- Hi everyone,
My name is Tracy and I garden in Zone 4/5 (maybe zone 5/6 judging by our last winter) in Toronto, Canada.
You are watching a video of my husband, Loc, pruning all the evergreen topiaries in our front garden - Boxwood, Dwarf Alberta Spruce, and White Cedar Globe. 💚🪴💚 Loc enjoys and looks towards to pruning topiaries every spring. Pruning evergreen topiaries one job I do not feel comfortable doing and is grateful that Loc takes over.
Thank you so kindly for taking some of your precious time to watch my video. Take care & stay safe!
Happy (spring) gardening & see you next time! 🪴💚

Your husband is doing a fantastic pruning job, as the plants looks absolutely wonderful. Thank you for sharing my friend.🙂👍🙏
Thank you dear friend! 🙏💚🪴
You have such beautiful plants and flowers. .
Thank you 🙏 for watching! 🙏💚🪴
What patience! Beautiful job.
What a skill he has in shaping these plants ! Gorgeous! ❤️🇨🇦
Thank you Eileen! I think he's a natural when it comes to these skillful jobs....I'm so grateful for that!
Within the first 30 seconds, I'm like I WANT THAT TOOL 😅 Great video!
Wow super, great video,👍🌳

Thank you dear Seerat! 🙏💚🪴
Loc is a topiary genius. He makes it look effortless. Perfectionism at its finest. Tracy you are very fortunate to have such a talented husband. This video was such a pleasure to watch, as are all of them, thank you for sharing!🤗
Thank you so much Eva! Loc is my go to pruner for all the topiaries. He’s very talented and has eyes for many things that I’m not so good at around the house as well. He cooks, cleans, fixes everything around the house, makes furniture for me (coffee table, side tables, etc….). I’m so grateful for a partner & spouse who is very supportive of my gardening hobby and everything else as well. 💚🪴🙏
Wow! He’s an artist. Great job.
Thank you so much! He enjoys shaping them every spring!
I love topiaries too
Thank you so much 😊...topiaries make everything look neat and brings a little formality to a front garden. 🙏💚🪴
He did such a great job! I really like that mini pruning tool, and my favorite are the spiral ones.
Thank you Alex! I think spirals are my fav as well. 🙏💚🪴
Amazing job they look beautiful 🥰
Thank you 🙏 Jasmine! 🙏💚🪴
Thanks to you and your hubby...I found the shears today and love them. Just what I needed for all my boxwood and cedars. Love your videos!
You are welcome Sue! This tool is definitely a must have for pruning topiaries...it makes it so much more easy and fun. Have fun pruning away Sue! Thank you 🙏💚🪴
Wow, Tracy! You and your husband have so much skills and talent. It’s like both of you can do everything.🥰💕🌸 Your garden is already beautiful but after your husband have pruned the topiary trees they become even more gorgeous!😍 It’s so relaxing as well to watch the pruning.☺️
Thank you Janelyn - Loc finds it relaxing while pruning as well. We compliment each other very well. 🙏💚🪴
Wow. Great cutting job. This reminds me of the Edward Scissorhands movie.
Thank you Eddy! 🙏😉💚 It does look like so with the gloves....😆
Oh my gosh! Can I borrow him?🤣🤣. He is so talented at this.
Yes, Loc would be more than happy to help you with one of his fav chores in the garden. Gardening is not one of his fav things to do but he definitely enjoys shaping up all the topiaries every spring. He has gotten so used to do this around this time that he actually reminded me to trim them today. 😊
Ps. Some of our friends and neighbors have “borrowed” Loc a few times already. 🤣
Awesome small tool for trimming.
The tools made everything "easy" and quick! Thanks again Whengz!
I’m so impressed by Loc’s shaping skills.
THank you Elsa...I too always get impressed every spring...he always amazes me as he does it "once" a year and yet requires no marking or tape or anything. :-)
I on the other hand would not be able to do it by eye ball like Loc.
Where oh where did you get that tool, I’ve never seen it before, it has several attachments?

Thank you so much Bolo! 🙏💚🪴
Masterpiece! What a gift! 🌲👏🏾
Thank you so much! 🙏💚🪴
Wow! Beautiful shaping of these gorgeous shrubs. That trimming tool is amazing. Looking forward to spring so we can shape our dwarf Alberta spruce. Thank you for these inspiring ideas. Sending love and greetings from Missouri ♡
Those boxwoods are so patient
🤣💚🤣 happy gardening 💚💚💚
Great job of trimming the different shrubs/trees, your husband made it look simple :) Love the Stihl shears - should invest in a set for myself ; )
Thank you Leia! I think it’s worth buying a set if you have more than one topiary to shape. It sometimes goes on sale - I’ve seen the set go for as low as $99 in Canada. 🙏💚🪴
That's beautiful - it's an ART.
Mesmerising. Nice to see the electric shears in use too. They look handy.
Like 12 , Good Job 💚🤔🌱🌳
Thank you so much Hariyali! 🙏💚🪴
Wonderful music
Thank you Maggi! 🙏💚🪴
👍👍👍 Только если перед обрезкой под растением застелить какую-то ткань , то потом убирать легче.

This was so much fun to watch! Your husband is talented! And now I want those Stihl hedge shears he used. 👍🏼
Thank you so much Laura! I’m very thankful for Loc’s love of pruning Topiaries. I think this is one “chore” that I may take a long time to learn but it seems so natural and easy for Loc. 🙏💚🪴. Soon Loc will have 4 more Dwarf Alberta spruce in the containers at the front of our house to shape. 🤞😉😁
@@TracysHomeGarden He does a fabulous job! Can't wait to see the new containers! Your gardens are so pretty!
Thank you Laura! 🙏💚🪴
Wow! Amazing job done by your husband! It looks like he's been working in a barber shop for many years! =)
Thank you Minh! I will let Loc know so he could have a good laugh at your comment! 😆😅
Whoh he did such a beautifully job
I do it myself , husband just cheers me 😂😂😂
Lol...all the best and happy gardening Issha!
Really awesome! Make more content on boxwood trimming pls
We will! Thank you!
I love this Video, thankyou for sharing ❤
🌳✔️🌳✔️🌳✔️🌳✔️🌳NICE JOB‼️🌳✔️
Thank you so much Marlise! 🙏💚🪴
Good video 👌👌
Thank you! 🙏💚🪴
Vire nice
Wow Tracy he did an amazing job. That was so cool to watch. If he could choose one tool for this job, would he pick the mini hedge trimmer or the small handle held cutter thing? I need to get myself one for my topiaries 😍
Thank you Jeanette!

They come as a pair of both shears Janette. 🙏💚🪴
@@TracysHomeGarden oh wow! Perfect!
That was great. Did you get the boxwoods as spirals or did you train them that way. He has a nice technique.
Thank you Monica! He has a “natural” sense of shapes & angles that I do not have....give me a plant to divide and I will know exactly where to split...but pruning spirals???? 😬 The chance of success without messing it up is not highly likely. 😆
Tracy, your husband, Loc, has some mad topiary pruning skills! I thoroughly enjoyed watching as he trimmed and shaped the different topiaries. What brand or type of trimmers did he use? They were small and appeared to be battery-operated. Thanks for sharing this with all of us! ~Margie
Hi Margie,
I have the website attached below for you:
weekshomehardware.ca/p/stihl-hsa-26-battery-shrub-shears-0510203
Before we got married he was never into gardening...so it came as a surprised to me when he started pruning plants into shapes for “fun”. If I were to prune - I would have use marking paint, etc...and everything would take me 3X as long. 🙏💚🪴
@@TracysHomeGarden Thanks for the information! Your sweet husband obviously a gardener at heart.
I am loving it and the machine, where can I purchase. With my nerve damages and arthritis I can't use heavy machines anymore and this be perfect to use.

@@TracysHomeGarden thank you
He goes so fast I could not see the brand name good job 👍
The link is in the other comment Juanita! 🙏💚🪴
Great job thanks 👍
What other evergreen types have you used to make topiaries? I have 6ft dwarf albertas in my front yard that are getting too big even though i trim them a little bit each year. I am so tempted to make something funky out of them but can’t find much info on doing so (i bet it’s bc it is not recommended?)
Secondly everyone be so careful with those power sheers!! Unlike the old type of heavy two handed hedge trimmers this is so light weight it is VERY easy to get your other hand in the way. I unfortunately ended up in stitches on two fingers a few years ago bc i was careless for a split second. Thank you!
Hi Steph,
The dwarf Alberta spruce are great for topiaries as they are hardy and versatile. The spruce I have in ground and planters are all of the same. I feel the same about those sheers - I don’t trust myself with them so I leave them to Loc. 💚💚💚
This is so awesome Tracy! I knew you had boxwood but not Dwarf Alberta Spruce. I just bought 5 at Home Depot and they are smaller 1-1/2ft right now and plan on putting in pots for Topiarys. I really needed some everygreens after buying 20 Panicles.😂 Wow this makes it look so easy. I must have this tool. May I ask what kind of soil would be good for them in pots? Thank you for sharing. Thank your great hubby too.😊
Nice job! Thanks for sharing! That is a great tool. Saw it for the first time. Wonder where you got that trimmer tool. Thank You!
Thank you Ting!

Curious why you say you can’t do the shaping of the topiaries? There’s one boxwood I have that I want to shape into a cone and I’ve been putting it off cause I’m nervous I’ll screw it up. 🤣
Many years ago I accidentally pruned one and the spiral came out lopsided...lol....we ended up having to leave it as a cone. Also, I would have to use marking paint to make the spiral before pruning...and everything would just take 3X as long! 🙏💚🪴😀
@@TracysHomeGarden the boxwood spiral is phenomenal!,😍
Can you tell me what the name of your smaller shearing tool is? You can come to my yard anytime.

Thank You 🥰😊
Hi! They look great. Can you give us the names of the tools and the models you are using in the video or those that you recommend? Thanks!
Hi 👋
The information about the tools we used is in the description. Happy gardening! 💚
@@TracysHomeGarden Can't really see it. Thanks
You know, I watched the vid last night - and the tools stuck with me so I searched out the vid this morning in order to ask for the name of the tools. I scrolled down to check out the comments and came across yours 😁. I'll surely check out the link provided 👍🏾
I just bought one of these and dont know where to put it I was thinking of taking it back, but after this I may keep it ;) my husband doesnt like spiders so I"m concerned. I am thinking put it in in front of the house, we had huge aspen trees that died so we had to cut those but new ones are coming in and would hate for this to take over, I wonder if it's ok to put it close to aspen trees.
what is the name of that tool? I see it is a Stihl ,but what is it called TY
What are the pink flowers surrounding your dwarf Alberta spruce?? So beautiful! Hoping I can plant them in Minnesota and they will survive each winter!
The pink flowers are Royal purple alyssum and they are annuals for us in zone 5…
@@TracysHomeGarden We are in zone 5 too! I want a topiary so bad I went to Home Depot and almost picked a Eugenia topiary but after researching I will have to bring it inside every winter I saw a dwarf Alberta spruce topiary I guess I will go with that we live in Illinois I guess I can leave the topiary outside in winter😊 BTW what's the best month to prune the spruce?
Thanks.
What is the brand name of shears he used to prune the topairy
Hi Juanita,

Happy gardening! 🙏💚🪴
Hello! I just recently bought a Dwarf Alberta Spruce and was wondering how you keep those so healthy looking! Mine has some spots where it has no green, and was looking for some tips!
Thank you Reanna!
Dwarf Alberta spruce needs a lot of water but thrive in very well draining soil….and a little acidity in the soil as well. At planting, you should give it a little bit of soil sulfur. The planters where I have them as centrepieces - they get 4L of water every 2 days…but the soil is very well draining so they are loving it. They don’t like “wet feet” so if the soil is clay then they will be unhappy and May slowly turn brown with some dead spots here and there….which usually happens during winter (or late spring) when we get a lot of snow that melts. Hope that helps.
@@TracysHomeGarden yes this really helps! Thank you so much!
What are the tools your using?? I'm in Washington state. Are they on Amazon by chance? Love how you trimmed them❤
STIHL HSA 26: Battery shrub shears
My dwarf spruce is getting big, can I just thin it out. Can I cut the top to make it shorter? Ty
You probably should make topiary out of it. All the best. 💚💚💚
It seems so easy, what’s the tool used?
Hi Rue,

The link where we got the shears is above. Happy gardening! 🙏💚🪴
How old specimens are your topiaries?
What pruner are you using at 0.08th minute to trim small bushes?
weekshomehardware.ca/p/stihl-hsa-26-battery-shrub-shears-0510203
This is the set we used. 💚🙏🪴
Will the topiary for Alberta spruce continue growing back into normal shape?
Yes, so you have to prune it every year. However, it won’t be as hard as the 1 time as it already holds the shape.
@@TracysHomeGarden can you share an update to yours?
Did u shape the plant or did u buy it as a topiary
My husband Loc shapes them! 💚🪴💚

Absolutely gorgeous! What kind of boxwood is it?

I hate Alberta Spruce… red spider 🫣🫣🫣🥴
We don’t have red spiders in our Alberta Spruce. It’s the boxwoods moths that are destroying my spiral boxwoods now. Pests 😬😬😬
