60 Minutes, the most successful American television broadcast in history, began its 52nd season in September. Offering hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news, the broadcast began in 1968 is still a hit in 2020. 60 Minutes makes Nielsen’s weekly Top 10 nearly every week and was the #1 weekly television broadcast three times last season.
The program still averages more than 10 million viewers, more than double the audience of its nearest network news magazine competitor. The average audience for a 60 Minutes broadcast is 150% higher than those of the network morning news programs; the audience dwarfs the number of viewers drawn by the most popular cable news programs.
About a million more people listen to the 60 Minutes radio simulcast in several major cities and on its companion podcast. Tens of thousands each week experience 60 Minutes online. The broadcast’s segments can be watched at 60Minutes.com and on the CBS All Access app. Its webcast, 60MinutesOvertime.com, offers content originally produced for the web, including behind-the-scenes video about the production of 60 Minutes stories and timely archival segments.
60 Minutes has won every major broadcast award. Its 25 Peabody and 150 Emmy awards are the most won by any single news program. It has also won 20 duPont-Columbia University journalism awards. Other distinguished journalism honors won multiple times include the George Polk, RTDNA Edward R. Murrow, Investigative Reporters and Editors, RFK Journalism, Sigma Delta Chi and Gerald Loeb awards.
60 Minutes premiered on CBS September 24, 1968. Bill Owens is the program’s executive producer. The correspondents and contributors of 60 Minutes are Sharyn Alfonsi, Anderson Cooper, John Dickerson, Norah O’Donnell, Scott Pelley, Lesley Stahl, Bill Whitaker and L. Jon Wertheim.

The worst part is that Gretna Police had no jurisdiction on the Crescent City Connection as it connects the City of New Orleans to the City of New Orleans. I personally believe that those officers and those who made this decision should have been brought up on Federal Civil Rights violations. 42 USC 1983 would be justified. Just for those who say I don't know what I am talking about, I am a life-long native of the Greater New Orleans region and have lived in the City of New Orleans since 2011.

This was a real sad lesson. Every person must be prepared for a disaster to taake care of yourself for at least one week. Have a backpack with your medicines, antiseptic, bandages, freeze dried foods, a water purifier. If you want your pets to survive you will have food for them too. If you do not know your neighbors well, then you might consider including a small weapon.

Nobody should have wasted time or energy stopping “looting.” The government and FEMA absolutely failed New Orleans. Any security should have been used to protect people from violent crimes and peacefully distribute whatever goods were in the city.

I was watching new Orleans mayor before the hurricane arrived. He stated to one and all that this hurricane was the real deal in other words leave new Orleans before the hurricane Arrives and go now before the hurricane hits. Why didn't the residents of new Orleans evacuate before the hurricane arrived? I wasn't there but if I had been in new Orleans before the hurricane arrived I surely would have evacuated after hearing the news conference warning from the mayor. The mayor had a lot of information about what to expect after the hurricane arrived.

The vast majority of the people who stayed did so because they were poor. That means they probably didn't have the means to leave. It takes money to pick up and go somewhere else. Your question doesn't take into consideration the fact that many of these people probably couldn't afford the gas money to travel to a safer place. What if they don't have family who could offer them shelter? These people had no choice. I sincerely don’t understand how the police could stop their neighbors from crossing a bridge. We aren't talking about an international border. We're talking about literal neighbors.

I’m behind the Gretna mayor and police on this. New Orleans looked like mayhem right after Katrina. Accurate or not, they felt they were keeping their community safe by doing this. Nothing wrong with that.

They were keepin their communities safe no matter the cost. There was nothin wrong with gettin help from the NOPD who had officers showed when respondin to a shots fired call, to keep the people (blacks) from crossing over. Whatever it takes right to keep them out of the community they are protectin. These officers arrived in a rental truck and an unmarked car and started following 2 different groups both seen in different areas tryin to leave, and were firin their weapons out of the windows of the car and the back of the truck, one group was a family of 4 where 1 was shot and killed and the others suffered severe injuries bad enough the one’s arm was shot p so bad it was almost shot off and had to be amputated later and they were all shot numerous of times while tryin to duck and hide from the bullets, and the other was 2 brothers, the older one mentally challenged with the mind of a child was shot in the back hen beaten and kicked until he died. Officers said they were armed so they had no choice. Good hero’s for helpin the neighborin community stay safe. Let’s have a shout out to the higher officials that came out and seen for themselves what was happenin and realized they were goin to have to assist their officers and started plantin weapons to show the victims were armed at the time, fabricating witnesses to verify the entire story that started with assistin fellow officers in the shots fired called that was never made and coverin up the whole story te officers told, because when they had arrived and checked out the whole scene that turned out to be a bloody massacre without cause they knew they would have to step in and do their part to make sure their officers story would not be questioned. Innocent people who just wanted to get off the bridge and reach their intended destinations were shot, severely injured and killed without real cause except the neighboring communities didn’t want to take a chance that any of them (Mostly black) people would pollute their neighborhood and harm any of the citizens in the area. NO there’s nothin wrong with wantin what they thought was best for the safety of their community if that was all it was, but not at the cost of innocent lives bein lost and injured all because of law enforcement discriminations against anything they don’t like or agree with and the racism that has darkened New Orleans people over the centuries.
