Honestly I think the project really prepared us! I think we have a really strong "one step at a time" persistence that grew from the walks. And we are obviously very used to being in each others' company all the time as well. But it's been really hard not being able to get out of Dublin for most of the year. When we moved in, we'd intended it to be a "base" for lots of hiking, but we ended up spending _way_ more time there than we ever expected! We've actually just moved out to the countryside after a lot of back-and-forth about it, and I think we're both feeling a lot better for it. Ellie and I both can't wait to get back out on the hills as soon as it's a safe thing to do. How have you been doing?
Thanks for your lovely videos, so helpful to know what the trails will be like. I'm looking for an 8 day trail that will get me away from the sounds of traffic-- I live in the city and really need a break from traffic noise. I know that the Kerry Way shadows the N70, but in your video it looks quite remote. I'm fine with coming across the road here and there, but I'm just wondering if you would say that the Kerry Way is insulated from the road and it's noise most of the time?

Oh no!! I think we get this right in other videos but we script the three minute trail ones, and it's sometimes different to read off the script... Sorry about that and thanks for letting us know!
Stealth or wild camping in Ireland is something you can do! It just depends on a couple of things - the vast majority of land in Ireland is privately owned, so whether people are welcome to camping is often one of the big things. In areas like Kerry it can be hard to find places to camp just because it is one of the most popular places in the country and therefore often busy. But you might find that because people do walk the trail and ask about camping, there might be a pub that if you ask lets you camp out the back. The Leave No Trace Principles are the guidelines for outdoor recreation here too, so just making sure to follow those when out! 😊

Wow, this is such an interesting blog. Hiking in the US is so very different. (Which makes me glad you recommended the blog!) On the Appalachian Trail you can camp pretty much anywhere (other than a few areas where there are fragile environments) along the 2200 mile hike. On the PCT there are places in the Sierra and in WA State where you will be a hundred or more miles from the nearest road. To hear you are likely within 4ish miles from a road in Ireland most of the time seems strange. Still looking forward to coming over and hiking in Ireland though! Just gotta get the CDT done first so only about 3000 miles to do first. haha Thanks again!
