The main concern Hawaii residents should have is jobs. For more Local News from Hawaii News Now: https:/www.hawaiinewsnow.com For more CZcams Content: / @hawaiinews
Also speaking as a Kanaka Maoli, I’m glad the acquisition will keep the Hawaiian Airlines fleet, logo, branding, and so forth. It is highly unlikely that Hawaiian Airlines will dissolve completely, which is what a lot of people are worried about. The Alaska group does recognize the cultural and historical significance of Hawaiian Airlines.
They will dissolve the Hawaiian within 2 years. First the HQ and people then the name. I fear we have enjoyed the last of that outstanding Hawaiian Air Hospitality
I won't fly Alaska anyway, remember that MD80 that went in off the coast of LA that was coming back from Mexico? I had friends on that plane. Cause of crash? POOR MAINTENANCE on the part of Alaska.@@hnlmike3589
Sure, now what? Triple prices? Plenty locals support both of these airlines so now locals will be left out becuse of the higher prices and jobs will vanish... ugh😖
So they are going to perform their merger more like how KLM/AirFrance did their where when they merged they kept both companies independent so thats how Alaska/Hawaiian want to do their merger pretty much!!!! Well if that's the case then i say Go For It but if Hawaiian's brand is gonna disappear then im all against it
It is very common for airline groups to operate under different names. This is extremely common around the world. Lufthansa Group operates Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, Eurowings, Swiss, and Lufthansa. IAG (International Airline Group) operate Aer Lingus, British Airways, IAG Cargo, Iberia, LEVEL, Vueling. Air China group operates Air China, Air Macau, AMECO, Tibet AIrlines, Shenzhen Airlines, Shandong Airlines, Dalian Airlines. ANA Holdings operates Air Japan, Air Nippon, ANA, Peach, Vanilla Air. Etihad Airways operates Etihad, Air Serbia, Virgin Australia, Air Seychelles. The list goes on and on. In the US it is common as well, just not as you think. American AIrlines Group operates AA, Envoy, Piedmont and PSA. United AIrlines Holdings operates UA, Air Wisconsin, CommutAir, GoJet, Mesa, Republic, SkyWest. So when you say it is unheard of for an airline group to operate under different names is false in any narrative.
@Angel-np7wj in my experience flying to Hawaii, they are consistently late and fly only small aircraft. I want a full service airline , not an economy flight. I am willing to pay for the amenities not offered by Alaska or Southwest.
Alaska has been rated the best airline in America for more than a decade now… Hawaiian has been rated the worst airline in America by far for even longer… Over time… Alaska will have to get rid of most Hawaiian employees…
Not true. Both Alaska and Hawaiian have been in the top 5 US airlines for at least the last 13 years and most of Hawaiian’s employees are union so they are going anywhere. There could be some headquarters type people that could get cut but for the most part everyone will stay.
Nope…. At the end of the day it will be in Seattle. Alaska will run EVERYTHING the way they want….. I still missed Aloha Airlines but I do understand this is how business goes….
Misleading headline: No info here about how the merger will affect customers, only staff.
Less competition is never good for consumers. Never.
Alaska wants to make this merger like those of Air France/KLM or Lufthansa/SwissAir.
This is bad news. Prices will be going up, up and away. Someone is making big money on this deal, and their not from hawaii.
As a Kanaka Maoli. This is sad no matter what anyone says. Hawaii is loosing it's sprit.
Hawaiian Airlines was always a mainland owned company.
@roro2k Right thanks for educating me KAREN.

Agreed!!!
My best friend works for Alaska Airlines they are a good sad about the situation.

If they ever try eliminate Hawaiian I will never fly Alaska… Hopefully they know better since both carriers have native people community roots etc

The merger may fall through. Time will tell.

Alaska will contract out the ground crew soon after, not a good merger of the two.
This whole time I thought it was Abraham Lincoln on the tail, lol
What does Billy V think About This ? That’s What Everybody Wants To Know ! 🌸
SAD
Disaster, what a shame. ASA will screw it over and all HAL's great employees...
SIGH

actually Virgin Australia went into administration during the pandemic and is now owned by bain capital
I wonder why code sharing isn't enough?
Let’s just hope Alaskan doesn’t give Hawaiian the same treatment they gave when they bought Virgin America.
Alaska is an aerial bus company. I won't be using them.
Let’s fly on another carrier
Delta is way better.
Actually Alaska is nice tho
They destroyed Virgin America, Hawaiian is next.

They must change the name to something less regional.
Native Air
Hawaiian going bankrupt 😂
NOT funny!
Hawaiian should not be based in Seattle 😂😂

No reason to fly Hawaiian now when its HQ will now be in Alaska,. Pilots will be laid off and it's all just window dressing.
Pilots laid off?? Are you kidding? There is such a HUGE demand for pilots right not that won’t be going anywhere. None of the union workers will.
Hawaiian says it will be based in Honolulu.
Won't be up to Hawaiian after the merger.
Nope…. At the end of the day it will be in Seattle. Alaska will run EVERYTHING the way they want….. I still missed Aloha Airlines but I do understand this is how business goes….
Hawaii will be the 2nd largest Base for Alaska but the main headquarters will be in Seattle. They could have some offices in Hawaii though.
ha ha "nuz" or propaganda ???
