what species of skink do you love most?
I love my peters banded skinks, just great little guys
Thanks for talking about the pink tongue skinks! They don’t get enough love❤
I want an Emerald Tree Skink! Can't believe they weren't an alternative. They are prob on the Top 5.
the fire skink!!! i plan on getting one soon ( i just saw the fire skink on the list)
I really like pink and blue tongue skinks!
Shots fired buddy 😂! All jokes aside, thanks for shedding light on the importance of supporting captive bred reptiles and in this specific case, red-eyed crocodile skinks! They are a worlds difference in temperament, etc too! To add to your point, these guys aren’t the best pets for everyone because they do hide a lot and can be quite shy although you can work on this and get them more comfortable around you overtime.
Watching your videos has been amazing. I've learned so much from you. Thank you! And I'd love to get some someday. Peace
@@MamaKat62 thanks for the love! Happy you’ve learned lots and am grateful for your support and viewership!
Yours are amazing!!
How bout you stop Right there and let me smoke uou off pal.
@Reptiliatus Reptiliatus if you see this where are based
I’m surprised you didn’t talk about emerald tree skinks, I personally think they are a better alternative to monkey tail skinks, they are smaller, friendlier, more interactive, and more beautiful imo
My favorite from this list has to be the red eyed crocodiles skink. It's so cool looking! Oh and those Monkey Tails are wild lol. Idk what gymnastics that one did in the background but looked like it got some air.
oh they are crazy!
About the blue tongue not climbing... Mine looked exactly like the one you're holding and given half a chance that fat bottomed boy would try to climb EVERYTHING. I had to take the decorative branches out of his enclosure because he'd get to the top where they were thin and just fall off. Also, when he was out he always wanted to climb up on the couch (but wanted off of the couch if you put him there in the first place 🤦🏻♀️). But, all my animals have had weird arse quirks, so he was probably an anomaly. 🤷🏻♀️
Fire Skinks really don't hide that much, once they are used to you being around. I see mine pretty much all day every day. Sure, they have no desire for me to handle them. But see them all the time. I just love their little faces.
I see mine all the time and two of my four are handleable as well! We just need to breed them more in captivity and work with them on handling, and they will be super friendly!
Every time you do a skink video and don't mention emerald tree skinks I die I little more inside 😭
I think they would've been a great alternative to monkey tails as they're very arboreal as well but way smaller and more social, so much better for the average keeper
hahhahaa
I have a blue tongue skink (Northern) I named Slinky because when she climbs around, she looks like one! She is captive born and loves her high-end dog food (Pure Balance). The breeder started her and the whole clutch on dog food as soon as they were born. She also likes dry dog food but prefers the canned. She's 24 inches from nose tip to tail tip and is very sweet. I have a beardie and an Uromastyx but my beardie is a brat and my Uro is a chicken! Slinky doesn't mind being held and loves to sit behind my neck and just sit there. I love them all and I would love a few dozen!!! 😊
Arisaka (Halm) loves dog food, though I serve wet. I make sure that he sees me opening the package for him.
He surprisingly hates eggs, though. I put an egg in his food once, and he just sulked. The next day, I replaced it, and he chomped it down.
One thing you should keep in mind is Peter's banded skink store actually nocturnal. Mine are very active starting around dusk and stay pretty active exploring their enclosure during the night.
Do you know anyone who has bred them yet?
Aww, the pink tongue you shared looks just like my Ruby girl ❤ she cost me an arm and a leg in hand-raised land snails (she's bougie and only loves them live) but I love her regardless 😊
I have a sandfish skink! He is called Shy Hulud! I do see him sometimes actually. He is more active around lunchtime and around dinnertime. He is usually very shy and scared, hiding in the sand. But sometimes when he goes out looking for worms, he simply can't be bothered. He'll ignore us humans as we look at him and we can enjoy the view of his yellow, glorious tubular form. He sheds more often than my other skinks, and his skin is sensitive, but veeery slippery. So his enclosure requires more thinking on my part. He is 100% instinct and 0% brain and WILL hurt himself on any sharp edge as he runs like crazy across it, looking for his worms. I love my Shy Hulud.
I keep and breed 5 lined skinks. I set up a large Rubbermaid cattle tank as an outdoor enclosure for them. I planted a bunch of different plants in the enclosure for them to make it as natural as possible. I put things like creeping phlox and creeping Charlie in the enclosure. In addition to that I also planted violets, wild strawberries, alyssum, purple deadnettle, snowdrops and dandelion in the enclosure. Most of the plants come back on their own. I keep them outside because they are native to Maryland. I have also since set my garters up in an outdoor enclosure as well.
PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO KEEP AND ESPECIALLY BREED THEM
i have been really wanting to get a pair
@@meredithfangman2898I have two females that live in the same tank, they get along fine and are doing great, the smaller one has a missing leg,but I got her that way.
Woohoo! This was like a 2-for-1 recommendations list! Very good value for money. 10/10. 😁🤪
And the monkey tail falling was priceless. 👌🤣
As always, I learned about cool animals I didnt know about!
Thanks!
I hope you enjoyed!
@@WickensWickedReptiles always!
You are the best CZcamsr ever have a super day have a great day have a nice day wicked wickens reptile
thank you so much!!
There’s no such thing as a bad skink 😅
I do love skinks!
@@WickensWickedReptiles They’re like snakes with legs
great choices! One of my top five would definitely need to be Emerald Tree Skinks though. They're such amazing reptiles.
Emerald Tree Skinks are great!
Great vlog today, have an awesome week Adam and see you again Thursday
thank you!
Great video as always
thank you!
I love crocodile skinks, I have had 5 little ones come from my pair over 2 years
I absolutely love red eyed crocodile skinks and Reptiliatus has the white eyed croc's SO ADORABLE! i also love blue tongue and pink tongue skinks
absolutely
Those Peters banded skinks are really lovely little critters- I had never heard of them! Thanks
Hi love your channel and love your tattoos
thank you so much!
I’d love to see more frog content! Especially going over the different species and differences around dart frogs
Every since Pink Tongue Skinks I started to get super addicted to skink species. I have 4 Emerald Tree Skinks now and they are SO much fun to watch, and when they trust you, they are just so much fun to interact with. You have now added more to my list xD I love the Banded ones!
Hey, have you considered making an episode on best reptiles with short lifespans (assuming you didn't already and I haven't just missed it)? That's something rarely talked about and it would be a blessing to people with an unstable living situation, plans to emigrate, etc. that still want to own a reptile. I'm a student, in a few years hoping to emigrate to a country with much stricter reptile laws, so I have been thinking the best time to own a reptile for me is now. But I don't even know anything that lives below 10 years other than chameleons
There's an interesting lady, from up yonder in Canadia, with a small yt channel who specializes in blueys and monkey tails. Yall cannucks sure do love your reptiles.
I have a pink tongue skink and he/she only eats two things, snails and slugs. I have tried everything, crickets, roaches, mealworms, superworms, locusts, wax worms, earth worms, horned worms, silk moth worms and nothing, he/she only eats snails and slugs. I have tried to scent other prey with snail slime and the skink bites down but spits it right away.
weird eh
I wouldn’t mind a fire skink or a Schneider’s skink. Fire skinks are so pretty though. They seem flighty, but that’s fine, I don’t HAVE to hold them. Probably better long-term to handle animals less, unless of course they’re social emerald tree skinks or dog-acting beardies or bluies. Lol, either way I’d treat a fire/Schneider skink more like a chameleon, as a hands-off “display only” kind of pet. Just pimp out a lush bioactive enclosure, with lots of live plants, and let the setup speak for itself.
In first minute.. Hell yea
Love the videos
wooooooo
Yyyessss SKINKS!!! I love them all!! The Peter's Banded Skinks are nocturnal though :) They cryptic bask sometimes but active at night. They're also almost impossible to find captive bred and are hard to get thriving. Love hearing my PBS group digging around at night ❤
I am all for more skink content ❤
Red-eyed crocodile skinks are the coolest! 😎
sure are!
If you ever see them.
@@joejoelesh1197 I saw some at the Show Me Reptiles expo in North Kingston, RI just 2 weekends ago!
@@excaliburexoticreptiles I more meat once they are in an appropriate enclosure.
I love my blue tongue skink! He’s such a goof
no doubt!
I had a Peter’s banded skink a few years ago, one of my favorite reptiles I’ve ever owned. Very calm, very sweet (also hilarious). The only issue with them is the lack of info on care. I’m not sure if it’s changed in the last 3 years, but I had to DIG to find anything beyond basic care for them. Luckily they’re very hardy! I plan to get another one in the future. This video was awesome!
You could always try a best and worst monitors list!
I love it
Part 2 please!
Love that your monkeytails are sliding around back there. Adopted a juvenile female last week now I gotta get her a male bc they need that
I love my Peter's Banded skinks. They're social so should be kept in a group. The problem is they are so difficult to captive breed. So far.
I love mine as well. Petey and Nubbin (Nubbin is missing a toe on his right back foot 😔). They do pretty much everything together.
I think the issue with captive breeding Peties is because they are so new to the hobby that we just haven't figured out the exact parameters they need to thrive and the proper "ambiance" for skinky lovin'. Or even how to sex them.
Yea!! You finally mentioned peter’s banded skinks. I have 2 and they are awesome!
they sure are!
Dang, I had no idea red eyes cost so much. Sheesh. That's an awful lot of money for a grubby little lizard that's gonna be hiding down in the muck all the time I 😂
I sometime rehab Blotched Blue-tongued skinks in Tasmania. They are the chillest. Even wild ones will let me handle them. I let them sit in windowsills, or walk around the floors. They are naturally quite tame. When I'm walking in my bush block, and I spot one, I generally pick it up (yes, they just let me) to bring it in and de-tick it (they get ticks in their ears, and behind their legs), before taking it back outside. It's unfortunate that they are not available outside Australia, as they are very cold adapted, and very pretty. My local variety has bright orange heads.
Part 2 please
Great video. I love skinks
I love skinks too!
Yay for pink tongue skink love! I adore mine.
Plz show your schneider skink setup!
Hey Adam can you do a video on mud puppy’s? Also I heard you’ll be at the reptile and plant expo in Toronto. I might be there!
You should make a part two
maybeeeee
YOU FINALLY TALKED PETERS BANDED SKINK!!!!!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 IVE BEEN RECOMMENDING FOREVER
Could you do a Video on Solomon island ground skink? Love the Video Btw!❤
Awesome video, per usual 💜🖤💜🖤🥰 I’ve been needing a broken down video about skinks. If you haven’t made one of these about monitors yet, I’d love you long time if you made me one 😝 lol
thank you!
Do a reptile room tour.
coming soon!
I'm looking to get my 1st skink this definitely helps!
for sure
I wanted a red eyed crocodile skink but everyone says that it's basically like having a vivarium you know a skink is in somewhere. Not for me!
Adam!! You have to tell me where to get red eyed crocodile skink..captive bred!!!!!.... I've never seen one before this video. They look amazing!!!!! Great videos!!!
Dayyan :)
You should do a Peter's Banded Skink care if there's more information about them
i actually got 3 peter's banded skinks for a project, and when you say you will see them a little more that is correct, they are lazy potatoes that will eat 2-3 business days after you put food in their enclosure rofl. slight correction tho, from what iv gathered from having my trio they actually really seem to like to climb the bark and decor in their 4x2x2 as well as to me iv noticed they are really only active at dawn and dusk rather than full on day hours, COULD be from just them still settling in considering they arnt really bred in captivity yet, but its some knowledge to consider
Fire skinks are the worst. In a burrow/tunnel under substrate 95% of the time. If it ever comes out and you simply walk by, they dart away immediately.
Any chance of you doing an updated, in depth care guide for BTS? Last one I believe was 3 years ago, not sure if much has changed. Or maybe just how you set up Irwins enclosure
Five line skinks! Everywhere in Missouri. Blue tail. Super fast though.
I'm more of a snake guy, but I'd love to have a pair of monkey tail skinks one day when I have the space. I'd even love a red eyed crocodile skink. Thanks for making these videos Adam and anyone reading this JOIN THE DISCORD!!!! It's so great for quality information and you can ask any question about husbandry without judgement.
I’m a big fan after watching you I finally decided to pull the trigger and get a blue tongue Skink but instead of having a great new pet I was scammed out of 300 from someone on Facebook but instead of dragging around being sad I wanted to let people know to watch out for scammers in the hobby I was scammed by Selling and Rehoming Blue Tongue Skinks on Facebook but I’m sure it’s more than that 1 out there can please warn people and tell them ways to avoid scammers thanks love your content
Can you make a giant day gecko care guide
I got mine from a friend, wasn't held at all, I used the snake tame method. Now she's the calm chill lizard 🦎
Emerald Green tree skinks are like little dolphins , so smart and not skittish
Saluwesi Water Skinks
for sure!
If you hear of any CB Schneiders PLEASE do tell!
Great channel.
I was told that monkey tails arent very food motivated but they are sun motivated like training that leads to them getting to bask (i have a friend who puts both of his on leashes and they sit on his patio but only if the leashes go on)
Immediately triggered by title 😂 love my bts and want more different skinks. Great video Adam ❤
I don't think I'd heard of sand fish skinks before. Interesting, though the fact that they hide in the sand does sound like a bit of a not so awesome thing if you want a pet you can see regularly. Red Eyed Crocodile skinks look like pretty cool. Nice list overall! :)
4:35 lol can I feed em the ramshorn snails from my aquarium?
Can you make a care guide on pink tongue skinks?
My fiancé and I have and/or had almost every skink in this video lol. We have a few red eye croc skinks that we’ve gotten 3 babies from. The breeding pair is approaching 13 years old. We have two blue tongue skinks, and we have 4 monkey tail skinks. We had both peters banded and Schneider skinks as well, but we have rehomed them. I love them all, skinks are awesome!
Green tree skinks are pretty cool little skinks
Banded skinks look like if a Skink and a Leopard Gecko had a baby 😆😍
I had a fire skink for years. I loved it, but you're so right it always hid from me. When I'd find it and held it , it would bite me and try to tip off skin buy doing an alligator death roll. That always hurt. But it was so pretty. Do not recommend unless you got gloves
I just caught a black and gold stripped one, and it has a pink tongue. He/She is so adorable.
That monkey tailed skink was on the roof and fell.
First off, when I heard they were arboreal but dang, and second off, *HOW*
You did not offer substitutes for the last two, with one being the emerald tree skink. I doubt there is another captive bred choice.
That being said,my other favorite skinks are five lined skinks and broad headed skinks. I have had amazingly interesting interactions with broad headed skinks in the wild (back porch steps where I used to live) and if they were allowed to be captive bred, personality wise,I think they would be like a cross between a snyder and a pink tongue.I think follow up on skinks would be good as they are not discussed as much impo.
Hey Adam , are you planning on breeding your Schneiders Skinks ?
Man, It seems like skinks are just great pets as a rule lol.
They are pretty great!
You should do a video on what reptiles can live in 12x12x18 enclosures:)
I did, the 10 gallon videos cover vertical enclosures
As warm as you keep your reptile room, have you thought of growing veggies in there?
Don't underestimate the climbing abilities of our legged potatoes! Ours has learned to use the gap between the night table and wall to squeeze his way to the top, and from there gets into our bed. Heck we are still trying to figure out how he manages to get onto the sofa every now and then...
White eyed croc Skinks are amazing!! I've been breeding them for a couple years. Maybe some day I'll sell some of the babies. Until then they'll remain a very happy family who all look out for each other.
Please find the time to do a video on Glassed Tail Lizard/Glass lizard
i think skinks look cool
on my bucket list
they are all great!
You should do a video on white lined geckos
Can we do a crested gecko video about your personal collection
Schneider skinks are criminally underrated.
I keep my 2 in an augmented 3x3x1 display case with a substrate similar to ABG mix but it retains moisture way less and just got some drought tolerant springtails + isos and just threw a few spinless cacti and reptile safe succulents in there. 1 year later they're still healthy and it smells wonderfull.
TLDR; you can 100% do Schneider skinks in a bioactive enclosure.
I love Schneider’s skinks
Peter's banded skinks are adorable and, from what I've heard, are very good pets. But I've also heard there's a lot of issues with breeding them in captivity, so i wouldn't recommend getting one until people start getting a steady amount of captive bred individuals produced.
Are you coming to the expo in Californa I think it's in fresno on June 2rd and 4th
3rd
Ugh i'm wanting to grab a group of Peters and try breeding. Only a few ppl have managed to do it. We need to get them breeding so we can stop the wild caught, that's how you start though. I love them. I recommend any rookies not get them until they become captive bred, but we need capable ppl to work out it. I recommend proper treatment when you get them unless the importer, or seller already has.
I have a pink tongue skink, they are more crepuscular than diurnal
I absolutely read the title wrong. I thought it said worst stinks like the stinkiest reptiles lol
Great video, but you really missed the "5 skinks that STINK" title opportunity.
I have a pair of sand fish, the only time I see them is when they come up to grab roaches
Micro reptiles next :0???
as a peters banded skink owner i can confirm that i like never see them
4:00 monkeytail bungee jumping
Where is best for info on jeweled Lacerta thank you
There was a blue tongue skink at a rescue I wanted to get, but I didn't have enough money at the time.
wild eh!
