My favorite way to train is using the Elite QM rollers. After the first 10 minutes of anxious attempts, settled in with the RELAXed grip. Also, setting up next to a wall is preferable to me as it gives you the ability to flick an elbow out to maintain balance. Finally, using Zwift or any other video source, remember to "look away" from the screen during turns or your natural tendency to "lean into" the curve will throw you off.

I think the most important 3 tips, two of which you covered and you covered all 3 in an older GCN vid. 1 relax and don't grip the bars too tight. 2 look at a point in front while learning and 3. keep pressure on the pedals like riding a velodrome.

Even without extra resistance you get a good workout on rollers because you have to work at balance so your core muscles are involved as well.

If you want to learn how to ride in as straight a line as you can, ride on rollers. I can ride in a line that is about 9 cm's at the widest. Some people can ride in a line the width of their tires. The only problem with rollers is that their isn't much resistance, so, I ride in the highest gear possible and use that as my resistance..

Great job GCN. After 40 years of riding the rollers I appreciate how they smooth out my pedal stroke! After watching some of your videos I am left wondering if that ( a smooth pedal stroke) is a needed skill or not? Using my power meter it seems that I top out at around 400+ watts on the rollers, highest gear, fast cadence. So, they are not a power development tool. Balance, steady state training, even pedal stroke, the rollers are the tool for that!

Davide Nidoli For the first month, you will likely be so focused on learning to be stable and still that workouts won’t even enter your mind. 30 minutes on the rollers will leave you so wiped out you will feel as if you have just completed a 2 1/2 hour interval session on the trainer. But you will have used your core so much more. Once you’ve mastered riding on them smoothly, you will have to learn to ride standing as if climbing, then eventually standing sprints. Then you will be able to do all of the same workouts that you could do on your trainer. Hint, when you are new, try warming up for about five to ten minutes on your stationary trainer to get the blood flowing well, then fold that puppy up and get onto the rollers.

You don't need added resistance to train. High cadence intervals of all types develops smoothness, confidence and aero capacity. Then do weight sessions for strength. Also (FOR TRAINED PROFESSIONALS ONLY), after your roller session use the optional six pack cool down device.

A straight line between your dropouts is correct for the distance between the front roller and the distance between the rear two. I have my rear rollers about 10 inches (25 cm) apart from each other though I have never heard of a "correct" distance for this. It (the 10 inch separation) seems to work fine for me!

Adamir Ado because some rollers naturally have movement in them. So if you had your front wheel fixed and your back wheel moving the natural rocking motion of the roller frame would be forcing and pushing on your front wheel.

That is true until Mike's wife wanted to join him. She is interested in training but not Crazy like Mike. So Mr Coglione is looking for alternatives that aren't pricey or a Peloton to exploit her enthusiasm so when she joins him riding this year as the weather improves he is not going to have to get off and walk his bike to avoid risk of leaving her behind.

DynamicSines Records/ Music The whole purpose of roller training is not for the device to stabilize your bike, it is for you to use your core to stabilize the bike, fine tune your balance, and improve your technique. Don’t even bother with the parabolic rollers. Just get the flattest, most true rollers you can find, and jump into the deep end. No need to reinforce your weaknesses. Kreitlers are still the best.
