Here is our version of J.R.R. Tolkien's poem, "The Barrow-white's Chant". We hope you enjoy it:)

My brother composed and arranged the piece. My family sang it.
Please no bad language in the comments. We want this to be family friendly:) Thank you!
Lyrics:
Cold be hand and heart and bone,
and cold be sleep under stone:
Cold be hand and heart and bone,
and cold be sleep under stone:
never more to wake on stony bed,
never, till the Sun fails and the Moon is dead.
In the black wind the stars shall die,
and still on gold here let them lie,
till the dark lord lifts his hand
over dead sea and withered land.
Cold be hand and heart and bone,
and cold be sleep under stone:
Cold be hand and heart and bone,
and cold be sleep under stone. - Hudba
Here is our version of J.R.R. Tolkien's poem, "The Barrow-white's Chant". We hope you enjoy it:)
It is important to remember, in the books, the hobbits encountered terrible foes long before they met Strider and reunited with Gandalf... only by a stranger with a merry heart and yellow boots could they be saved!
Really loved this rendition, is Mythopoeia next? ;)
It sounds appropriately disturbing and creepy :) Very appropriate release for Halloween. Happy Halloween!
I want to play your playlist at my store most days
Be assured that we do enjoy your work very very much.
The tomb in which Frodo fell in belongs to the last prince of Cardolan, who fell in battle against the armies of Angmar. There were barrows there still before the creation of the kingdom of Arnor, and they belonged to previous chiefs of Men who stayed in Eriador during the First Age. The Numenoreans reverred the barrows and kept the traditions of burying the nobles and kings there.
Imagine the amount of hidden barrows there, chilly.
Othrongroth
Now I wait for Frodo singing for Tom's help and his song Barrow-wight "exorcism" ^^
Yeah that would be an excellent one.
YES!
Tis one of the scariest moments of the Fellowship of the Ring. Thank you, Clamavi De Profoundis.
Agreed. Tolkien knew how to write horror better than most horror writers. Just the sheer oppressive, off-setting atmosphere he knew how to create while plopping the reader into a situation where they weren't even sure of what had happened or was happening.
"In the black wind the stars shall die/and still on gold here let them lie"
Chills.
Chills. This will always be one of my favourite LOTR poems, it's one of the few incantations of the Enemy we hear, and it does not disappoint in its creepiness. LOTR's undead will always be the scariest and most compelling to me, the fact that the Barrow-wights and other wraiths are still conscious individuals but also enslaved in spirit to the Dark Lord, and obsessed with his return to dominate everything, is way more intense for villains than any mindless horde.
Even more disturbing when you think that the barrow-wights, or at least this one, was likely an enemy of the Dark Lord when alive. A noble of Arnor or one of its successor kingdoms, foes of Angmar.
@@CarandiniNot really. The wights weren't the people who were buried there as far as I know, they were sent there to haunt by Angmar, as a way of defilement of the graves, of sorts.
@@LifeToTheDyingOh? Are they like the weak Maiar spirits Melkor corrupted in the 1st age?
@@alpharius2omegaboogaloo384 Either that or corrupted elven spirits. (or, spirits of corrupted elves)
I'm overjoyed to see this particular chapter of Fellowship get some love, it was a very unique part of the book. This chapter felt like one of those sidequests that starts off mundane and unassuming, but throws you for a massive loop when you get deeper into it. You get so immersed you completely forget about the main quest. That was how I felt when I first read Fog on the Barrow-Downs; it crept up on me very unexpectedly, then when it was all over I was like "What were the hobbits doing again? Oh right, they were heading to Bree."
The Barrow-Wights were, no joke, the scariest part of Fellowship for me. Even more than the Nazgul. Great work, CDP!
Fair enough.
The Ringwraiths will always be the heart of terror for me, but the Barrow Wights get points for effort.
That is so interesting. I always had a feeling that the darkness of the Nazgul differs from the Barrow-wights' one. A part of this difference might correlate with the active hunting compared to the waiting for prey. But i think it's more than that, a different texture of deathly cold.
@@timpani7191I think it may also have to do with the Nazgul being in a terrifying space between life and death, somewhere beyond both in darkness. Whereas the wights are very dead. Long, long dead, and have stirred regardless. I'm not sure which is more worrying to be honest. As you say, they're very different.
@@warmfuzzyvoid Yeah, that is definitely a crucial point. Thanks for pointing out.
When I was first having the books read to me at age 6, I got the mistaken impression that the Nazgul and the Barrow-Wights were one and the same. Perhaps it was because my mom used the same deep, menacing voice for both when reading the story...
Wake now my merry lads! Wake and hear me calling!
Warm now be heart and limb! The cold stone is fallen;
Dark door is standing wide; dead hand is broken.
Night under Night is flown, and the Gate is open!
I am imagining these wights almost like the golden age of disney smokey/whispy animation, slowly blowing across the background menacingly as this plays, well done
In many old mythologies, you didn't need a necromancer to raise the dead. In a place of death, they could be found, restless and hateful, a twisted aspect of the natural world. The song alone captures that essence, and for that I thank you!
In most modern fantasy, that is also the case, to be fair.
@@_Woody_ In the blandest way, sure.
@@metalmadness5851
True. Not in a way that Tolkien infuses everything with aesthetic mythology. But it is a pretty common thing to find undead at places of death.
A good choice for Halloween, given it's more-or-less the main villain song for the Lord of Rings, ending with them imagining Sauron's victory and the world devastated. Good choice of images as well.
I think in lore they refer more to Morgoth as the dark lord in that chant, since only thing witch king did with them was give them a place to haunt and if Sauron could create them he would’ve made an army of that. And Morgoth literally created dragons so I wouldn’t pass undead pass him
The barrow wight scene for me was one of the deepliest, creepiest moments of the trilogy. Thank you.
'Fair was she who long ago wore this on her shoulder...'
I forgot this poem even existed. But I‘m happy to hear another of your beautiful songs.
I always remembered the movie version of it from Gollum, I entirely forgot that it came from the Barrow-Wights.
"Cold be heart and hand and bone,
Cold be travelers far from home!
They cannot see what lies ahead
When sun has failed and moon is dead!"
I'll certainly remember the source now!
Barrow-wights are very underrated, absolutely terrifying. Your composition of their chant is absolutely phenomenal 👏 Happy Halloween 💀
I've always wondered if the poem is about Morgoth, not Sauron?
"Till the Sun fails and the Moon is dead"
Perhaps a reference to Dagor Dagorath?
It is certainly about Morgoth.
The barrow wight is cursing the hobbits to stay in the tomb until Dagor Dagorath
It also refers to the the Stars Dying, which would also be Morgoth's return.
It's criminal this scene wasn't in the movies.
It might have gotten a PG-14 or even R
@@DarthVoron-ov3rv I doubt it. There's no blood or gore, while the actual films had a good bit of head-lopping.
Wow this was perfect for Halloween. Excellent timing, excellent work, and phenomenal execution of Tolkiens work as always. Loved this.

Every time you guys upload it makes me extremely happy cause its so well made every time!
I can't decide what I like better; your Catholic stuff, your fantasy stuff, or your Christmas stuff.
Me: oh I had not seen this one before, when did it come out?
CZcams: 5mins ago!
Me: clicking furiously and hitting like button!
same xD
Pretty much yea
the part when the "the sun fails and the moon is dead" gives me chills - knowing that would mean Morgoths return
This is why no one ever invites barrow-wights to parties.
I would love to see you do these poems in the future:
Fingolfin vs Morgoth
Legolas' To The Sea Poem
Tower of The Teeth
Fingolfin vs Morgoth I think they did already.
@@jameskurth3560 You might be referring to Finrod vs Sauron
@@DragonoidBerserker1 That is correct.
As far as I'm aware, there's no poem about the battle of Fingolfin and Morgoth.
Tolkien even tackled that topic, stating that the Elves refused to sing about this fight on the account of it being too painful a memory.
That was a wonderful take. It has been far too long since I read the book that I only remembered part of this from movie Gollum reciting a version of it. I have to say that the foreshadowing of what a world under Sauron implies recontextualizes a lot of the early book as it shows precisely what is at stake. Judging from this it sounds like if Sauron had won he would have razed all lands and try again against the Valar to kill the Stars and Moon.
One of the scariest aspects of Tolkien for sure, but I absolutely love it, and your version of it is as usual absolutely amazing, thank you so much for the hard work and amazing art :)
Merci beaucoup Clamavi de Profundis. Vos musiques sont toujours magnifiques. La musique et vos voix vont incroyablement bien ensemble. ❤. Continuez toujours !!
I was thinking just the other day how much I wanted to hear your cover of this!!
Actual goosebumps! This is brilliant.
Ay, I've been waiting for this one! Brilliant, as always!
I hope one day we have all the songs in the book! Great work.
When comparing Harry Potter to The Lord of the Rings, I hear people saying Dementors are ripoffs of Nazgul, but they sound more like Barrow Wights to me
That's an interesting thought.
That song send chills up my spine. Very well done.
I just re-read that chapter yesterday 😳
Creepy for all Hallows Eve
Repeated chills up my spine throughout, perfect for spooky season!
I did a little squeak! I'm so excited for more LoTR music!
Perfectly thrilling and chilling! Beautifully done!
May end up needing to nab this for a d&d campaign im in 😂 especially since im the Necromancer, perfect as always Clamavi!
Always excited to see an upload from you :)
This was everything I'd hoped it would be and more! What a perfect release for Holloween
Uhh. That was lovely. I loved its eery and creepy elements. I shall hautn my friends with it.
You guys did a great job with this song! I would love it if you did some of the songs from "The Hobbit" like "15 birds in 5 fir trees," "Down to Goblin Town," etc.
Is that a Mercian flag? Greetings from Worcestershire.
@@TotusTuus-jf7qz It is but it isn't. I like the colors blue and yellow and I like the St. Andrew's Cross. I am actually from South Dakota.
I finished reading LotR series yesterday (well, technically today, after midnight) But it was so immense, that I forgot about this part, until I listened to this of course.
It fits good the coming Halloween...
Thank you ❤
Upvoted it before I even started listening to it.
Beautiful and chilling! I love it when y'all cover Tolkien's songs and poems - would love if someday there's a Goblin Town cover; feel like that songs' underrated like this one.
Marvelous, absolutely marvelous.
Not gonna lie, I was waiting for "I'm waiting for you!" to come out at the end. Other than that, excellent job!
Cant wait fo the ''hey ho to the bottle i go''
I've waited for this one so long! Such a haunting tune. You guys rock!
And perfect for Halloween!
Everytime I see a new upload from you guys i get goosebumps and can't wait to hear what's install thank you
The video game „The War in the North“ had the Barrow-downs as a level putting you against the Barrow-wights and their skeleton army of dead Arnor men. This song reminds me of this.
I had forgotten this existed, really need to re-read the books while listening to your songs at the proper times, sounds like I have my Christmas break sorted ;-)
Best of luck and heart-felt thanks for the music you have provided.
Just today I was thinking to myself "You know what would be great for Clamavi to do for Halloween?" And lo and behold you beat me to it.
Hello 💙💛 Greetings from Ukraine. What can I say? That’s a masterpiece, as usual. I’m not surprised 😊😇
When I first read Lord of the Rings, I didn't know what a 'barrow' was, hopeless Yank that I was/am. I was imagining... I don't know what I was imagining. Some sort of tomb entrance cut into ditches. Now I know (thank you, Time Team), and knowing makes this *just that much cooler* so... yeah.
Props for using a picture of Sauron with only four fingers on the one hand!
I knew you would grace this song with your talent!
Again a masterpiece, and a chilling one at that.
It did feel a tad drawn out, but overall nicely done. Now... Frodo calling Bombadil and then Bombadil's rebuttal to the Wight. Go for a video stringing it all together! The Wight -> Frodo -> Bombadil for the save. I mean, it isn't about doing requests of course. No need to really. But it might be neat idea.
That is a quiet chilling song. You can really feel the cold in the song.
I love it. it was so atmospheric! if I were making a new lotr movie I'd want that scene and your music.
Like always, an amazing job. Thanks. ^^
This one is amazing! Very fitting for the month! Thank you!
I've always loved your work. I am totally going to use a variant of this in my Dnd campaign.
Cool... Now Bombadil!! 😊

Today I was a bit down and then i saw this and oh my lord. This masterpiece lifted my spirit.

Wow. This was great. Also, from where are the pictures?
Tis good Holloween fun.
Barrow Wights are a nasty business. Great song.
Really sad this portion of the book didn't make it into the movies!!! You guys did great again, as always! Where did you get the images from? (If I may ask)
