Devil's Daughter by Lisa Kleypas (Book 5 in The Ravenels) was literally everything I love in a historical romance. Widow, slight enemies to lovers, absolutely adorable and hilarious. I'll also throw in Hello Stranger by Lisa Kleypas (Book 4 in The Ravenels) purely for the hero.

I like light hearted romance with a lot of banter, and Loretta Chase and Laura Lee Gurkhe always manage to hit the right notes for me. Just re-read Lord Perfect for a February romance challenge I'm doing and it was every bit as good as I remember, but her dress maker series is my favorite (highly recommend "Silk Is for Seduction) and the Dear Lady Truelove series by Gurkhe is delightful. Throwing some in some rec's as a long-time fan of this genre: Lisa Kleypas keepers: Dreaming of You, Where Dreams Begin, Suddenly You, Mine Till Midnight, Seduce Me at Sunrise, Blue-Eyed Devil and Dream Lake (these two are contemporary romance, but great), Someone to Watch Over Me, Lady Sophia's Lover, Worth Any Price, and probably more lmao. Kleypas at her A-game is so freaking good! Also SO refreshing that her heroes are so unique, like gambling club owners, investors, publishers, Bow Street Runners, Romani, theatre actors, distillery owners, in the oil industry, etc. The heroines are also fantastic. This author is a queen~~
More novels of the top of my head which stand out: Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie (yes!!), Raven Prince, The Silent Governess, Seize the Fire, Waking Up with the Duke, The Anatomist's Wife (murder mystery historical romance! the Lady Darby series is great :- D), Outlander, All Through the Night, The Windflower, Lord of Danger, Kingdom of Dreams, Duke of Shadows, Venetia, The Forbidden Rose, Girl in the Gatehouse, A Week to be Wicked, A Lady's Lesson in Scandal, Lions and Lace, Dream Hunter, The Tutor's Daughter, Slightly Dangerous, etc. LOL I'm kinda obsessed, sorry!

My #1 favorite author is Lisa Kleypas. Read all of her books. They are all great. The Bride by Julie Garwood is my favorite among her books. I think it will make a good movie. Whitney My Love by Judith Mcnaught is my favorite among her books. Sara MaClean books are very good too. I listen to audiobooks now which has been narrated by Rosalyn Landor. She has a great voice and her performance for all kind of characters, being a man, woman, scotish, child, different accentes are great.

I have a rule that if a Romance novel doesn't make me laugh or "hook" me in a blind opening read of a page and a half I put it back on the shelf. I also don't (generally) read a romance more than once. With those rules in place, you can not lose with Tessa Dare's "The Duchess Deal". I have not only read it once, I have read it THREE times it is so funny, and each time I laugh more. Try it, you'll like it. I love Sarah MacLean anything, and I have read most of Kerrigan Byrne's Victorian Rebel series (so good!) books, starting with The Highwayman.

I really enjoyed Margaret Lowell’s trio of historicals but they were very obviously written a long time ago and did not age well, some problematic scenes I think. But they were well researched and I really liked the characters and medieval setting.

Very late to commenting but I saw Flowers from the storm by Laura Kinsale mentioned in the comments and had to say something. Read it many years ago and listened to it on Audible recently. It is beautifully written and incredibly touching. The basic synopsis of the plot details the love between a rakish duke and a prim, kindhearted and stubborn Quaker miss. Maddie helps and believes in him when he is placed in a asylum for the supposedly mad after suffering a stroke that affects the language processing part of his brain. His family is ready to give up on him but she is drawn to him and believes it is her calling to help him. The characters are well developed and this story just stays with you where others are quickly forgotten. Truly a classic historical romance.
