- Terra Nil Part 5 - the second half of this game is genuinely incredible! I was expecting zero replay value, but it turns out that doing a harder difficulty that takes advantage of obscure mechanics is a great time. Can't wait to see what the other scenarios are like!

The strat where he makes a single tile of fynbos on a different height to start a burn is actually huge brain

it's more of a strategy game really
it was always a relaxation game, there isn't enough friction to count it as a proper puzzle until you get to these difficulty levels
Note: the last map doesn't spawn as always solvable, with the most prominent issue with it being something that devs know about but the person responsible for coding it was out with Covid last I checked, so it'll be a hot minute before it's fixed
There is a hint if you reload a map many times that says sometimes a map can be created unsolvable but it should be rare
@@gosera-1108 They've got code that's supposed to adjust the required tiles of biome to make it solvable, but that's the stuff that they've got issues with and the programmer who initially wrote it is out sick.
Also, the one that is actually a common issue is the heliocage in irradiated sprawl as you cannot build more land and are limited in locations to build it.
Funny how you did better on ADVANCED environmental engineer than the normal environment engineer. Just goes to show that your puzzle solving skills scale up to the puzzle haha

@@Tommuli_Haudankaivaja what? No, definitely not, u have to do so much more and have to find a way to make a controlled burn, etc. The normal mode is just placing buildings trying to cover as much area as possible.
@@katehox Rain is so easy to get on the Abandoned Quarry, after which you have basically won.
But I speedrun getting 100% on the planet on Environmental Engineer difficulty for fun, so my perspective might be skewed.
Probably because he learned a lot from playing. Last time he was new to the game.

It's awesome to hear that you're enjoying the alternate maps! This game doesn't seem that long, so it's good to know that the "post-game" holds up as quality content.

Same. I got tired of waiting for Tyler so I just went and did the extra levels. They're so hard but so good.
This seems like a level of challenge that the basic levels were sorely missing! I'm suddenly more interested in Terra Nil. Good video!

These edits, man.. im loving the random cutaways but i have NO idea how the editor comes up with them lmao
I loved that level. You are confused what the lava is for, because you can’t use thermal energy, but then you realise that it’s to create rocks by flooding the lava with water pumps.
And then the dry grass to start a burn to get the forest to get fynbos, just because you don’t have trees initially like on the first level.
I had a lot of fun rushing rain on this map. I used the detenator to make bigger rivers for better humidifiers, but had to restart due to not having enough lowland for the wetlands.
Too much fun
This series is hands down one of my favorites. A real puzzle but also so relaxing

One of the many things I've learned from this channel is that the word Advanced is underrated
This game hits just right. Such a satisfying concept
I really like how the remixes of each map change out some of the core mechanics. I would have liked to see new biomes and mechanics but what we got is still cool.

Tyler almost lost by going for big forests, not realizing that you have to interleave flowers and forests on different sectors.
I wasn't really on board with this game on the very first episode, but the harder and more convoluted it gets the more fun it is to watch
I'm gonna be real, the Quarry is definitely the most demanding of the advanced maps. The others still have some interesting mechanics going for them though.

I'd say the Abandoned Quarry is the hardest challenge. It's the only one where you have to big-brain one of the biomes.

I think the first advanced level is the most difficult - the only one I didn't beat on 130% building cost. (I used the "can recycle when out of money" option, it's very nice because it just lets me continue enjoying the level instead of needing to restart)
The rusty lake series is a very interesting series of games and you should play them, from the first to the latest.

I recommend burning he forest areas after they are made and then beehive on regrown grass, burned trees still count for the beehives
