In this video, I’m celebrating World String Change Day with a lighthearted and somewhat clumsy attempt at changing guitar strings using D'Addario strings. Join me as I take on the tricky challenge of replacing strings in third person view, using goggles and a camera setup. It’s a bit of a comical adventure, and you’ll see plenty of moments that show how NOT to change your strings. Along the way, I’ll also try to polish the frets and condition the fretboard, making this a humble guide to guitar maintenance. 2 weeks ago I changed my strings and cleaned up the fretboard and cleaned the body by putting the conditioner on the rag not the guitar ‼️🎸 I use Fender strings for my strat ❗👍

I’ve changed strings on guitars while they were still being played on stage mid set . Was a mission but after a few times gets easier when players break a string and want it changed while they solo or play haha makes for a laugh during the show and tour

I love how some bassists change strings regularly, then you have others like John Taylor who will never ever change them if they can help it.
I change mine every other year.
Bass strings are so expensive nowadays, when it's time to change strings, I just buy a new bass

Hysterically entertaining!!! 🤣 THANKS ANDY!! I’ve changed strings hours before playing a gig….using my eyes, of course, and NO tuning issues!! (All hard-tails and not all with locking tuners!). And no luthier’s knot.

Happy String Day everybody. I have a string (Low E) which will not release from the tailpiece on my gtr when I tried to change (for the first time in years recently 🤫). Can a string bind if left too long without changing or am I just feeble? Thanks and any wisdom gratefully received.

I can't believe you actually pulled it off
I did everything exactly as you did in this video and now every time I play my fingers turn black. Any ideas why this is happening? Is it the fretboard oil or the polished frets that are causing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Andy, I think this is me favorite Guitar Geek episode ever!
I like the NYXL 09-42 for my Stratocasters and the NYXL 10-46 for the guitars that I use for heavy sounds and for standard d. For my baritone with 28" scale length I will try the XL 14-68 and the XL 13-62 set for standard b. I made good experience with Ballistol for cleaning the fretboard and strings and also all parts of untreated wood. I change the strings if necessary, this could be after 5 months or a year. Maybe I'm crazy but I don't like the fresh sound of the strings and after using the guitar for a week, I like the sounds. This video was a nice reminder for giving the guitars a bit more love and care. Don't forget to clean the potentiometers and the selector switches.
I did an acoustic string change yesterday and it went smoothly until I went to tune the high E up to pitch. Just before it reached it the guitar thought it would be jolly good fun to fire the relevant bridge pin across the room. Found it ten minutes later, tried again, or fire two as the guitar put it. Thankfully it was third time lucky.
I recommend wearing these goggles just for protection.

I’m curious is there a way to screen record through the oculus what you could see? That would have been nuts to switch between the two perspectives 😝 I have such a problem without glasses haha this was hilarious and probably how I would look doing this too if I did. 😂 totally absurd and I love it.

I've bled enough changing metal strings with normal eyes, I am not sure if cyber-eyes would be any better.

An alternate way of doing this same challenge is to take a moderate dose of Ketamine prior to changing your strings

I have NO idea why youtubers insist on cutting their strings when they change them. I have NEVER seen this behaviour outside of youtube. Stop this nonsense... I've got my hands on my hips so you have to comply ... obviously.
I don't know why THAT's my complaint, it should probably be "Why did you feel the need to create your own, personal, 3rd person, dissensory hell?"
While I don't cut mine (cuz I'm a cheapskate and keep old ones just in case I break a new one very fast), its definitely easier to get a clean cut string through the bridge than it is to get the kinky curly wurly remains from the tuning pegs out through the bridge. If I was sponsored by a string brand, I think I'd cut them too.
