For those that are having trouble with the system that are on console or pe here is the solution:
Where the piston is dig one block deeper and place it.
There should be a red stone torch right be side it but on the white wool.
Dig one down from it and place a red stone that connects to the piston. But under the torch
Now the red stone torch on top of the lime wool, break that and the lime wool under it.
Dig one down from it and place a red stone.
Now just cover it up like the way it was. lime wool and a red stone torch on top.
Now where the repeator is on top of the white wool next to the red stone lamp. The white wool in front of the repeator. break the red stone under it and place a white wool. Now break the other red stone and place a repeator 4 ticks (max), that faces the red stone torch that’s hanging from the white wool
Now change the two repeators on the lime wool to a 4 tick repeator
Now finally the repeator where he made a 2x3 hole in the begging of the video change that to a 4 tick repeator
Should work like normal now

Problem occurs with chunk unloading. If the chunk uloads when minecart travels through it it will stop.
I think that 2x6 hole is a 2x3 hole;)

I know this is several years later but I absolutely LOVE your style of tutorial! It's very slow and methodical and it allows someone who doesn't know what they're doing to better follow along. Very clear and super helpful!
It worked for me on ps4 (11th July 2019) (To find North: The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. If you turn right from where the sun sets, you should be facing north.
Another way to find north is to look at your map. If only your z coordinates are going down, that's north. Eg.
X: 170 Y: 60 Z:60,
X: 170 Y:60 Z:59, etc. Glad I could help :))

I just build this wonderful station in Minecraft 1.14.4, and i also did it where instead of facing north, it is facing west. I also mirrored it, to get the start position to be on the left side instead of the right when facing the buttons, and it works perfectly. Shout out to you Cubey for this tutorial. This is honestly, the best tutorial for Minecraft I've ever followed! Your precise explanation on non rushed showcase, is very well put together. Keep up your good work!

This is very useful tip, though one flaw. If you want to send chest minecarts into unloaded chunks, it is not recommended. The minecart just stops in unloaded chunk, meaning you'll need to manually get it moving. The solution for this would be to have the track chunks always loaded, but it's not good idea to have any chunks other than spawn always loaded in memory, because you're going to reduce memory available for other areas that players might use, especially if your railway system is quite large. It might be good idea to build your railway system in nether instead, because you'll reduce your system scale 8 times compared to fully overworld system. So basically you're going to build something like nether subway system.
This is really cool. I just wish you gave a detailed rundown on why/how it works--describing the flow of the circuitry and its function.

Issue FIX: Me and friend couldn't get it to work either. We removed the repeater pointed into the piston with redstone piece . Then we placed a block above it. If the piston flips out just start pressing buttons.
This saved me!!! Thanks man.
mine still doesn’t work
We ended up removing the piston altogether in ours actually. We replaced the piston with two repeaters so it wouldnt attach to the adjacent wiring in that section. That part of the circuite is only there to reset the station selection. If I remember correctly you could honestly just delete that portion of the circuite entirely. You just lose the reset feature.

I love this build! It's incredible and useful. My only critique is that I like to know the why/how things work. Maybe I'm just too new, but I'm not quite sure what this mechanism is doing to force the cart onto the various tracks. As I was watching,. I can't for the life of me figure out how this works.
A bit late but i can give a quick overview. So the system uses an SR latch array to select the stations with the buttons. the output of whichever latch is chosen will propagate down to every station that comes before it changing the direction of the rails. This will allow the minecarts to go passed the stations before the designated one which won't have a switched rail. The detector rail on the track activates a pulse extender connected to a falling edge monostable circuit which would then turn off the system at a safe time. (the length of the pulse depends on how many stations you have since the reset has to consider the longest possible route).

I made this on pocket edition and it did not work but i managed to fix it by removing the repeaters near the end that connects to the rails and by removing the sticky piston's block

To my pocket edition, replace those stones facing the wall that have railways by redtorches . Basically the idea was when, for example, station 3 was hit, the redtorch connected to lamp 3 will turn off, so the torch that faced to the wall will lit up the redstone line to station 3 as well as 2 and 1 via the repeater, cause for any stations whose redstone is lit, the track will curve to the right instead of to the left for those aren't lit

I figured a fix in the most recent patch on PC java edition (july 2019)
All you must do is extend all components on the northern most side of the contraption (a few lines of redstone(8.45) and the repeater(5.10) we put in at the start in the 2x3. this will move the redstone that is attached to the corner (8.45) rails 1 block away instead of 2 blocks underneath and it will put the repeater (5.10) under the censor rail, the 2 redstone near that repeater need to be extended aswell. Hope this helps.

Ok. I discovered a flaw in this system. You can't really go back to the "departure start point". The problem is when you select to go to 'station 2' and come back to the hub station, the track that was turned to go to 'station 2' will be merging with the track to take you to 'station 1' instead of going back to the departure start point.
Yeah, for me, the rail do not reset. Is there a fix for this?
@Solar Controller 2020 This particular build never never worked for me. But I figured out a much easier way to do it. And I didnt have to build a separate return track. Everything resets properly on my track now

Made it facing south, you just have to mirror the build for the tracks to work... Also, make sure you use 4 leavers to turn off ALL the redstone lamps BEFORE you add the redstone torches. Otherwise your piston will have a fit. Minecraft on Xbox One 1.14

Please can someone work out how to get this working in the current Bedrock Edition, I have tried pretty much everything from the comments to help fix it and make it work pleeeeaaassseeee.
I've watched this video more than a dozen times, paused it a million and re-created the station from scratch, three times. This station does not work. I've made no mistakes. What is wrong with it? I'm doing this on the windows 10 edition. Does that somehow make it different?
Windows 10 Edition is the same as Bedrock/Pocket Edition, in which it does not work due to redstone being different.

@@ethpling165 I'm not sure how to explain the functions behind it but if it doesn't face north, the system won't reset to return to the departure; It will keep going back and forth from one station to the other.
Ex. If you want to go to 7, when you try to return to departure, it will send you to 6 instead and from there to you can only get to 7 and then back to 6 again
please make the metro station, its automatic stop and go minecart. btw for this station type is too damn high in youtube

I have a console issue. The design works perfectly except the tracks do not reset to the original position, thus when making the return trip from a stop it continues down the next path. Ie if I send it down to station 7 and return, it continues to turn itself into the station 6 track and continues there. How can I make it do the tracks reset and thus my cart returns to the platform.
TL:DR = tracks do not reset to default position after departure meaning I cannot return to platform.

Depending on the direction (N E S W) you're facing, the direction an unpowered rail faces may be different. You might want to inverse your redstone signal.

You actually can, just replace the buttons with levers and there you go. It works at the time I'm writing this and a few years ago I followed the design and from my knowledge I didn't have to replace anything.

If any of you are having trouble with the tracks not resetting back, make sure you're using the STICKY piston, not the ordinary piston.
my minecart does not take me back to the departure station.
Make sure that u used sticky piston and not the ordinary one. Also check that u used detector rail on the back side 😉

This works perfectly on 1.20.6 Java edition, also works with fewer stations too (tested with 4 instead of 7 in the video). Genius idea and clear tutorial!

Yes, notice how there are only two designs (Departure and one that sets the railway to a specific station), just remove repeated sections (Station 5/6/7 in your case)
I like their design but them framing it as a "build in one way only" was more just a way to simplify it for Redstone dummies.

Anyway a tip for building in different cardinal directions and for more stations.
So the direction of the station is depended on the natural orientation of the rails so for the station the curved rails should naturally face back towards the station entrance. So in order to make the station face in a different direction just invert the output of each SR latch (RS not latch) and have the output go into the curved rail :)
For more stations just repeat each SR latch module and link the outputs with repeaters and there need to be more comparators in the pulse extenders. 2 more for every 8 stations I believe but I still need to test it out :)
