  • Rescue and recovery efforts continue at the site of the George building collapse. It's been a week since the multi-storey building under construction imploded.
Twenty-eight people are still unaccounted for, while 13 people are in hospital.
Eighty-one people were on site when the building collapsed last Monday.
Forensic Pathology Services Assistant Director, Floyd Herwels says efforts in identifying the deceased are being fast-tracked to provide closure to family and friends. He says while some of the deceased have been identified, DNA testing, fingerprinting and other methods are being used to identify others.
SABC News reporter Tanya Krause is in George and joins us live.

What caused the building to "implode"?
    Did it not collapse?
Where are the civil engineers? They would be able to clarify.

Beautifully said Sir... Correct...As a South African I agree, before nationality, it's human being...
Been seeing horrible, heartless comments about why foreigners employed..when at this stage we should rather be focusing on the human aspect of that life lost or trapped.
The accountability and questions of employing foreigners without proper documentation and to cut costs can be delved into at a later stage with this tragedy

We can have both conversation , simultaneously. Its important to know who recruited? Is nepotism involvef in hiring foreigners? Were they brought into the Country to work on this construction. project ? This does not concern only the government and its Institutions, the People, the Citizens do need answers in tackling the unemployment problem..Tighten up the loose ends!

@@pennygooms1539 Think I'm empathetic and feel peopkes emotions strongly so I'm more inclined to focus in the human aspect...I've been following this very closely and to see the emotions of everyone involved including rescuers makes you remember that we are all human and need to be treated as we are important and not just an employee ir statistic

      @@Arti-ficiallyChi Human aspect?
Fighting and eliminating poverty , employment falls precisely under the Socio- Economic Rights of South African Citizens that must not to be be trampled on, or denied , no whatever the circumstances. Empathy does not function as not a gag order .

What you are failing to understand is that hiring undocumented people is exactly what lead this to happen. In order to cut costs the construction company risked lives of innocent people who were trying to feed their families. The reason that building exploded on the first place is that protocol of hiring was not followed properly. We cannot discuss one without the other.
People always assume that the discussion of illegal or undocumented immigrants always comes from a place of hate, in most cases it comes from a place of concern. Contractors are exploiting these people and putting their lives at risk because they know that they are undocumented and most are desperate for jobs. This is sick.

Ethiopia & Zimbabwe on totally opposed areas of African continent, so why should they feel in solidarity? The reporter should be asking about the illegal entry to South Africa & working illegally?
