  • Lākhey (Nepal Bhasa: लाखे, lā-khé) (alternative spellings Lākhe, Lākhay, लाखय्) is a demon in Nepalese folklore. He is depicted with a ferocious face, protruding fangs and man of red or black hair. Lakhes figure prominently in traditional Newar culture of Nepal Mandala.
Chainpure Lakhey is one of the most beautiful and well decorated Lakhey compared to others. The Beats of Dholaki 🥁and Jhyamta📀 is so satisfying that one can enjoy on the flow of musical rhyme. 🎼
It is believed that negative energy is eased out when Lakhe लाखे dance is performed across streets and corners of habitats. Lakhe is considered to be the holy guard. Hence it is the important reason to bring him out once a year. Primarily, Lakhe लाखे Dance is celebrated between Gatha Muga: and Indrajatra. However, depending upon locality, society and rituals, the event is practiced in own musicals, styles and schedule as well.
