  • We're back on the road! It's time to head south down the East Coast and pick up some exciting new gear.
After a fun stay at Burrum Shores for the Pioneer Party we're heading south back to Brisbane. First stop is Scrubs to finish off our 3M PPF install before a quick stop at McCormacks to check over the suspension after our first 500km.
The next morning we headed to Enerdrive to pick up our power system for the Landcruiser and got some incredible new Baja Designs driving lights from Innovative 4x4.
Torrential rain and heavy traffic is our send off from the Gold Coast as we make our way towards Newcastle.

Next time check out the free camp at Brunswick Heads, on the eastern side heading south. Sealed, amenities, far enough off to escape road noise.
Those lights look great, but must block a lot of airflow, already restricted because of your winch. Have your temperatures risen?
This is the reason I cleared in front of the grille on our Defender, used a lightbar higher up instead and fitted a desert grille for extra airflow in hot weather.
In this climate, airflow for cooling is essential.
BTW have you considered extra vents at the rear of the engine bay to exhaust hot air and create a lower air pressure area at the firewall?
Air moves from high to low pressures. The high pressure area is in front of the grille. The aim is to suck more high pressure air through the radiator to a lower pressure area at the rear of the engine bay.
This is why Land Rovers have vents in the mudguards in front of the doors, to promote airflow and improve cooling. Just a thought.

Thanks for the campsite tip. No noticable effect on temps, but it also hasn't been hot since we fitted them. Something to keep an eye on though.

Happy birthday Simon, better late than never. Amazing turn out. Dreadful weather, makes it very tiring, I’m with you Liz in that weather. I have a favourite spot when travelling south on the coast road, Little Italy free as well. The 76 is looking wonderful. Cheers Judy two sleeps for me before NZ

If we need to stop anywhere around there we head to Cubby Bakehouse in Chinderah on the Tweed River. Close enough to the highway and far enough away from the servo. Pretty decent food and coffee to boot.

G'day again to you all, good to see you're back on the road again. Just wondering if you didnt already know or had your windscreen treated while all the other things were happening, but did notice that you had your wipers going flat out in that rain. Just a tip from an ex truck driver, a product we use and no, it doesnt last for ever, but really helps during those super wet times, is called Rain-x. Great for all your glass, mirrors and lights. Just a tip.
Also noticed another comment here about those "holes" left behind where the mirrors were replaced, have you considered some little black car body plugs ? they can be fitted and removed fairly easily. how far south are you coming, and about what time ? there is a few camps that might suit you guys after you cross the Vic border. We are in East Gippsland and planning a short trip to Canberra in a couple of weeks, lets us know. Safe travels.

Thanks Peter! That's great to know. I've seen that product before but I wasn't sure how good it was. Good to hear it's effective, I'll look at grabbing some. We've got black bolts in the holes for now, which looks OK, but I think we'll come up with something better. We're on our way west now, Gippsland will have to wait until another time! Thanks again.

Was a great to meet your family and spend two weekends in a row celebrating with you and everyone that turned up for the pioneer party and the titanium takeover. Need to get back down to buurum shores for a break, but been busy helping fighting the fires up here . Can't wait to see your adventures from east to west so it will give us a travel plan to head over that way next year.
The 76 looking good with all the extras you are getting fitted cant wait to see when its finished Safe travels and hope you find some caramel slice as good as Amanda's 😊

Hi from New Zealand. Happy 40th Birthday Simon, Your LC 76 build looks great even down to the matching colour coordinated personal number plate. It is like all your Christmases have come at once. It will be interesting to see what else you do to it. We have been to Rarotonga last week and there is some 70 series LCs over there. Keep the happy travels going

You didn't mention it, but I'll bet your towing experience levelled up exponentially with the '76! Hope to get to the next Pioneer Camp - so start planning! Great content. Cheers, dd

    Hey Simon & Liz,
I love your 76 build and the attention to detail… one of the best builds I’ve seen.
I’m not sure how far down the East Coast you are so far but we stayed at a great leafy show ground in a beautiful little town called Berry if you’re looking for a nice spot along the way.

Great vid guys. Rig looks awesome
That traffic congestion is like that every day and has been like it for last 5+ years thanks to slow construction. Chinese would have rebuilt GC to Bris distance in larger scale in 12 months - have to lovecAusaie contractors and the Pallachoock government!

With the new regs on lithium and batteries in habitable areas what did Enerdrive say about lithium batteries in the back of vehicles do they have to also be in a sealed and vented to the outside box ? Asking for a friend lol 😂 I guess ya don’t have a troupe carrier with a bed camper top fitted 😉. Cars looking smick and Driving next to Trucks in the rain on a busy freeway sucks

We haven't decided what to do there yet. Bog and paint wasn't really a viable option. We'll come up with something.

With the enormous amounts of money that people choose to spend on their van and vehicle set ups, there are no free camps as such. Everything comes at a price 🤔
