    Correct me if I'm wrong but a thief wouldn't worry about stealing the camera, they can just cut the power cable and go on robbing the house.

      I'm confused?! So are you going to just install it on a power outlet outside and call it a day? I hope you install it a little more stealthier or really high in our home . Hope everyone is remembering that you shouldn't just have a single camera as a security system. Where I stay at I have a fence a driveway ringer that detects motion and a dog that will bark and a couple retired neighbors that are always on there porch . Saying that ,I wouldn't be worried of a thief just cutting the cable . How the fuck would he be able to? Unless he hops the fence, poisons my dogs gets the annoying neighbors while they're asleep . I don't think I'm worried about a cable lol

    • @JohnFX3
      @JohnFX3 Před 7 lety +2

      Depends on what kind of thief you're worried about. If you're worried about someone stealing a package off your porch, that kind of thief works quickly and isn't going to try to sabotage the camera. They either don't care about the camera, don't notice it, or if it do see it, they'll turn around. The other kind of thief is where you need to put more effort (and money) into your surveillance setup: The kind of thief who would steal the camera, or break into your house to steal your belongings. In that case a proper system has more than one camera, often many cameras, so that any thief who tries to tamper with one will be seen by another. This camera has rather strong theft deterrent in the cabling. Since the cable is attached to the camera, it cannot be easily replaced and the value of the camera depends on the cabling being intact. Having to remove 25 feet of cabling running who knows where and properly secured along the way is not something a thief is likely going to do.
      That being said, the achilles heal of all of these modern home-use surveillance systems is that the cameras are all wifi. Any dedicated thief could quite easily walk around with a powerful wifi jammer and kill the signal from all of your cameras before they get into view.
      Basically, wifi camera setups are meant for mid range home use: peace of mind, mild theft deterrent, and getting dirt on your neighbors to prove that their dog is, in fact, constantly taking a dump in your yard. If you're legitimately concerned about theft and break ins you will want to invest in a hard-wired multi-camera setup.

    • @GamerRusith
      @GamerRusith Před 7 lety

      It would but if the thief is smart enough to cut the part of the wire that is not in view of the camera you're screwed.

    I know this video is 6 years old but as an owner of several of these Nest cam outdoor security cameras i can honestly day that even today in April of 2023 it is still one of the best nest cams besides the IQ Outsoor rhat just has a bit better resolution when you zoom in digitally vs the newer google nest cameras that google chose to reduce in quality and remove features from. I wish nest would have never sold their franchise to google as nest took the time to make a goog product. Now, with google, not so much. I got their indoor cams and the google home app sucks with the camera and if the camera doea NOT detect something happening as an "event" even if it clearly was, you cant save the video clip. Vs nest where you can save any moment but still highlights events and people passing by etc. Thank you for making this video.

    No use in UK unless you want to drill through the entire depth of your brick house. Alternatively you need an outside power source or go through the loft into a spur from a socket source from upstairs which will need an electrician to be done safely for insurance purposes. I believe fitting a spur to an existing socket can be done without an electrician according to part 17 of the regulations, however check with home insurance. I have one of these in my garden powered from an outbuilding and it is good. Using CCTV to prove that Royal Mail lied about a delivery as we speak, looks like their employee decided to keep our parcel.

    Nice accessories but a magnetic mounting for outdoor wouldn't be unsafe cause that can be removed easily? Also I saw the vent they reserve for mic & speaker, and the camera seems to be mounted under ceiling only. Is it literally IP65 or IP66 weatherproof?

  • @CescoCDN

    As always, great walkthrough and explanation, Mike.
    2 points:
    -The cable exiting the cam is bent pretty severely under the eave. Would this kink cause problems over time?
    -You mention plugging it in an exterior plug outlet ( 00:02:00 mark ) wouldn't this defeat security if one could simple "yank the cord"? :)
    I may actually get this as an interior cam to set up in my dad's room at the longterm care residence.

    as usual, a great review. We are naturally concerned when these different companies send you the equipment free and sponsor the video. Please do a video comparing the nest outdoor Cam and the ring outdoor stick up camera. The impression I get is that the nest camera does a better job and the cloud solution is better, but the Cloud solution is quite expensive. The Nest cam has to be hardwired, and while the ring cam is battery powered, the battery still has very short life despite what they say and you need to power it with AC power or solar panel. Please do a comparison review.

    Curious to see how the Nest camera well last after a year of weather conditions. Right now I have 8 HD-TVI Dome Cameras that are 1080p, 4 megapixel that record on a 16 channel DVR with 2TB of storage. Before my current setup I had a Q-See camera system that bought at Costco. However, the camera's weren't Dome Surveillance proof and the camera's only last 14 months.

    My cameras are mounted 10 feet up and work great. Now you might find a ladder and climb up to pull them off, or cut the cable, but the camera will have already alerted me on my cell telephone, and when I vew the alert, I will be on the telephone to the police. My ADT cameras will pick you up from the inside windows next to the cameras I have an alarm system inside the house, doors and windows, with ADT monitoring that has a back up battery system in case of power failure). Years ago I did have a break in, and only damage I had was an over turned chair just inside the back door where they were in a hurry to get away from the screaming alarm up on the third floor eve. They made it to their car, but neighbors had tag number and description, and they were apprehended before they could get out of town. The cameras let me know who is outside at night, and gives me footage of who was around, when not at home. I get an alert on my cell telephone if you step onto my property from any angle, and I can get you, before you can get the camera..and the police will be on their way. So when I set the outside alarm off remotely, and you have your hoodie on, you will be scrambling to get out of a neighborhood, where about everyone is armed, and just looking for a burglar or package thief. The point is that some of the comments miss}, set your cameras up out of reach, so they will alert you before anyone can reach them, and try not to run cables through outside blind spots.

    Mike, I’ve been looking into getting security cameras for the last year or two. I’ve sorta settled on Ring or Nest, but I’m not sure which one to go with. I realize that you have tested both brands so I’d like to know which one you prefer. I like the Nest thermostat also so if I went with Nest I could see adding that to the eco system. I also really like Ring’s floodlight camera setup. So I’m a little unsure which way to go and respect your thoughts greatly! I would appreciate any help! Thanks!
