      I agree. Unfortunately, Aqara is stepping over into the Philips Hue premium price range with their lighting products. I can buy an Inovelli 2-1 Zigbee wall switch and several Philips Hue bulbs for the same price as this. This should be within the $75-$99 price range.

      @morells09 Před 5 měsíci +4

      Lots of people complaining about the price and while I agree it’s a bit steep, I think Shane put it well in terms of this being a ‘you get what you pay for’ type device. When you compare to the direct competition from Philips Hue, this is $100 more cheaper plus has an additional addressable ring light. I’m sure with a typical Aqara sale we could see this drop to $100-120.

      @@wscottfunk ok but then what about the price of a similar modern-style fixture to put the $50 Hue bulbs in? I still think this is fairly priced for what you get, before factoring in the usual Aqara coupon discounts on Amazon

    I bought one of these... I like to have a Visual Status. Your videos are great Shane. If anyone does buy this. Please know that the wearing that comes on it are nothing like Units I have seen reviewed on CZcams. The wearing was in the back of the unit. 3 Cables. It did not have the slide in junction box like I have seen every where else. It's really hard to hold up and try to wire in from behind. I used the ground wire to kind of suspend it in the air. But never could get it right. I ended up pulling them through the rubber hole and wiring them inside the unit. I even used white vinyl tape to secure to the center section, so they would not hang down. Just know if you buy through Amazon. You may not get the one like he demo'd. It is a great light though. I love it.

    Thanks for the review Shane. As much as I love aqara products, I don’t see a practical use for this product in MY home, though I can see how it would work for many. I saw another mention of this in a comment, but I too think it is a little pricey. It did give me an idea though: a trimmed down version as a light kit for a ceiling fan? Maybe some day 😊

    The defuser for the color strip ring kicks this thing up a notch in terms of its lighting aesthetic. The myriad of effects on it also look great. I have a spot in the home office where I could use it, even though it means removing a ceiling fan. As I never use the fan given a full HVAC unit in there it more just my appetite for (1) the additional expense and (2) the another device to change out. I still have like 20 devices waiting to be installed and an ever shrinking allotment of time to work on that pool!

Unfortunately with newer lighting products coming out like this it seems like my switches won’t be compatible since they can turn off the power although I have neutral wires throughout the house. If this thing had a motion sensor, that would be worth it. I would also like to see a 6 or even 4'" version as I really would us this in my long hallway so a light fixture that is almost 20" is too wide for that. Currently using Lutron Caseta light switch with a Pico remote on the other end and a Ring camera to turn on when motion is detected but my room is right smack in the middle so when I come out of my room, it takes a while to detect me.
    My hallway is about 35 feet long so 4 6' would be perfect if they had motion sensors built in.

      @pghatak Před 4 měsíci

      because to use "Matter" - without needing hub- you need a device that offers Matter (the interface) but works on Thread (protocol) behind the scenes. But what Aqara has done here is using the ZigBee protocol (that needs their proprietary hub) and then it works natively on Apple Home. Matter is provided here, only to use it with other Ecosystem. So for any confusion, but that is what it is...

    • @bobcochran1925
      @bobcochran1925 Před 4 měsíci

      @@ShaneCreates I don’t think so because I created a test shortcut with just 1 line that selects the T1 light. This test shortcut turns the light on, gives me the invalid parameter error message and then aborts. I know it aborts because I then put a second step that selects one of my Lutron lights and this step doesn’t execute. If I put the Lutron light before the Aqara it executes.
      If I can’t figure this out another way I’ll reset the hub and try again.
