Have a great day!
This song was made in 1940 for the film "João Ratão" (A portuguese film about a portuguese WW1 soldier) and became popular once again in the '60s when Fernando Farinha singed the song (I used Farinha's version btw). The song talks about the return of a portugese soldier to his home after he served in WW1, and this soldier talks about his life in the trenchs and it's hope of victory and returning to Portugal.
Lyrics in Portuguese:
O soldado na trincheira,
Não passa duma toupeira
Vive debaixo do chão.
Só pode ter a alegria
De espreitar a luz do dia
Pela boca de um canhão.
Mas quando chegar a hora
Dele arrancar por aí fora
Ao som da marcha de guerra,
Seus olhos são duas brasas
E as toupeiras ganham asas
Como as águias lá da serra.
Rastejamos como sapos,
Com as fardas em farrapos
Pela terra de ninguém
Mas cá dentro o pensamento,
Corre mais alto que o vento
Voando para nossa mãe.
E se eu morrer na batalha,
Só quero ter por mortalha
A bandeira nacional.
E na campa de soldado,
Só quero um nome gravado
O nome de Portugal.
Soldados da nossa terra,
São voluntário da guerra
Que vêm bater-se por brio.
Raça de fogo e de glória,
Que escreveu a nossa história
Nos mundos que descobriu.
Por isso a Pátria distante,
Brilha em nós a cada instante
Como a luz de uma candeia,
Que arde de noite e de dia
No altar da Virgem Maria
Na igreja da nossa aldeia.
Rastejamos como sapos,
Com as fardas em farrapos
Pela terra de ninguém
Mas cá dentro o pensamento,
Corre mais alto que o vento
Voando para nossa mãe.
E se eu morrer na batalha,
Só quero ter por mortalha
A bandeira nacional.
E na campa de soldado,
Só quero um nome gravado, o nome de…

Lyrics in English:
The soldier in the trench,
Is nothing more than a mole
Lives under the ground.
Can only have happiness
Of peeking the daylight
By the cannon’s mouth.
But when the time comes
For him to charge out there
To the sound of the war march,
His eyes are two embers
And the moles gain wings
Like the eagles of the mountains.
We crawl like frogs,
With the uniforms in rags
Through the no man’s land
But here inside, the thought
Runs faster than the wind,
When for our mom.
And if I die in the battle,
I just want to have as shroud
The national flag.
And at the tomb of the soldier,
I just want one name recorded,
The name of Portugal.
Soldiers of our land,
Are war volunteers
Who come to fight for pride.
Race of fire and glory,
That wrote our history
In the worlds that it discovered.
That's why the distant homeland,
Shines in us every instant
Like the light of a lamp,
That burns during night and day
In Virgin Mary’s altar
In the church of our village
We crawl like frogs,
With the uniforms in rags
Through the no man’s land
But here inside, the thought
Runs faster than the wind,
When for our mom.
And if I die in the battle,
I just want to have as shroud
The national flag.
And at the tomb of the soldier,
I just want one name recorded, the name of…

En: If you're wonderin what "Fado" means, it is a Portuguese music style
Br: se você está se perguntando oque "Fado" significa, é um estilo de música portuguesa
Fim fact: in portuguese Fado also means future/what life has for you, that’s why the music is always so melancholic, it talks about an uncertain future. (Sorry for my English I’m Portuguese)

E assim nasce uma lenda: Soldado Milhões.

And thus a legend was born: Soldier Millions.
of course the bravest soldier in military history had to be portuguese, only a portuguese has the balls needed. 😜
always outnumbered but still managed to come out victorious like against the ones of castille/spain, almohad caliphate, moroccan sultanate, ottomans, mamlucs, venecian empire, safavid empire, gujarat sultanate, moghul empire, maratha empire, matsura takanobu clan, dutch empire and napoleonic french empire.
we always came on top and managed to discover and conquer half of the world ( because the other half was already known😉)
@@ThrE3-GeS When you're a small country, it's mandatory that you always make the best out of what little you have. Using your troops as inexperienced cannon fodder is not an option; otherwise, you'll never be able to punch above your weight.
@@alexandrearaujo2877 yes that‘s true. you have to be responsible with your resources. but it takes balls to even put a fight when you are heavily outnumberd and in the case of our history this outcome was standard. portuguese where known to be fiercely warriors. there are many eyewitness reports like for exemple in the case of the battle of diu wich i once read and it pointed out the bravery of their commander and his men. so i think it’s a mix of both, balls and the need to adapt to our limited man power.
Vamos Portugal ✊
Thank you for your hard work. Great stuff. ❤

Несмотря на то, что русский язык - это язык, который я действительно хотел бы знать, нет, я не говорю по-русски, я просто использую переводчик гугл, чтобы лучше общаться со своими русскими зрителями.
