It's striking to me that in 1997, he stated that he doesn't believe in the future. Here we are 20 years into his future, and in many ways, I can see why. What an incredible testimony, what an incredible man.

Mr. Eckstein gives a very raw, honest & profound testimony. The most vivid of all the survivor testimonies that I've heard. I could never judge someone who went through so much horrific suffering. The Shoah created a broken man. I pray that he found peace with Almighty God. Mr. Eckstein was an amazing man. We must never forget. We must stand & be counted, here & now. 🇺🇲🙏🏻🇮🇱

I knew David Eckstein personally. (I say "knew" in the past tense -- it has been many years since I have seen/heard of/from him and have no idea if he is still alive.) David was a tortured soul. He hurt - everything inside of him hurt. He never made peace with his history. He became a Buddhist because that was the only method he found that gave him SOME relief from the pain of what he endured. I loved David, still do. If he is still alive, I would love to re-connect.

What a good man, his past his filled with horrors and I can understand him saying what he said at the end. Everyday would be a struggle for him with those memories and I can understand him saying he doesn't see a normal life for himself. It seems he knows the space he needs to deal with his experiences. I hope he continues to find the peace he needs in small steps.

Who can blame his cynicism? I related to his attitude: people refuse to change and the self-servitude has gotten greater as I write this 26 years beyond this recording). He must have been relieved to leave this plane of existence.

David was never free, he couldn't get over his ordeal, who can blame him , as a result he felt victimized until the end , truly without any mental health counseling he lost more ; a life , that could have been fulfilled with much love and joy , and his Jewishness , sadly in his case it was not to be , how very sad and tragic
