flight . Also the airspace in London is very congested ( due to London Heathrow and London city approach paths ) Alan , Fermat and tin-tin should have contacted London Heathrow air traffic control during the approach into London . Also building a monorail open over deep water is a very stupid thing to do also due to the supports ships wouldn’t be able to pass through it . Overall this movie lacked a lot of logic

    The problem with this movie was that the studio execs seemed to think kids want some kind of "wish-fulfilment fantasy", rather than seeing their heroes and the equipment come to life. So we end up with a lacklustre plot where a bunch of margarine-faced Hollywood kids "with issues" save the day because the 'heroes' are stupid enough to get sidelined by a plot contrivance.
    Gerry Anderson knew kids loved the technology and watched it for the feeling that - as fantastic as the vehicles were - the way they worked had been thought out. He'd learned the hard way, with Joe 90, that putting a child hero centre-stage didn't chime with much of the viewing audience (who wants to be a 9 year-old hero when you're 10?). It's a pity the people behind this version didn't have the same understanding of their audience.

Jonathan Frakes who is married to Genie Francis (Laura in General Hospital) did a good job. Just like Battlestar Galactica in the original the arrive in 1980. The remake it's 150,000 years ago. As with any remake they are going to change a few things which if done well and they pull it off I'm open too. Everyone has different tastes, but love all the complainers with their uneducated comments. Most of you didn't grow up with the Original. Gerry & Sylvia Anderson also did Captain Scarlet, UFO, Space 1999 and a move called Journey to the Far Side of the Sun.

      Oxtail Chamberpot - I have been trying to create so videos for CZcams, but when I try to Monetize them I get suspended by AdSense if there is even 1 photo or song anywhere in the video which was not created personally by me. I've never understood how some people are able to put photos, songs, and even scenes from a movie into a video and get away with it - are you monetized?

    • @OxtailChamberpot
      @OxtailChamberpot  Před 8 lety +1

      +Dakkar Nemo Sorry for the late reply bud. Yes that sounds about right - I'm not monetised either. Unfortunately you're not allowed to make money from anything created by other people, so anything at all you don't hold the rights to will stop CZcams allowing monetisation (and monestise it for the benefit of the rights holders instead). I get away with it by heavily editing scenes so they're very different to how they first appeared, only using very short chunks of footage and music, and also acknowledging the copyrighted content and not attempting to monetise it. Even so, I've had a couple of videos taken down as they had too much of a copyrighted scene in it, so it's pretty hit and miss to be honest. Hope that helps mate, best of luck with you videos!

    Late to this party as I am, I'll throw in my tuppence-worth anyway. I saw the 2004 movie a few years back, and TBH the only reason I lasted more than 10 minutes was cos I was with mates and beer a rented DVD. All of us were (are) old enough to remember the original on the telly (SuperMarionation and all), and we all panned the movie... mercilessly. No doubt many younger folk enjoyed it, and I am not here to tell them their taste is rubbish - my hope is that they use this superficial recreation as a means to discover the original (and best) Gerry & Sylvia Anderson series.
    The movie failed on many counts, as previous commenters have mentioned. For me its biggest failing is that it treated its audience as mere consumers of an entertainment product: there's a lot of action and excitement, but not to any great purpose. Conversely, the original series - in among all the excitement and action and drama and astonishing (laboriously-made) SFX - posed all sorts of problems and dilemmas, and treated its audience as intelligent beings. In many ways, Thunderbirds was a forerunner to the original Star Trek (which I also loved watching), a series that also assumed its audience capable of and willing to watch fiction as a means of exploring morals and the human condition.
    F.A.B.

      @taxus750 Před 8 lety +4

      P.S. From a personal perspective, the worst technical cock-up of the movie was its version of T2 - it was rubbish. T2 has always been about multi-role capability and a primary part of its versatility was its ability to load and unload pods of varying technical specialities. The blokes in the production team of the 2004 movie should hang their heads in shame for what they did to T2.
