nice job there mate , the customer will be wishing they'd done that years ago , will brighten the areas up so much , although can be nice in certain areas/ types of properties , i think in these type of jobs ie widow ingoes / cills , skirtings/facings etc varnished w/w is so dated , much betr painted 👍👌
That's an amazing job. Think that I would be inclined to use Zinsser BIN as an undercoat/primer (did this for a varnished tongue and groove kitchen ceiling years ago) as there is no need to sand the surface. Just make sure the surface is degreased and clean. Used a mini roller to get a flat finish. Will certainly try this method in the future.
Dulux caulk has to be the worse caulk out there for crazing its terrible. I would of used a zinsser product on the first coat as well to stop it yellowing, which it will with the stain bleeding through.
You could if you're really in a hurry or your wood has knots or stains... but B.I.N. is difficult to use and can leave lots of brush marks also it's not brilliant white... over varnish I prefer to put two oil undercoat then finish or one undercoat then satinwood.
@@PaintingandDecorating Or Bullseye? I think that's what I'd have used - haven't used oil based for a three years now. The oil based is certainly more opaque though, and flattens of a lot better than water based which more or less dries on the brush in this weather! Great vid.
First of all. I love your videos. Rarely do people impart information for free that is so incredibly useful. If I may, can I ask about the tubs you put paint brushes in. I think it’s the ones you use for glossing. Is there anything in there other than the brushes and why? Is it because you use them so often or can we all just keep gloss brushes in a container? It intrigues me. Sorry for another stupid question I’m sure. Thanks guys.
Hi can I ask your thoughts on using Dulux satinwood solvent based or water based for painting radiators as I don’t want to use Hammerite thanks for your time.
Not heard of that varnish. . But ESP Easy Surface Prep (ESP) is a wipe on/wipe off product which primes and prepares any shiny surface for painting. It completely eliminates the need for difficult and time-consuming sanding and leaves the surface ready for paint or varnish to bond to. Thanks
Coats well and flows nicely with a worn bristle brush. Quality oil based paints will always win hands down for me. The crown plus two days were the best. I would mix the liquid gloss 50/50 with non drip. Pleasure to work with. Nothing like the “DIY” paints we have nowadays. I can not get on with the acrylic paints. So, what do you think about when toshing? 👍🏻 from me! 🇬🇧
Nice job, but I think that I would have removed the window furniture only 2 screws in each, then put 1 screw on its own to position window sash, even better the window had friction hindges. Anyhow still a good job tho.
One of your slickest vids to date, loved the music combination, high aesthetic quality along with class tradesmanship as always. I'm renewing failed mastic on a grade ii listed building currently, have you done anything on that yet?
No... varnish is paint does not cause problems for other paint.. it does not bleed through. Certain types of wood can cause the paint to yellow.. thanks
Oh please! We can do without the orchestra recital! I know you mean well and please don't take offense, but music----especially classical music---is definitely an acquired taste. It's not for everyone. These days the growing trend seems to be for ASMR sounds; the nice QUIET sound of a paintbrush coating a wall, the nice QUIET sound of paint and turpentine swishing around in a bucket, etc. Are you aware that not everyone watches how-to videos just to learn a skill, many watch just to relax and get a break from stress? So please, no more Tchaikovsky. We prefer to hear nice quiet painting sounds.
Yes you can use B.I.N. as well but varnish is just a type a of paint no need for special treatment. Oil just gives a perfect finish and is the only paint that allows you to lay-off the best.
3:44 had to turn off music 🎶 shit if I wanted to listen to classical music I would put some on. But I thought I was gonna watch a bit of painting DIY. If I'm painting and decorating I listen to the radio.
Love the pairing of the music with the rhythm of the brush strokes. Beautiful music and work.
Thank you.
Nice to see someone who can cut in properly and better still a fellow natural bristle brush user!
Thank you, pure bristle all the way.
loved all the thequeniq you used for painting this window and the finish speak his self.
Thanks.
I use Owatrol oil for oil based paint to thin, helps adhesion and less brush marks, plus lots of other benefits.
Owatrol oil is superb . Can't do without it now.
wouldn't be without Owatrol ever
@@orbitalforest using owatrol oil in the finishing coat on interiors will make it yellow quicker

Yes, but if it's outside, use zinsser cover stain as it'll flex without cracking.👍
@@oscar38 One to remember. Thanks.
@@oscar38 Coverstain + Owatrol is the dream team.
Would you not need to seal with Zinsser first before undercoat?
Making it look easy
Thanks just loads of practice..

No stain and only certain paints craze on caulks also you need to let the caulk dry fully.. which can take more than 24hrs..
@@PaintingandDecorating the Geocel green and white tube caulk is far better and quicker. Very economical too.
Wouldn’t bin’s primer be best for 1st coat ?

Thanks, we keep them in water and changing the water regularly is important and topping up. Water level just to the top of the bristles.
I would definitely be priming that with BIN. Without priming it over time the brown will burn through Mark my words
What brown? Some woods may but most won't. It's going over varnish and it's a hardwood so so stains off that.
Hi there, can I ask you why did you put brush cleaner in water based undercoat?
If wanting a Matt finish or eggshell what would you recommend?
Great video... and I love the music... what is it?
Thanks, it something picked of the editing program because the video was so long, so no name.

The colour of bath suite would concern me more than varnished window frame!😅
My thoughts exactly!

Great video could you use a aluminium wood primer Or is that only new hard wood. Stay safe 🇬🇧👍🏻

do you trim your brushes at all , i mean for cutting in easier so they dont splay as much ?
No, we break them in using them in emulsion paints first.

I don't rate bullseye 123, I use crown px3 oil based similar to zinzeer coverstain or px4 waterbased won't scratch after 2 hours unlike 123.
