The new version propelled Kylie into global pop stardom, reaching No. 2 in the UK, No. 3 in the US (her biggest US hit) and No.1 in Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Israel, Japan and South Africa. The track - a cover of Little Eva’s American dancefloor smash, written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin - featured on Kylie’s 7x platinum (UK) debut album, Kylie, and remains one of her successful single releases to date.

The original was from 1962 by Little Eva; for me its the 1974 Grand Funk Railroad version that is closest to my heart.

Exactly right, and I think that every time I watch this. So much for the critics who said this was manufactured pop. So what if it is, it's still a great song. As Kylie said, if an artist is signed to a record label, then to some extent they're manufactured because they're a product and they're also selling a product, but it doesn't mean that you're not talented.

Kylie and I are the same age so clear memories when she burst onto the scene, and she did indeed, make big waves. There was some criticism of her and her voice which many people now probably aren't aware of but she stuck to her guns and kept putting out hit after hit. Got to see her live in London (where she was bigger than Australia at that time), and ran into Molly Meldrum in the audience haha. Good old Molly.
Well done Kylie on a stellar career. Who would have thought? The new work is as good as anything over the past 36 years (and it's hard for me to acknowledge that it's really been that long).
