- In this video, I played every starter Ruler in Crusader Kings 3. ck3 is a big game, with a lot of characters. each ruler handles very differently in the beginning. In this video, I'll show you how I played each of the starting rulers in CR3 and see who came out on top. we're putting each ruler into tournament to see who you should play, and who to avoid. lets get into it.

The only recommended characters I have ever played was King Harold Godwinson and Haesteinn😂
Other than that 99% of the time I play custom or pre-created characters who were not recommended

I love playing as Matilda, and honestly starting out under the HRE comes with its own funky challenges. Idk how many times I've seen a peasant revolt spring up and had to deal with it myself so that they don't just wind up with half my land because my liege refuses to do anything with it. I also like the challenge of getting everyone in the Italian peninsula to leave with me when I split off because it makes creating the Empire more satisfying... either because I'm betraying my previous allies or because I don't have to wait five years to beat up the HRE for another duchy for the rest of her life.
I will say, I think playing as Arpad, Wales, or Erik the Heathen can be more fun than Matilda, but they aren't "starting" characters so I understand why they were cut from the list. Fun video! Bless you for trying them all out. I agree that one Catholic Iberian playthrough feels like enough.
She’s the best start in my opinion, just a fun character all round.
And yes there’s a lot of great starts that paradox didn’t put in their lineup that’re fun too

- is extremely OP for the area
- starts with a really good adult heir
- can go multiple ways with religion
- doesn't start with a rival that has a murder scheme immediately running that ends your run 50% of the time.
Haestien is very very very overrated.

Urraca Jimena is so underrated. She is very good in intrigue and her character is just fun.

I still remember my ck2 game where william lost his war for england and then ended up taking over france.
For me, is Robert Guiscard. With he, is very essy to became King of Sicily and a powerful ruler very fast, and the Hauteville are one of the most OP houses in History and far in CK3

I think Mögyér Confideration(Álmos Árpád) is a pretty fun start in 867. Álmos is an awesome commander. You start with a big war to conquer the Carpathian Basin, after that you have a decision to promote christian settlements, but also you can stay Táltosism(ancient hungarian religion, and one of the few religion where you and your vassals are the only believers) or you can just become orthodox(bulgarian, byzantine allies) or islam(kinda harder). Also you are in the middle of things, where every religion and culture meet, and you can conquer the little slavic lords in the balkan, or you can conquer the divided polish dukes. After that you can fight against the Karlings in the west, or Byzantines on the east, while Khazaria threatens you from the nort-east.

To me 1066 starters are kinda meh compared to 867. Iberia could have been great, but Iberia struggle is simply a pain in the butt even after patch. The UK and Nordic Kingdom starters just pale in comparison to their 867 counterparts. They are just worse versions gameplay wise. Matilda and the Fox are the best ones because they can restore the true Roman Empire and play truly long campaigns! The central Mediterranean location is simply the best. The rest are only decent for short ones.

I have to disagree about robert the fox, he has one of the best starting positions and one of the most flexibles in terms of expansion, you can go for croatia, expand into de islands of sicily and sardinia, crusade for north africa, join the holy rman or byzantine empire and goble them up fro the inside, go against the pope, etc. that definitely puts him on parr at least with matilda. You also can posibly form some cool titles besides the kinddom of sicily, like Trinacria or Naples.

I found the fact you start off old and with so many kids annoying. I liked how with Matilda u had more flexibility in that department
