Damn I remember reading this manga years ago but basically for what I remembered, they were all friends and yeah Paul did assault Lilia which was hella messed up because they were good friends and I think fighting partners I can be wrong and after a while she had heard that Paul married his wife and she kinda developed some time of twisted feelings throughout the years and was in love with him, even though she knew it was wrong because of what he did to her, but knew he had a wife and a son but since she knew she could never be with him she decided to become their maid especially since that meant she would always be with Paul and serve him until the end. As for the whole cheating thing yeah basically she had a lot of lust and knew the scrum Paul was so decided to take advantage with him. I mean payback I guess but she never thought sheâd be pregnant and was hella scared because she admires his wife and loves her so much like family and has so much respect for her that she didnât want to hurt her the way she did. But no spoilers of what happens to their dynamic but honestly my whole thing was that I hella wanted Lilia and Paulâs wife to get together and raise their kids together and kick him out LMAO that man is freakin terrible đđ heâs a freakin d*ck man

Idk if yall already know but Paul follows a religion that practices polygamy, while zenith is just monogamy, which is why it wasn't "as" bad as it would be in real life and why she was able to forgive him easier.
Even if it wasn't faith based, it is (and becomes more) obvious over time that this behavior is not at all unexpected. Apparently, committing to a marriage was actually the out of place decision for him.
She also knew what he was like before they got married. He used to try and seduce every woman he met. He seduced Lydia, he seduced Ghislaine. But because Zenith's religion said that you should only have sex with the one person you are married to, when he tried to seduced Zenith she said "only if you agree to marry me".

What Paul did to Lilia is even worse if you know the details. After Paul ran away from home, he ended up in a dojo owned by Lilia's father. Lilia was a beautiful and talented swordswoman so everybody adored her. On the other hand, Paul was a talented outsider who became favored by the dojo master. Lilia was showing interest in him too. Envy and jealousy drove the other desciples to collectively make things difficult for Paul. Paul eventually got fed up and decided to leave but he couldn't leave without taking revenge on the desciples. He decided that the best revenge would be to defile the flower that all the disciples worshipped. So he sneaked into Lilia's room and got on top of her. Lilia resisted at first but Paul eventually convinced her with sweet nothings and empty promises. He then left before Lilia woke up the following morning.
So basically, Lilia was a victim of Paul's revenge sex.
But they continued to have sex. Having revenge sex that one time, she wouldnât been had a baby

That's how Rudy was conceived, and how their party of adventurers wound up breaking apart- Paul took all the blame in the eyes of the rest of their group, besides the guy who'd helped Zenith spike Paul's drink (but still never told anyone about it), and it wound up being the straw that broke the camel's back.
And it's also why absolutely none of the old party members, upon meeting Rudy, are the slightest bit surprised by his perverted streak, or his tendency toward underhanded methods- to them, he's just exactly as they'd expect his parents' son to be.

I think Rudeus figured out he did something wrong as soon as he did it, so he didn't bother trying to justify it to Paul. Although maybe he shouldn't of told Sylphy he mistook her for a boy, since at that point they had been hanging out for a while, or at leased phrased it better.
It seems unlikely that Rudeus was getting revenge on his father, since he mentally apologies to him right after and said he'd make it up to him later. Basically he threw Paul under the bus to save Lilia and her unborn child.

I like this show because it's characters are grey. Isekai are often so black and white, characters are either good or evil with very little in-between. It really surprised me how refreshingly good this show was even though it is the grandfather to so many other Isekai. I guess some are simply cheap imitations of the original.

There have been many moments like that in the original novel; I heard that the authot got a lot bad response from the readers but somehow managed to finish the series as he wanted anyway. Makes sense, it is just fiction, does not represent what's good or bad in reality and the series became super popular, successful and a model for future successful series.
I remember somewhere someone said it was actually a mistranslation of the subtitles and it wasn't without consent. But that comment could be wrong and Paul is still a fool anyway LOL

One thing I'm a little sad they skipped out on is the religions the parents follow. There's groups that allow polygamy and those focused on devoting yourself to one person. It brings the whole world-building side as well as the situation a bit more light.

No religion in that world "practices "polygamy," like I saw commented. It's just that that nobility may often accept mistresses or multiple partners/wives because they want their bloodline to continue, and turns out, there are fucking monsters and gods chilling there. Likely, you gonna die early.
The problem is that Zenith's faith ONLY values monogamy, and Paul def knew that, as well as Lilia.

Also worth mentioning, if you look at the situation and think about it, Rudeus was (unintentionally, without realizing it) child-grooming Sylphie. Even more so, given that he's essentially a 40-something year old man in a 6yo's body...
