- Recently we made a video on the first ever production jet fighter, the iconic German Me. 262. It’s hard to overstate the importance of that aircraft… but just a few months into its service, it already had a proper rival. In July 1944, the Royal Air Force were already using the Gloster Meteor - subsequently the only jet aircraft on the Allied side that saw actual use in combat during the war. The story of the development of this aircraft is just as spectacular.

if you love that, try the vampire, it is an amazing turn fighter, only getting beaten by the Ho 229 (sometimes). A great plane.

@@hoobisha9256 Yeah but the F.3 turns just a bit harder. The vamp is faster better climbing and rolling though so it's definitely the superior craft.

Q: Would you add modern crew models for vehicles with visible crew? Such as Type 93, Duster, M163 Vulcan etc.

i skipped to this part and i thought i was seeing an A-10 until i realized there was no GAU-8 :(
Hmm, I'm not sure on how I feel about them adding an A-10, it's basically a hyper modernized IL-10 made by the US, which has a 30mm gun that can vaporize any ground unit it can attack from the top, and can carry various other armaments to boot, add in the fact that it would probably be added in at 10.7 BR thanks to it coming into US service after the F-4 Phantom and it would neither be fun to be killed by as a ground unit in tank battles, and it wouldn't be fun to fly because of guided missiles shooting at the thing when it can't exceed 800 kilometers per hour without ripping its wings

I bought the reaper sometime in 2018 for cas, I absolutely love it, and it's my go to for 8.3, now I have used it to grind out the majority of the British air tech tree and often play it for fun.
I just bought it yesterday, do you have any advice?
In air RB, don't go at it alone, but not with loads of teammates because then you won't get many kills. I'd try to stay around medium speed. For advice from a better player check DEFYN's meteor videos too. In ground RB, stay at a similar speed, attacking from around a 45 -70 degree angle if you're using rockets or bombs. The Hispanos are fantastic for CAS too if you load ground belts. Hope you have fun man :))) gl. o7 champ.@@katzenwagen.6799.o
I laugh when I think of the sea meteor because whoever had the idea of putting an extremely early jet on a carrier clearly had no sense of reality.

To be fair, the meteor had better T/W than most early jets, combined with decent wing loading.
And compared to the nightmare of a Carrier plane called the Seafire? Anything is easy to land after that
FJ1 Fury was used operationally.
The first jet powered aircraft to land on a carrier was the De Havilland vampire that first flew in 1944. So a modified meteor mk3 in 1948 wasn’t a big deal really. Plus the UK introduced most modern carrier features to accommodate jet aircraft like angled decks and steam catapults.
@@spindash64 The Seafire did ok, in fact the Corsair was bad to land as well, once in the air the Seafire was in a class of it's own and many pilots managed the landing rather well.
When i was little, whenever i did go to my local airport, i always saw a Meteor F.MK4 on the entrance, it's always in my mind. The MK4 It's my favorite, good job W.T!
The Meteor is so rugged, Martin-Baker has two of these in service, being used as test aircraft, essentially a ejection

I've been thinking of making a video for controls in Concoles for quite some time I use both Keyboard and Controller.

I would recommend just using the default controls. SOME things are unbound by default (Things like dedicated radar and Night Vision/IR keys) but can still be accesed through the Mechancism menu (Default Y).
For planes, set MG's to 1, Cannons to 2, rockets to 3 and bombs to 4 and Space.
Missles can be bound to whatever you like but preferably a double key to prevent accidentally turning them off (I use Alt+X to activate them and Ctrl+X to launch).
For ground vehicles. I bound F2 through to F5 for selecting weapons.
F2 is the main cannon.
F3 is the secondary armament (Some vehicles have a second gun, this selects that, it also moves which gun your aiming from which is helpful on things like the B1 with a lower gun).
F4 for machine guns, roof mounted guns specifically, helps with aiming at planes without messing with you guns elevation. This is also the 20mm on some higher tier vehicles with a coaxial 20mm.
F5 to reset the controls to default.
If you get a vehicle with hydro-pneumatic suspension, I recommend setting the controls to the Numpad.
I use these
5 Reset adjustments (returns the vehicle to what is spawns at)
8 and 2 lean forward/backward
4 and 6 lean left/right
9 and 3 raise and lower chassis.
It's best to experiment with these controls. They're difficult to learn and hard to really make use of but can help with aiming on sloped terrain and give you a few extra degrees of gun depression or elevation. They can also allow you to lower yourself and better hide behind some cover. Some objects are the perfect height for a vehicle to be completely hidden while lowered but be able to shoot over while raised. Keep in mind most, if not all vehicles can only adjust their suspension while stationary and it does rev up the engine producing noise. If the engine is turned off, suspension cannot be adjusted.

Have you guys considered the Meteor Meteor NF.11 though? They went into production and served in the RAF and Danish Air Force respectively.
Those were the longer-nosed airborne radar versions of the Meteor.

When i got the notification, first thing that came to my mind was the new trailer. “It was not a nuke?!” I thought. Then, going to the video, i realized that it was actually about an aircraft in the British tree which i don’t even care about. I was relieved.

The Mk.3 at 7.0 is honestly a blast at the moment. The uptier of the Centurion Mk3 and Extended family to 7.0 has created a really fun Ground RB lineup since no longer are you basically helpless against German jets. After playing that lineup and BR range for around a year on and off it is so so satisfying to finally stick it to those 262s in something they really struggle against- especially the CAS variants that most people are bringing out.
My favorite is the meteor-trent turboprop version. Please add it as an event vehicle, it would very unique and turboprops are so fun!
Can you add a feature where you can play as a pilot tank man and be in the navy all in the same match? That would be really cool so like the bombers could bomb the ships while fighters could protect it. Maybe you could make it like simulation battle but also arcade where every plane is from the same country. Basically what I’m saying is like you make it like battlefield 5. I think a lot more people would play your game too if you add infantry and like artillery and stuff. Your game would be the best game ever and i bet it would appeal to a lot more people that play battlefield or maybe cod. You could like upgrade your infantry person so you start as a ww2 soldier but then become a modern day soldier like you do with the planes and stuff. This would be a very good feature like this so they see it.

I remember I got into a verbal fight in a custom match talking about how very few jet planes fought in ww2 and this does prove my point and it was made by snail it’s self

One of the teething problems, and really the major one, was that the 20mms would jam and fail to fire at all for most of the war. They would take off, climb to altitude and intercept a V1, then the guns would simply fail to fire. They guns would test fine on the ground and sometimes operate just fine after landing and removal. Sometimes they would actually let off a few rounds then jam instead. This issue is why the Meteor took so long to see full deployment outside of air defense.
The teething problem was soon sorted out, The same as the Spitfire in 1940 had problems with their 20 mm but by 1941 that was solved,. The Meteor Mk III as used over Germany had no such problem.
i still dont have any later modifications of the meteor but the mk3 variant is one of my favourite jets to this day

Love the game. My suggestion is unrelated to the video. There is an option to change the color of the aiming reticule in 3rd person. Can we get an auto color change feature. So the reticule changes color automatically during combat so that it doesn't get lost in the background as it does now. Thanks. Keep up the good work.

The Reaper is a Great entry SB aircraft - packing a great bomb load with the ability to dogfight really well!
You missed an opportunity - in the game you have Manston Airfield, the first airfield a squadron of Meteors flew from.

Fun fact, the first ever jet vs. jet aerial combat was between a meteor and a V1 bomb, the meteors infamously poor guns failed, so it used melee combat to score the first ever Jet on Jet kill in history.

This has to be stated as it always gets pushed under the carpet. The Meteor went into operational service before the me262. The time difference was very close between the 2 jet aircraft but the meteor was first. Me262 was of course more successful in combat considering where the aircraft were located and where they had to fight compared to the Meteor that was only UK based and far from any actual air to air threats.
Until the Meteor was being used over Germany for armed reconnaissance and ground attack. 46 Luftwaffe aircraft destroyed.
Why did you give the Tu-14 a torpedo? There are no player controlled ships (yet) at the battle ratings of the Tu-14.
Because the 2 sim maps with AI Ships use full ship models. (Port Moresby and Dover Strait)
They aren't very smart ships but they use actual bullets for their AA fire too. Not the cheap airfield AA in air arcade and rb. And by not very smart. They dont have parts or FPE. A single HEAT rocket can sink one if it hits the water line as it will fail to patch the hole in the ship and slowly list over.

Personally I love my meteor reaper for air sim! Its a very capable aircraft for 8.0 and just yesterday I nabbed an F-4E in it!

P-80s saw use in combat roles in WW2. They didn't see combat. so it would be more accurate to say the Meteor was the only Allied jet to actually see combat in ww2
Almost researched all Ground And Air in the tree. The jet bomber is not to be trifled with at Very High Attitudes because of it wings it can turn very well and its gun pod.. well I havnt flown it I quite some time since FGR2 is being the Thrustmaster with those big nasty flight Deck melting Spey engines.

Whilst interesting, the facts quoted regarding Frank Whittle are totally wrong. He was actively supported by the RAF and the Air Ministry. When the government brought together their development with Power Jet, he was awarded £100,000. To put that in perspective Watson Watt got £50,000 for Radar and Tommy Flowers £1,000 for the first computer.
Basically, his engine was not powerful for the Meteor, but was used for ground testing. As I am sure you are aware Rolls Royce took over development and manufacturing from Rover. Several prototypes were built all with different engines, the most interesting was the F4/2 axial flow engined version, which ultimately became the Bristol Sapphire and the Rolls Royce Avon. They decided to go with the F1 Rolls Royce Adrian Lombard designed Welland engine first, this was used against the flying bomb. F2 was to have the Goblin engine, designed by Major Frank Halford, also designed Sabre, however this was used on the vampire. F3 used the Rolls Royce Derwent, led by Stanley Hooker, Designed by Maurice Wilks and Adrian Lombard. The long nacelles F3 last batch modification addressed compression issues, increasing speed by around 75 mph, without engine modifications.
My favorite meteor: Chicxulub Impactor, but its not modelled in the game yet.

How about adding v1s oder v2s as a replacement for artillery? Maybe with a smaller warhead than irl and more point needed to use to make it not too op
