DIY Your own Pool-Noodle RC 3D Trainer airplane!
This is what you can build from an ordinary foam pool noodle! I call this the "Demon-Claw" 3D plane! My own original design. ... it's so easy to make you don't even need plans just watch my build video coming up in a day or two that will also have the maiden flight !
My Demon-Claw is so easy to build ANYONE can build it!
Here are the parts for this Pool Noodle plane:
2-30 to 40 inch carbon fiber Rods
1 Pool Noodle
1 large sheet of Depron or equvelant foam
1 30-40AMP ESC speed controller
1 750KV or up to a 2000KV brushless outrunner motor use a motor around 1 inch in diameter . . .if it too large it will make your plane too heavy!
4 11-20 gram mini servos
1 6, 8 or 10 inch prop
2 1 or 2 inch diameter foam wheels
Plastic hinges and speed connectors
I use a Futaba 7CAP 2.4Mhz Radio and FASST RX for this plane. - Zábava
OMG. That's the old K- Mart up the road from me. What a small world it is.
Great build.
clockguy2 that K-mart must have closed down years ago right?
The last I recall the K-mart open was in the late 1980s when I was a student at Baptist College (way before I moved back to the area). I'm not too sure if hurricane Hugo didn't do it in.
GR8 instructions Jim.
BADASS! looks awesome! Good for you for being super creative ! plane looks really good!
Awesome thanks again!!
Love it! Gotta git me some pool noodles!
I can't wait to look listen and learn this is fantastic....Looks like a "Yak".
Very cool design....I like it!!!!
Excellent ! You're the man!
J Restrepo Thankyou Sir!
Great job sir, love your work.
+daBomb1968 Thanks!!!!
THAT IS AWESOME!!!!
Excellent...great stuff...cant thing of anything more 'funner'
David Robinson Thankyou for the kind words David!
That pool noodle would make a perfect body for a Corsair...
Mat Dodge It does! That was my first thought on seeing the fat noodle being converted to a plane. :O) That woud be nice!
Great idea and implementation on the build.
I've seen a giant plastic baseball bat for toddlers that would make a great plane too. Wish I could do more. I'm still building my first two planes (nut-ball clones). Pain stops me from working more than 15 min at a time. But still great plane.
Robert Sir I'm grateful for your kind words brother! I wish you all the best on your builds! Sorry about your pain. . . . Keep on building & Never give up!
.
Guys, Friends! I added a Parts List to this Video's Video Description!!! Have a look!
This is big...gonna be huge! Love this guy’s narration! Nice work !
I'm glad you liked it Sir, thankyou!
I already have everything needed to build one of these :).
This is a fun idea. I may have to try this one day, haha. Sections of pool noodle would make decent nacelles for a twin/multi motor/engine plane too.
Cool
Great concept,thumbs up.
This idea has been around for a few years now, it's a great easy way to build a tough RC plane.
Pool Noodle plane, hahaha,,,, EXCELLENT idea~!
+Mohammad was illiterate Thanks, But I wasn't the first to do this but Its a great Cheap way to build a durable RC plane.
Wow! What a great video! That final flight was outstanding!
Luis Aguilar Luis . . . Your a king among men Sir! Thanks!
good job
Awesome video!!!
Super stuff.
Love your easy going 'way'.
Thankyou Don, Much appreciated.
wow!!. great plane to build. will make one.. like this video
Thankyou Arteta!
Nice video.
Hola eso es espectacular muy buena idea .
Les mando un saludo muy grande para todos desde Buenos Aires
I'm gonna use the whole pool noodle and make a 60 inch Demon Claw. I don't like to waste stuff. :)
That's gonna be one big flying Noodle Cyborg-B!
This is awesome
Nnaemeka Nkulume Thankyou Nnaemeka!
your the man!!!
hfe18 Thankyou Sir!
very nice thank you
Greetings from the Netherlands

super cool
+paslaru marius Thankyou Paslaru!
welcome ,my friend ! :)
Love the video
DaTacoTree Very Nice of You!
you had me at $30 because i did some reaserch and did dah mathz and allmost all the planes that i had plans for would cost around $100 so THANK YOU YOU SAVED MY PROTENTAL HOBBY (yes english is my 1st language, i just sick at spelling and dont feel like spell cheaking)
+Jacob Wythe Your Very Welcome Jacob!
love it
+Mitchell Green Thankyou Mitchell!
very creative
Thank you for the build video. You are a very good pilot to fly in such a busy, relatively small area. l delivered many pallets of sod just past there at Flowertown Nursery and Branch Creek. Happy to see someone close.
jimsz0100 Thanks for watching Jim, The Charleston Area has Lots of RC Flyers!
Awesome and very creative. Funny how I was thinking about that, but you just did it! Cool!
Thankyou Franky!
ive been watching you for a while you get my subscription because of this video..not you best plane but to mee coolest video because you made it easy for people who may not have the resourses to go out and but a nice fancy plane thumbs up Driver!!!!!
Thankyou Dnismo! that is exactly why I built I made this video . . .so almost anyone can go out an build their very own RC plane and see that's its not as hard as people may think.
very good
+rana shoaib. Thankyou Rana!
Nice job DD! ;-)
Good job man..and I feel the same way don't worry about the mess give your girl a dollar and send her ass to the dollar tree and grab me some foam...love it I've been making my own also and have a couple that fly better than my costly planes ,,,great video
awesome video very nicely done with excellent instructions on how to, jod well done very impressed
sunchser1 Thankyou Sir!
very nice job....I like the way you explain as you go.... a lot of guys make too many assumptions when they do their videos....//
Awesome video Bro I love how you take it step by step.
Thankyou My Friend! Great Durable plane!
Thank you

+mohannad al madanie
Thanks Mohannad!
Guys, Friends! I added a Parts List to this Video's Video Description!!! Have a look!
+F3HDemonDriver thanks for clarification
Cool! This method would be a good way to do a twin boom, twin engine plane also.
Twin boom noodle plane is a great idea Ollander!
Great video... I can't wait to try this... I tried to learn how to fly RC planes many years ago... I crashed two planes and gave up... I still have all the equipment... I purchased top of the line at the time... In my city they make you buy insurance and get a license and be a member of the AMA to learn to fly... Now I see you must register with the FAA... I will need to look into what all is required before I get back into fly RC planes... I think I can learn it better this time with all the flight simulators for PC and Cell phones now days...
Thankyou Z71 Ranger! You'll Love this plane!
your great
i will try bro
Thankyou Naresh.
They sell nice noodles at the Dollar Tree (everything's a dollar!) near me. Good video!
+Anton Nym Thanks! You'll Love this plane!
thx bro this is ur best vid
+Arwin Mangroe I'm very grateful Sir Thankyou!
Coooooooool
+Willy 123 Thaaaaaankyou!
wow i like it i am shoping
+Uddhav Suradkar Thankyou Uddhav!
That's good Demon Driver. Lot of work putting the video together. I'll build this and credit you on my other channel AirViewVideo. Thanks my friend. -COLE
Cut 2 pieces of 1/2 PVC pipe 3 inches, and insert them on each end on noodle before carbon rod
this is genius.
Thankyou Sir!
I'm gonna make one of these
+Edward Boney (Nate) I'm happy to hear that Edward. . . Let me know if I can help.
I got to build me one of these. You rock and should sell kits for this build. You'd make millions.
I'd rather share the Money with to Buy Poor children RC planes so they can have fun with RC flight!
Thankyou Samuel!

F3HDemonDriver lol
You sound just like Charley Sheen lol nice video
+Edward Boney (Nate) Thankyou Sir. . . Mr Sheen did the voice -over. . Lol
this is my math project and it looks pretty fun
+MrSkinnykid It Is VERY fun indeed! Good luck let me know if you need help!
F3HDemonDriver thanks
Herck? Anyways love this idea going to make one maybe a red one ha! Thanks again and great vids!
Hi Chris.. . . The El - Herck is slowly coming along Sir. . . . A red Noodle plane will be cool!
wow
I realize you are trying to do this so that even the most novice builder can build one of these planes, but there were times that the descriptions were a little tedious and repetitive. That said, this is an ingenious design and the perfect build for someone who is interested in getting into rc flying without the huge initial investment. The big plus is that when that first crash happens (as it always does when you're first learning) it won't destroy a plane that you've spent hours building and hundreds of dollars on. I'm even thinking of building one for myself to take down to the soccer fields by my house just for fun flying. Heck of a lot easier than bringing my glow powered plane and all that goes along with it for just a few hours of casual flying.
+Rob Billeaud Thanks Rob, I want to Make Start-to-finish Build videos to help New builders get into Scratch building! I hope you try and build this plane Rob.
You know what noodle man....that battery made a big difference. lol
that is awesome... man...and im watching in 2015... how cool is that...
(y)
any way... i can't build this coz i don't have that kind of material
last time i build, plane is so heavy that i couldn't move at all...LOL
any way.. i m inspire by this video it is long but i will watch all of it..
i will do it your way... with other material...thank u for the video...:)
deadpiece111 let me know if I can help. . . Feel free to ask me anything you want in order to help you build your plane.
4:10 KV means rpm per volt, not kilo volt. The k means constant, probably not in english. I used to, and many people do think that KV means kilo volt.
You should make a plane design with the wings up front or close to the nose and the rotors/engins in the back. I think it would work. Plz make.design and try to build it
Thank you for saying mesurments
You should make the ailerons 2 inches also
I just cut straight to the end ....BOOOM!
Me Too ;-)
if you raised the prop and electronics to the top you could have a land/waterplane
Very True David, you can indeed modify this design into a float-plane!
Oh, and love this video, thanks. also, what are the measurements for the motor mount?
Thankyou! On This plane I think it was 1.5 to 2 inches
that is is so awesome. can we paint our RC plane? does it matter?can we put more than 11 volt batteries to stay more longer than 11 volt? that is all what i have thank you for posting this video for us. and my name is Fikr bye
My 5 y/o son and I will try to do this as a project together .
+William Vaughn. That's great news Will, good luck to you and your Son.
that thing has a j-hook going on there lol
+chris garza
Guys, Friends! I added a Parts List to this Video's Video Description!!! Have a look!
Hi,
what thickness of depron do you recommend : 3 or 6 mm ?
Nice and useful video.
Regards
Thierry
Great video! My son and I are gathering all the materials to start building the plane as a Father's Day gift and summer project. We are wondering what is the size of the propeller you used and which motor should we use. Thanks for taking your time to make the video and for your feedback.
Hi . . . Sounds like a great idea Sir. . . Get a mini brushless motor of 1300 to 2300 KV that's kilavolts. . . About 22 to 2mm diamter.
Use a 5 to 8 inch prop.
Nice one.
Could you please tell me the thickness of the carbon rod you use and the thickness of the foam you used for the wings?
Thanks.
楽しいアイデアですね!
あなたは何でも飛行機にできる! (^_^)
お疲れ様 (^_^)
とても忝い !!!!
How about a parts list? What size prop, motor, servos, ESC, and battery do you like for this model?
Great job man. Well done. I try to make my own, please tell me can I after make plane put some decorative foill on it to cover wings and body. Than for video.
+Djordje Novakovic Thankyou Sir!, I like your Tinfoil idea!
This is a great video and I'm at about 33 07 of it, I am wondering why you left out the tool to cut the canopy piece and the exact measurements to make.....
Ron S I'm sorry Ron. . . That's a french curve stencil. . Then I used a razor to cut out the canopy.
Would it be possible to create a list with the specific parts you have in the video along with quantity?

Guys, Friends! I added a Parts List to this Video's Video Description!!! Have a look!
My son wants to try this as his first RC plane project. Can you tell us more about the receiver, the speed controller and the battery that ended up being most successful? We live in China, so we have some extra challenges trying to dig up all the supplies. Any details you can provide would be helpful! Thanks for the great, detailed video!
Carey Jane Clark Yes Ma'am, Use any good 2.4Mhz Radio and receiver, the smaller the better and a 20-30 Amp Speed controller and a 7 to 11 Volt Lipo Battery . . .you Live in the RC Factory of the world so you can find these parts anywhere. Sorry for the late reply Mrs Clark!
but how do you find the center of lift
Hi F3H DemonDriver. Thanks for the details in the video, looks like a fun project. Kudo's for the Chip Foose drawings in the beginning! I was wondering if you could share more details on the electronics, maybe an ordering example? Greetings from the Netherlands!
+Pevi70 I'm Happy to help Sir!
+F3HDemonDriver Great, thanks! Would you mind going through this list to see if I order the correct parts?

i would like to know about some formula for the combination of esc motor battery servo etc
plz help
Nice plane/video pretty clever, but, dont most 3-d planes have bigger airlerons?well i usually make mine about 1.5 to 1.75", but nice plane none the less.
Thanks for commenting! . . It has smaller ailerons because it's a 3D trainer.
Driver, get yourself a pair of KLEIN LINEMAN PLIERS and you will never think a small steel wire is a tough one again. Been cutting hardened screws with these for years. Have tried many other Linemans and NONE compare.
Thankyou Tigers9596!
Anytime! I flew some RCs recently. My Super Cub is broken though :(
We'd like to see it fly.
2:36:15
This is a cool little project, but that is a FAST trainer, and obviously, a tube warped to the right is going to be problematic for a newbie struggling with trim adjustments in the first ten seconds of the flight, so attention should be paid to that.
congrats, this really is a nice tutorial how to do this rc airplane. You said the price was between 30-50 usd (or whatever). Does the price includes Futaba 7CAP 2.4Mhz Radio and FASST RX ?? Would you mind to add some sites where we can buy each part of this rc airplane ?
+Light Out. Your right, the price only covers the airplane, not the Radio, if you want cheep parts try Greyson hobby in Atlanta, or Tower hobby in Chicago. . . Or I'd you live outside the U.S. try Unitedhobbies aka Hobbyking.
Why dont you laminate the wings for extra stability and extra durability in crashes?
LOL, You need to clean that room, LOLOL, It looks like my hobby room, LOLOL
I was never made to clean up my room as a Child and now I'm screwed for life LOL
very good job from were you buy the foam sheet
Damn you're really good with that exacto knife anyway could you help me out with an appendix problem I'm currently having because I don't trust doctors but I Trust anybody with RC skills and skills with an exacto blade like you and you clearly have the skills so clearly you are that person so what do you say you want to remove an appendix today? LOL
An Appendix? Off the top of my head, I'll charge you under 20K
I have a practice down in Los Mochis Mexico.
I also own 200 Acres of Dry Farmland next to the Titanic wreck I'd love to see you! LOL ->LMAO!!
Hey, what's with the two L1011 fuselages hanging on the wall. I assisted with deliver of the first TWA L1011's in 1972. Beautiful bird, but the DC-10 did better as a commercial carrier.
+Beemerdave1 Thankyou Dave! Those are two scratchbuilt L-1011's the PanAm is a 500 and the ANA is a longer 300 series Tristar.
Thank you for the idea. But I am lacking a motor. I have a motor of 500 rmp (approximately) .Will it do?
I thought so too
