  • Hello,
This Beaver dam holds a lot of water. Pipes of reclamation which is under ground erodes during the cold season. So I had deal with it :)

Fund you?????? To destroy more nature? You're not even doing it for an acceptable reason, just a hobby is it? You are part of the reason for 20 species exti9nctions a week, that's a thousand plus a year. Better get ready for extinction, you haven't got much time.

It amazes me what beavers are able to do with just some sticks and mud. Incredible animals. I know how disruptive this is but it’s easy to appreciate what they can do

One meter (1m) is juuuuuust short of one yard/three feet. So unless you need _precision,_ everytime they say "meter" in terms of measuring *distance,* think "yard".
However, one kilometer (1000m) _is not the same_ as one mile, so that conversion doesn't work there!

In Lithuania when a lot of sticks are unavailable they pack lots of clay. Where they only have cattail reeds they build monumental dams from reeds. Beavers are resourceful. When pulling the sticks from the dam under the sticks the mud will not wash away without a spade. Humans are just the most recent arrivals to the beaver who has built his dams for many years for protection from animals who would eat the beavers if not flooded. Also where cold weather would freeze the water the beavers can swim under the ice. Enter their lodge which predators would have to be very determined and would not pay for all the stick removal for one beaver as lodges are very difficult for bear or wolves to dig through. Bear would be in hibernation so when frozen would not pose so much of a threat as lurking cats or wolves.

Have you ever tried a pruning saw (an inward curved saw blade 30 - 40 cm on the end of a pole)? It may get hung up on fine branches, but could possibly make short work of cutting the stacked branches on two sides of the dam.
