  • A clean bike is a happy bike. Give your AXS drivetrain the routine and proper cleaning it deserves:
    1. Remove the AXS batteries and install the battery blocks before cleaning.
    2. Use a damp cloth to wipe off any dirt and debris.
    4. Clean the components with soap and water only.
    5. Rinse thoroughly with water and allow the parts to dry.
    6. Lubricate the chain.

this shows how to clean a clean drive train, if it was dirty, it will still be after such a cleaning

Amazing job! The bike looks brand new after that cleanup!

this is too simplified. You have to clean the chain and cassette too. It’s not as simple as just scrubbing the outside of the derailleur and crank with soap.
I know this video is mainly to show what you should do with AXS batteries while cleaning but it would be better if you had a quick more accurate representation of cleaning an AXS drivetrain.
And the bike you’re cleaning is brand new.

Thanks for the feedback. While this video is meant to cover the very basics, our SRAM Tech friends made a video for a deeper dive on cleaning: czcams.com/video/pkVtQ-rt3Qk/video.html

I think this video should be remade pronto. You used the same brush on the frame and cassette and chain. Heck no, dont do that! Everyone knows you use different brushes for the drivetrain than the frame and other parts of the bike!

I think you set the bar too high with that dirty bike, next time don't bring a bike that just came back from a 200-mile mudfest gravel race so the end result comes out cleaner!

This is a great video But it is kinda troubling that in 2023 we are still using the now 100 year old concept of using a derailleur to change gears on a bike !! You could drag out a 1955 bike and the basic drive train is pretty much the same !! Still using a front and rear derailleur !! In my over thirty odd years of cycling a modern derailleur is just as fragile, just as prone to collecting dust and grime ,just as exposed and vulnerable to getting broken as it was back then!! Basically I find them an A grade pain in the ass!! Must be something better out there?

Hub gears and integrated gears for example, but they are too heavy for road bikes. Sometimes simple is just better. Electric shifting on cycles is already a great step imho.

Alternatives have been available for a long time, just look for Sturmey-Archer , Rohloff Speedhub, Shimano Nexus, Shimano Alfine, etc. Geared hubs, however, are much more expensive than derailleurs, and a real pain to service. You can't easily change the gearing (vs simply swapping a cassette) and they lock you to an specific set of wheels. In this case, tried and true works a lot better. In my book, even electronic shifting is nothing but a nice to have. I like my bikes simple, easy to service and always ready to go.
