      @@zaiil it is. T1 had a FFA showmatch in WC3 that was commentated by Grubby and Soda. At the end he challenged Soda for a match for all the trash talking he had done while the showmatch :D

      I'm checking Soda's channel day by day and it's still no wc3 except cutom games. =( He's practicing hiddenly or the winer is defined before the firrst game started. Even in chess where you don't need mechanic skill all coaches says that the first thing you need to learn how to play is to play, theory is useless without every day practice.

    God this is so relatable. I had to coach a new player on a turn based game and I could practically feel him being overwhelmed by stuff happening too fast. In RTS it's even more insane. Props to Grubby for being a great coach but also being the best student from what I could see on his DotA2 streams/vids!

      @sprintstothebathroomdaily2429 Před 23 dny +4

      Especially in an older game.
      I just came back to sc2 after years. I peaked at high diamond. Anyone new basically runs into players who've played a decade+
      Even if they're gold thats a gold player who's played a long time so good luck. Similar to league of Legends imo. Impossible for new players to have a positive experience

    • @danielvereb4579
      @danielvereb4579 Před 23 dny

      @@sprintstothebathroomdaily2429 Yeah just look at what happened even in Classic WoW. There are players who have been playing on vanilla private servers for decades. As soon as Classic launched, Molten Core was cleared in the first week or so. Personally my worst experience was with Valorant. I play PUBG, CS:GO I am not too bad, get some good shots and games. Valorant was insane. Either I was getting the top tier players, my net was slower or they were all cheaters. As soon as I peak im dead, no matter what. Insta kill headshot in less than a second. No reaction time. Then I had a game which was what you would expect. Decent back and forth, not too crazy. But that took 20 games of hell. Not recommended. WTF. CS GO aimhackers I can kill easier than this.

  • @TheRealXartaX
    @TheRealXartaX Před 23 dny +9

    The surround coaching was really good. I kept saying to myself that you missed something (use move command to surround, use more units to make it easier, etc.) then you immediately brought it up. The only thing that was lacking really was explaining how to force surrounds combined with CC (storm bolt, sleep, nova/slows to a lesser degree, etc.). If you're going to do this coaching again I'd ask them to train Dreadlord for this specifically.
    Also it's a good idea to bind lich + ranged units to it's own control group so you can just click the group to focus fire / attack move without interfering with things like aboms. Way faster/easier than box selecting. Although you still need box selecting for things like making openings for pullbacks of course.

    I think I'd explain surrounds like this:
    Units move as if they're on a square grid and cannot move diagonally. If you block a unit on the top, bottom, left, and right, then it cannot escape because all of its sides are blocked.

    • @SolusBatty

And seeing a professional gamer struggle to learn things Grubby just does without even thinking about them is a good display of how demanding high level WC3 play is.

    In wc3 units are like squares. The game checks whether the squares collide by checking if the squares overlap horizontally or vertically. A unit can only go NW if it can both go N and W. So if you have units at NES and W, you are done and a unit is surrounded. But if you have units at NE, SE etc, chances are you are not covering one of NES and W, as a unit can only cover one side of another unit and it's pretty much random which side a unit covers (N or E) if it's next to another unit diagonally (NE). Also a unit that is next to another diagonally only barely blocks one of the directions, so if there's slight gap then it doesn't contribute to the surround.
    That's why you always want to make sure you cover all four of NES and W, with at least 4 units, and if you have 4 units they must therefore be in the shape of a diamond

    one good trick for soda would be to put the statue in a different control group and just let it follow the heros. it wont attack and if he has 2 they will auto cast heal and mana when needed. so he doesnt focus fire with them, cause they deal nearly no dmg. i usually do one caster control group and one melee/range controll group.

      @rokerpfi Před 23 dny

      @@TheRealXartaX I did some maths and getting the full effect is obviously the goal to maximise efficiency, but if you only look at "is it better to salve or produce or unit", it only takes 13 second on healing on a grunt for it to be more gold efficient than creating another grunt, unless my math is wrong. So even if you lose the effect, as long as it's after 13 seconds (roughly 115 healing), it's worth it.

    Grubby and every coach need to assume that new players have no game knowledge.. Saying just "get a nerubian" isn't a good way of saying "upgrade your ziggurat to a nerubian tower so you have some base defense against early aggression".
    Same as "go to the shop", even I didn't know where the shop was on this map.

    Its crazy how mad i get at myself for missing things throughout a game. Then i watch this and realize the bazillion things i do by second nature that doesnt feel like a part of macro/micro but is.

    This is actually very useful and helpful. Thank you so much for uploading this. Out of curiosity, do you still coach in general?

    I think you should have added Sodapoppin in the thumbnail, instead of the guy on the left side! Great content anyway, doing a good deed once again Grubby

    I feel that guy as I suck at w3, but in this case Grubby explains everything sooo precisely, now I know why I suck (sometimes)
