- A group of Bristol bus enthusiasts decided to run our bus to Bristol from Glastonbury and Street, for free and using old busses.
So as you can imagine as soon as I heard I decided to take the cameras out to see what would happen. And I am glad I did because as you can see it was a great day out even if Bristol was closed when I got there.
1960 - 66, 4 trips a day, to school, home for dinner, back to school, then home for teatime, 2d each way, all on Bristol green buses in Cheltenham, on my own ( 5 to 11 years old ) , fantastic .
Happy New Year all.
Wonderful Thanks for sharing!
I love old buses, seeing these did made me happy.
Thank you . It was ace to ride them again
Hello Gabe, another cracking video, I always look forward to seeing your videos keep ‘ em coming, take care
Thanks, will do! I love the little yellow fellow 😀
A wonderful start to the year. Thank you Gabriel.
Happy new year! And thank you
I thoroughly enjoyed this video, but I guess I would, considering I spent over 30 years "on the buses". I had to be a conductor at first. Great fun, then I actually learned to drive (you could in those days) in a double -decker bus with crash gearbox. We were a mostly Leyland and AEC company. Those huge round Clayton heaters were simply the best ever!. You and others might be interested to know that there is usually another free running day on January 1st over at Winchester. The Friends of King Alfred have a sizeable fleet of preserved vehicles form the famous independent company, so also worth a visit. Glad you enjoyed your day, and hope we can all enjoy more of them, despite the best efforts of those who would have all these historic things stuffed and mounted.
Thanks Bernie. It’s in my diary for next year
This was great. I never thought I'd be that interested in old busses but you converted me. You had great company, like minded people, and superb music to accompany your journey. People with a passion, you can't beat it. I grew up with 'On the busses' so this was somewhat touching. Thanks, GG, great to see this!
Thanks Andrew. If you are now a bus fan I have a video coming out before spring about my trip to the Imber bus meet back in the summer
@@GlastonburyGabriel Good stuff. As a subscriber I'll look forward to your notification.
Wow always something really groovy thanks xxx
Thank you 😀😀
Nice to see these old vehicles back in service what a great video...I am way too old for that snogging seat😂😊
Ah fond memories
Great video Gabriel, we had Hants and Dorset buses like the one that brought you home from Wells, we had a couple of comics on one route the clippy sometimes wavered the fee oh, to be 18 again, ha ha wishing you a very happy new year .😂🎉😊
Is it just my rose tinted glasses or were those better days 😀
Strange to see an Eastern Counties bus pulling up at Glastonbury! Amazing! Haha and most of the buses in this video were built in my hometown, Lowestoft, Suffolk! By the way thank you for plugging my channel (12:46) 😂 Eastern Coach Works logo. I do a lot of vlogging in Glastonbury and would of loved to be there for this. I'd of definitely made a video too. Nice one, well done.
Next time you are here let me know😀😀
Very interesting video. I wonder if it was well publicised?
It’s a shame Bristol was empty when you got there! But a wonderful idea - so unusual & free to boot! The buses weren’t full but equally good to see the uptake as weather so wretched!
They didn’t want it too publicised as they couldn’t have huge queues at the bus stops. That Elf and safety strikes again
I was driving the white Bristol RE (GCL 349N) which you boarded at Glastonbury town hall. Sorry I didn’t have a chance to have a proper chat with you at Wells but I hope you enjoyed your day on the buses
I did it was an excellent day and a huge thanks to you and everyone who worked so hard to make this work
How did you her about it Gabriel. It would have been a great New Years Day adventure. Great video. Thank you. 😊
Thank you They didn’t want to advertise it too much as they didn’t want huge numbers of people at the bus stops
