I like to think of his three forms taking in characteristics of the most dominant Cells.
Imperfect Cell: Resembles Piccolo, is calculating and intelligent.
Semi perfect cell: Resembles Vegeta, gains an ego and uses the Big Bang attack
Perfect cell: Resembles Goku, wants a challenge and so he creates the Cell games

I would say imperfect cell has the dominant cells of the none alien Z Fighters besides Piccolo and whatever the hell is used as a common ancestor base.
semi perfect start of traits from the Frieza Clan and Saiyan cells largely because his appearance is similar to that of second and third form Frieza what is attitude is a cross between Vegeta's and frieza's.
Perfect cells prominently Saiyan based with bit's Frieza Clan mentally he's a cross between Piccolo and Frieza with Goku and Frieza is arrogance. I'd wager it was a 45% Frieza Clan, 45% Saiyan, 5% namekian and 5% other

The android saga and cell saga had the peak of DBZ's dialogue, fights, cool power ups and general story. Like nearly every episode had something awesome.
To me it applies more to the Frieza arc. First of all, incredibly great story (last standing Saiyan becoming this legendary SSJ and taking revenge on an evil emperor on behalf of his men, parents, home planet, his friends and even his greatest enemy, all destroyed by the same enemy. Secondly, the dramatic and emotional weight - Vegeta being humiliated, tortured and killed by Frieza really hits in the feels. The saddest sequence in the whole DBZ in my opinion. The Cell arc is second best.
I think Cell potential is so underrated with his saiyan dna and frieza dna if he trained he has potential to be so strong plus he gets power boost from near death experiences.

Madwestboy Cell was toying with him and didn’t dodge on purpose. Even after losing his arm and part of his torso he regrew it and was just as smug. He then went on to wreck Vegeta and hurt not only his body but his pride

To this day cells first appearance in series gives me chills. Everything leading up to it felt like you were watching some horror movie being played out in front you. I consider that the best introduction to any character in the franchise.
First form Cell was the best form. The way he destroyed both Piccolo and 17 was amazing.

I agree too. I liked the fight between Cell & 16. The fact that 16 was finally ready to step in and take on imperfect Cell. I loved it so much.
It should be noted that Piccolo was exhausted after fighting 17. Also, 17 can't sense ki at this point in time.

It's not just his design that's the best, but that introduction was so damn good. May be the best reveal for a villain in the entire series.

I don't really think so, the transformation looked like it was going to transform all the way but stopped halfway to perfect. I don't think it would've made much difference other than the power boost because 17 was a little stronger than 18. That's my take on it, but who knows i could be wrong.

A lot of people forget that Frieza at the time would get *BUFF* when he went full power as well, which could in part explain Cell getting *BUFF* at full power!
Yeah , but while Cell was extra buff , his aura was yellow which is only seen around the users of Super Saiyan 1 to 3 .
I love how Cell and Goku are very similar; for example, they were both able to reproduce a power after experiencing it only once. (Goku with God Ki and Cell with his perfect form)
Even after the power source left them, they could still tap into it.
Cell is very Saiyan-like which is why I think he was a Super Saiyan...
And I often like to think of perfect Cell as an evil Goku...
Someone also noted that the forms of Cell mirror the fighters he faces Piccolo, Vegeta, Goku, Gohan in that order which is also true in a way.
He's also similar personality wise to goku as he's pretty laid back
I think cell has super saiyan with a boost from frieza and piccolos cells, think about it he used a similar power up and was somehow way stronger than a super saiyan i think it's because his transformation was amplified by frieza and piccolos cells.

I never understood why they call cell an android since he was clearly cultivated from cells of other fighters essentially being organic in nature, he was created as an embryo and matured like any other living creature, I have my doubts as to whether Toriyama even knows what an “android” actually is.

You didn't mention Vegeta distracting Cell during the beam struggle.
True... i mean Gohan was stronger but not by that much as Geekdom claims. Gohans power was cut due his injuries. Vegeta's blast distracted/injured/crippled Cell which led to Gohan overpower him. If Gohan was really as powerful as Geekdom101 claims he could have overpowered Cell without Vegeta having to distract/cripple him.
Also if gohan was actually stronger than him then cell crippling his arm with a blast kinda puts a damper on that thought process...cell pretty much lost because of his hubris just like he did with vegeta, and vegeta was the one that made him mess up against gohan

Cell has some nice forms. I like Cell's first form and his perfect form. That includes Cell's Cell Junior kids. One of them would actually have been female.

I personally like how Cell’s voice actor Dameon Clarke changes his voice with each transformation. Perfect Cell’s my favorite, and Semi-Perfect (2nd Form) Cell’s my... well, second, and Imperfect (1st Form) Cell is last.
He was called "Power-Weighted" in Budokai 1 because his final transformation is supposed to be when he gets all buff and pissed off. For whatever reason, the model only changes in the story mode fight against him, but has no difference with regular Perfect Cell's one when used by the player.
A similar issue occurs where Final Form Freeza's model is the same as his 100% powered up state when used by the player, with the leaner build being relegated to only story mode as well.
My first exposure to DBZ, after hearing about Cell and the androids from my friend (I pictured the androids to look like blocky robots haha), was the dubbed episode 'Android Explosion' during the Cell Games. And I LOVED it, I thought perfect Cell was freaking awesome and from there I was hooked!
Cell's power was actually underestimated, he only lost because he was getting attacked by more than one a fighter during the blast. Vegeta helped Gohan to be able to defeat Cell otherwise Cell had them all. He lost by teamwork and being too arrogant. Regardless he is one of the best villains in Dragonball history and my favorite! He deserved a better fate.

I get the feeling that the whole "Cell not fitting in the time machine" thing had something to do with the large stiff wing things and long thick tail instead of his height (not to mention the large head crest as well), i can imagine that those wings and tail make it impossible for him to sit on anything that has a back to it and the time machines seat doesn't seem to have any space behind it to "drape" his wings over, it may sound like a half-ass excuse but it also kind of makes sense, his "body extensions?" made him not quite fit so he had to compress by devolving. that's my theory anyway.
The way I've understood cell's transformations is, he ALWAYS has the data in his DNA for his perfect form, but that like super saiyan 3 and some other transformations, it has a TREMENDOUS energy requirement, and that all he gets from absorbing the androids is their Infinite Engines, and that TWO engines that can give their host infinite stamina are required before his body can actually achieve and maintain his perfect form.
The fact that he is then able to re-achieve his perfect form, but seems to get even stronger even after self destruction, is because of that Zenkai boost. He gets so much stronger from surviving that, that he finally has the energy to maintain that form himself, even without the engines.
That's of course not quite how its presented in the lore, buuuuuuuuut the explanation given for these sorts of things is often a little lacking, and it requires some lateral thinking to really figure it out.
This also makes me realize, if Bulma did to Goku what Giro did to the androids, he'd have essentially no limit to how long he can maintain SSJ3

Cell wasn't kidding when he said he couldn't fit in the time machine. Imperfect Cell stands a little over 7 feet tall. Future Trunks stands at 5 feet 7 inches.

Super perfect cell is on par with ssj2 gohan when he's calm. Cell was indeed winning the clash and was toying with him but Gohan was injured.
4:38- the changes are still there, just slightly more subtle going from a low rasp to a clearer sounding polite tone to an even cleaner sounding tough/polite tone.

Gohan even mentioned that he only had half of his power left und could only use one arm for his Kamehameha. But despite this handicap he was stll able do destroy Super-Perfect-Cell after Vegeta distracted him. Thats mean SSJ2-Gohan(without any help)>SPCell.
Wrong. Not only did Vegeta's distraction cause Cell's power to momentarily diminish, but Gohan's power being "cut in half" was BS. At half power, he would not have maintained his SS2 power. Not only that, but Cell broke a full powered SS2Gohan's arm with one hit and owned him for the entire kamehameha struggle. Cell was stronger.

I would love for Cell to return, he is my favorite character in the series. But he likely won't because of how annoying his spots are to animate. Too bad one of the characters with the most potential won't make a return because of an aspect that could be removed and nobody would care. Frankly, give him Freeza's gold form. Then make the gold form have 0 spots and only ever show him in the gold form. Aside from the glaring issue that the form is hard to maintain over lengthy periods of time sending the community into an uproar on how he shouldn't be capable of that, fixed.
Toriyama just said that the spots were annoying to draw, I never really heard anything about the animation. besides, Tori doesn't write Dragonball on his own, so that wouldn't be a problem unless he feels bad for Toyotaro.
And like you said, at worst they would just give him a new form with no spots.

Future writers, if you’re reading this, revive cell! He’s too good of a character not to have again! He should be like an anti villain. He was hilarious in DBFZ and him in the show would be no different! His hand was damaged but at the same time you could say it took constant efforts of the entire Z-squad including a full power Vegeta Ki-Blast to the back of his head to help Gohan win the Kamehameha battle against Super-Perfect Cell, so I think they are quite even, maybe with slight advantage for Gohan.

I have to disagree! Cell's power was not necessarily lower than Gohan's. I'm not sure if you remember, but it was Gohan, Krilin, Tien, Yamcha, Piccolo, and Vegeta who fought Cell all at once :D
Vegeta blew Cell's momentum, and that's when Gohan beats Cell. Cell was about to beat everyone essentially. So, not really a fair fight ;)
well Gohan broke his arm when he saved Vegeta so there was already a strain on his body even before the beam clash and all it took was a distraction for Gohan to overpower him so had Gohan been unencumbered by his injury he'd have won easily

Cell was strong enough to crush Gohans arm. That already shows that Cells power was as great as Gohans or even higher if he was able to do that.
And no, Gohan didnt had his guard down. He was in full fighting mode with his aura up and everything being prepared for the hit and even with his aura protection and with his knowledge of the incoming attack cells attack was strong enough to break it.
Im sure both of their powers were pretty similar.
@@XDrakeX1 sure but Gohan rushed in to take the blast he didn't prepare himself to take it he just jumped in front of it on instinct to save Vegeta which costed him his arm in some translations especially the games which I take with a grain of salt say this cut Gohan's ki in half and yet Gohan still overpowered cell albeit with a distraction but still taking into account he was at half ki (still don't know if he was) is an impressive feat

Yeah he jumped in front of him but he was still fully prepared to take the hit. He was on guard no matter what.
The thing is that Cell was able to completely destroy his arm with an casual attack. That arleady shows how strong Cell was. It was just a casual attack but it could hurt a SSJ2. Thats why Cell was definitely in the same league as Gohan.
Also just because you cant use your arm anymore doesnt mean that your power drops by half or whatever. Gohan should still have the same power as before, he just couldnt use his arm. Its the same with Shanks. Just cause you cant use your arm doesnt mean that you are loosing power from your body. Thats also why it makes sense that he could still beat Cell.
As i said in my mind Cell and Gohan at that point nearly had the same strenght. The beam struggle is also hinting at that. Of course Gohans injury and the pain was distracting his concentration but Cell got distracted himself and Gohan got the right motivation from Goku to push everything at the right moment. Thats how he won and thats how you win if both fighters have similar strenght. The right moment is the deciding factor.

There are two types of villains I love. One type is the cartoonishly evil kind, the kind that just loves being evil. The other is the dark reflection villain; Cell is one of those kind. Cell takes the idea of self improvement, and ideology of our heroes and perverses it. it's why Cell is my favorite villain.

Kuribohchaos8 It’s more because he has Goku’s cells. Goku was a fast learner, able to learn the Kamehameha after watching it ONCE. So it stands to reason that Cell would have this trait from Goku as well
goku has the ability mimicry he can copy anything he sees done , majin buu fat buu also has this ability.

Cell was only created because Android 17 and 18 threaten to kill Dr. Gero. I believe when Dr.Gero shut them off the first time that's when he planned and started to make Cell.
Cleeche Copeland that’s not the case because in trunks’ future cell also exists and as we know gero was unable to shut down 17 and 18 when he activated them the first time, that’s why present 17 and 18 are different than their future counterpart because in the future gero didn’t have time to modify them after they tried to kill him the first time

When gohan was prepping to fight cell the second time he was pretty confident that he could beat cell, but he lost the confidence after cell blasted his arm. Where he told goku that he wasn’t sure if he could beat cell anymore because he had less than half of his life left.(probably due to the damage sustained from his arm)

I dunno. I feel like in the Gohan x Cell finisher, Vegeta bapping Cell in the back with a ki blast is underrated. Piccolo noticed it at least, but Piccolo's the chill dude.
That split moment was enough to completely change the dynamic of the fight.
The way I see it Perfect Cell would be truly perfect if he retained the personality and cleverness he showed in his Imperfect form and didn't allow his ego to get the better of him. Also funny thing is how Perfect Cell in particular was actually one of the least evil villains in Z.
Cell is one of the best designs ever in anime.
