Man you don't even know how much I like these videos, been watching since the black wrx rust repair to prepare for my STI. Where are you guys located and where can I contact you?
Thanks brother! We are still learning everyday ourselves. Rust is so dynamic compared to just replacing parts. Its always a new challenge with each car.
New to the channel. Comes at a good time as this is the spring to work on my car. Surface rust at the top of the front fenders and some sections along the bottom of the rockers. It has been heavily undercoated and yearly oiled but I guess it was contained to the inner rocker structure. Thanks for the detailed videos.
Customer comes in for some rust repair here and there. Leaves with a full repair, body work, and eventually fresh respray 👌🏻. Looking good 👍🏻 and better to do it now before it gets worse.
Nice video! Just the motivation I need to get moving on my own rust bucket in the driveway. Need a good garage shuffle first to make room... I'll start tomorrow.
Love the content. Just please wear a bit of ppe. Some ear protection and a dust mask. Sat here with sinus problems and tinnitus that I put down to working with mdf and power tools
Definitely! I myself do wear a mask but Robert often seems to forget to wear his. I cant stand dust in the nose and it’s undoubtedly horrible for your health
That should be sand blasted and epoxy primed and drill a small hole to spray some crown rust control from inside the wheel well if you don't ever want it to come back .
How do you deal with thin steel and burning through? Our Miller 140 didnt like going low enough for me amd I kept having finger cramps trying to tack lighter and lighter lol. Good thinking with the bore scope!
Just curious what does the subframe and the restvofvthe undercarriage look like ? Where do you draw tbe line whenever taking a project like this on ? Currently have an 08' forester that needs some tlc
For example, this forester was too far gone. I did go through with the repairs but normally I would deny fixing something this bad. czcams.com/video/goO7jcHpcW4/video.htmlsi=S-2Z-P6yRhPlORls
There is a few options to avoid flash rust while sanding. There is a spray that you can later wipe off. Forget the name but have it in the shop. Self etching primer is a also a good one to stop flash rust And laslty yes a rust converter will also seal to stop flash rust. There are more options, but the above are the most convenient and efficient while working around a body
@@angrywargamer8836 subaru never zinc coated nor do they now unfortunately. A new subaru after a couple years if never rust proofed will have flaky rust underneath (In the salt belt at least)

That sounds like heaven! In the rust belt a car like the one in the video is considered very low rust. Most subarus of this age here are almost beyond saving.
Damn dude, this is EXACTLY what I have on my 03 Impreza windshield. Can’t spend $3,000 to get it fixed. But also don’t want to get rid of the car. 🫠 what do ya do?

Ya the bore scope was a neat use for it.
We use Lincoln 180 with temp as low as it goes, wire speed pretty low and just take it very slow

Quick question, when trying to prevent rust from coming back after sanding. should I use a rust converter or self-etching primer?

Hey man I’m currently doing a restoration on my 04 wrx sedan, I’m wondering where do you buy your suspension parts from?
I got mine thru rock auto.
❤
In the fuel filler door the outer skin is seam sealed to the inner, but what did you do to attach the repair panel?
Get out the foam stuff the best you can, could use panel bond inside. The foam is what causing them to start rusting near the gas door 🥲
Where are you guys located? You do awesome work.
Thanks brother! We are in Primrose, Ontario
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
What type of glazing putty do you use?
I believe its Rage Ultra, its amazing. Very smooth application and sand so nice
What do you guys use to treat the bare metal before priming?
Etch primer for spots as you go or spots that you wont be able to get to later. But when possible we use epoxy primer on bare metal
@@TheSubieSanctuary wouldn’t flash rust be an issue if you just primer it?
@@jeff666p etch primer is what you are supposed to use on bare metal spots if you are not using epoxy primer.
are older subarus rust prone or is this just Toronto winters?
Our salted winters are killer here on cars, but also most all old Japanese cars are very rust prone as well.
did they not zinc coat? Are they zinc coating now?@@TheSubieSanctuary

@TheSubieSanctuary are you kidding me? I live in Buffalo NY. Even with regular krown or fluid film coats its tough here.
What about Honda and VW?

Where I am from, cars have not had rust issues since the 80's . Unless you park it in the Ocean.

Same here. Don't want to get rid of it... only has 75k miles... Just saving up to get it fixed.
