    The size of Turner Field had nothing to do as to why the Braves left. They wanted to develop the land around it, and Turner needed upgrades...the Braves tried to buy it all from the city and were rejected. The team bought the land up in Cobb County (right in the middle of the fan base), developed The Battery and sells Truist out for almost every game.

      Exactly. Summerhill is doing phenomenal now that the braves left though. It's for young professionals not baseball fans. Glad it is doing well, and I am happier for the Braves situation

      I was abt to comment this but you beat me to it. The Braves wanted the battery but for turner but the city refused so instead the Braves took it to Cobb county and now you have truist park.

    Ended the video by not discussing the LA Coliseum. Hosted the Olympics, the World Series, and the All Star Game. Its omission is glaring to this list.

    Rogers Centre / Skydome was also part of a bid for 1996. Toronto was 3rd in the IOC vote.

    The tower for the Olympic stadium never had a hotel and the tower was never intended to have a hotel. The office space of the tower was supposed to house the administrative bodies of amateur sports in the province.

    What time does the Mets game start today? Oh, it's rained out, because of no roof.

  • @tklalmighty
    @tklalmighty Před 3 měsíci +3

    Mets Olympic Stadium was never the preferred venue for the Olympic athletics competition. West Side was. They only pivoted to the Mets, really late in the game, when MSG successfully killed the West Side Stadium idea.
    There really is no difference between Citi Field today and what it would've been today had it first hosted the Olympics, save for maybe the seating angle down the left field line. Kinda silly to say that it wouldn't last as long.

      Wasn't Shea Stadium once envisioned as an Olympic stadium, with capacity increased to 90,000 by closing the circle? It was also intended to get a dome.

    • @tklalmighty
      @tklalmighty Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@gregsells8549 it was designed to be expanded, but there's no way the field was large enough to fit an Olympic-sized track. Could possibly have been a good venue for soccer matches, but Giants / MetLife Stadiums would've taken precedence. IIRC, for the 2012 bid, Shea wasn't slated for anything - baseball and softball were slated for Yankee Stadium and Staten Island, respectively.

    What destroyed the Montreal Expos was that in 1995, after having an amazing 1994 season, the owners decided to gut the team in 3 days, getting rid of Larry Walker, Marquis Grissom, John Wettland and Ken Hill. If they had kept that team together, they would have won a lot and a new stadium would have come out of that. Going to baseball games in the 90s was fun, and during the 1994 season, I remember there being 35,000 people on weekdays and 50,000 on weekends. All they had to do was keep the team together and Montreal would still have a baseball team and a new stadium. Ownership just did everything backwards. People stopped going to games after they destroyed the team. I didn't go to many games after that. It was too depressing. The team was a shell of what they had been in 1994.
    It would cost taxpayers $500 billion dollars to tear down Olympic stadium, so they're deciding to keep it. If Montreal somehow gets a chance to get a baseball team again, they really need a new outdoor ballpark. People can just wear winter coats in April. It's not really that big a deal. In terms of Jarry Park, it was before my time, but I heard that it was a great place to watch a baseball game.

      If the strike hadn't happened they probably would have won the division in 1994, considering that the Braves were back around eight games or so from them. With a division championship, there'd have been even greater interest and who knows what the future would have held.

    The Braves left maybe a little early. But I suppose the city or country got it's moneys worth. A lot of stadiums for the Olympics just get used for the games. Turner Field has had a lot of different life's in it's relatively short life.

    The Mets could use a retraceable roof because they get more rain outs than anyone else.

  • @theoneandonlysctbonecrushe6996

    I think you should actually go back and do more research The trust stadium is only 7,000 less then what Turner Field was Turner Field capacity was 48,000 trust stadium capacity is 41,000 also it lasted 20 years so don't get what your point is the braves went to develop around the stadium that's one reason they wanted a new stadium also even though it had only been 20 years old technology-wise it was not fitted to continue to go forward but if you know nothing about the 96 Olympics you never would have knew that stadium had another purpose it was great for the braves the 20 years they was there I went to my first braves game in 1996 I went to my second braves game in 1998 my first game I went to they had a sign up that was electronic that said Turner Field future home in Atlanta braves starting in 1997 our current stadium has been great to us as well

    In a way, I don’t really miss Turner Field, but I LOVE Truist Park, that’s a BEAUTIFUL ballpark, along with the Battery Atlanta, and a hotel practically at the ballpark, and other things to do around the ballpark in the vicinity,

    Technically you can add in Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium and Dodger stadium.. they both hosted Olympic baseball... and I think this is the only similarity between Dodger stadium and a HORRIBLE multipurpose stadium, good riddance to the former!

    • @MrGregorSF
      @MrGregorSF Před 3 měsíci

      “Built to host the Olympics and became an MLB stadium.” Neither Fulton County or Dodger stadium were build for the Olympics.

    • @MrGregorSF
      @MrGregorSF Před 3 měsíci

      Neither fit the criteria he said at the beginning, “built for the Olympics then became MLB stadium.”

    Just drove down I-75 through Atlanta last week. I gotta say, Turner Field looks way better than Truist does. I understand the reasons why the Braves left for Cobb County, but looks wise, way better than Truist.
