  • Chain sawing on a lathe? Well, kind of... It was there, it was the right height, so I might as well use it, and the thumbnail isn't clickbait!
I use the last of my black walnut log stash, that I've been whittling away at for about 14 years or so. This log is super seasoned, and by that I mean very dry and perfectly preserved. Even as dry as it was, Black Walnut is always a pleasure to turn, yielding lots of nice shavings, and hopefully a nice result.

It's important for me to share with you, that Jesus Christ is my personal Savior, and the same can be said for any of you.
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
    Food for thought at least.
    thanks for watching!

My Grandmother used to knit and she would have used the hole in that bowl to feed yarn through and left the ball in the bowl so it could run out what she needed without the ball becoming a mess. I think that would be a shame for such a beautiful piece. Semper Fi Brother.

The figure in that specimen is stunning, and very appealing. It would have been a crying shame for it to be consumed as firewood. Glad you rescued it from the burn pile and made that bowl from it.

Black walnut for firewood? No way! Over here in Germany you would get high prices for this kind of wood for furniture, laminate and such. Good that you grabbed the opportunity. That wood grain is already awesome after you rounded it. Semper Fi.

That is gorgeous - so glad you saved it from the firewood pile. Looked up your 22 A Day bracelet - so sad the read about those who gave so much ending their lives. Thank you for your service.

Rod, Gorgeous Gorgeous bowl! There is something to say about black walnut. Even more to say about the verses you chose. 41 years ago those verses led me to my Lord and Savior. PTL!!! Be blessed. Hugs to Sue!

That natural hole means you accidentally made a yarn bowl! It’s beautiful.

"Black Walnut" and "firewood" have no right appearing in the same sentence together! Glad you managed to save that beautiful resource and put it to best use. Gorgeous piece! 👍

Ther is something very comforting about a simple piece of turning. I wanted just to hold it and look at the grain. I think it is quite something it getes partially turned with just so little in the chuck. Then The interlude with work from others . Thank you for this posting.

That is beautiful black walnut and you made even more so. It is good that no lathes hurt in the process. Watching you and listening to you speak makes my day

The bowl was GORGEOUS! You are an amazingly talented gentleman! I looked up both the verses, of course. And to both I say AMEN! Thank you for posting those, brother! God bless you, and Semper Fi, marine! Thank you, and your brother and sister marines, for protecting my SeaBee husband during his time in the service! ❤️

When you said you picked the wood up 14 years ago my first thought was oh back in the 90s. Then I realised it would be back when I met my wife. Now I'm thinking about my daughter that was born a few weeks back who just turned 2. Doesn't time make a mockery of us all!
