    glad to have met you on that Japan gig so many years ago. How things have changed since then haha

    I can't emphasize how awesome and valuable this video is to the photography community. You touched on so many amazing points and the fact you are coming to these types of conclusions at the age of 26 blows my mind....I had no clue what I was doing at that age. I'm currently trying to transition to a photography career after 20 years of working in the film industry so I can't think you enough for sharing your experiences and nuggets of wisdom. 🙏🤝

    Hi Samuel, thanks so much for sharing your years of photography experience with us!
    I'm a relatively new photographer and only really considered pursuing it professionally this year. I've tried a few genres of photography like wedding, events, birthday, family, lifestyle portrait, travel, and street, and so far I'm a bit more drawn to lifestyle photography and perhaps, personal branding photography.
    So I'm trying to niche down myself to lifestyle and branding photography on IG and maybe website portfolio so that I can get those kind of work, but I also want to showcase my street and travel photos. At the moment, my styles are clashing between genres and I am not sure what to do.
    I haven't posted them on IG because I want to be consist when marketing and branding myself. What do you suggest I do?

    Thanks for sharing these lessons learned. How did you manage your finances and income when you go months without landing a job? I know you have CZcams as well so when jobs don't come in, do you focus on building other income streams?

      It’s tough man. Always a battle but yes a big reason of why I created the CZcams channel is to supplement my income

    Fantastic video. How did you structure your website/portfolio before you had all the travel, and brand shoots? My issue now is second guessing my work when putting it on my website due to the category/narrative behind the work. Most of it is personal work I just loved. Any tips on how to give photos a narrative or reason, when adding it to a website?

      If your personal work is good enough then client does not care. In my portfolio I would say 50% at least is my personal work and other 50% branding. All the photos are under one portfolio. So trust yourself in this :)

      @SamuelElkinsPhoto  Před rokem

      Agreed. Personal work is even better than client work imo. Get creative, work on your eye and keep chasing down personal projects.
