Doug as a "character" and larrikin. Wished they had touched on more about his cricket history and career. One of the best batsmen in the 60's and 70's.

Dougy opened the Doug Walters Oval in Katherine in 1979 and it was there we all found him to be a terrific bloke.
As a batsman he was his own man and I saw that when he got a brilliant 100 between tea and stumps against the Poms at Perth in 1974.

It's a shame his test bowling was never touched on. I can remember him as a very useful change bowler. He took 49 test wickets at 29 with a five-for. Now that is handy.

A likeable larrikin, Doug was a colorful character who enriched the game and brought in a fresh flavor of friendliness

After spending a couple of years in the service, I am very sure that if K D Walters was playing today and batting at five or six, it wouldn't be a drama. 😊

  • @papprajoosachanarayana2834

What is it with blokes like him. "In juniors I was a bowler." I suppose he just thought I'd have a go at batting... went on to be an all-time great.

Don’t forget he averaged nearly 50 in test cricket!

Like Crash, but too many questions about Doug's beer and skittles, not his game.

I was going to say exactly the same. It's almost as though he's suggesting that young players follow the same path.

He didnt have a great record in England BUT i believe Australia would have won both at Headingly and Edgbaston had he been picked in 1981

For years I used to hear stories of what a hilarious addition to every dressing room Walters was. Then there was TV show produced about the humour of Australian cricketers and not only were none of them the least bit humourous, one of the worst was Walters! Fair dinkum, he was about as funny as a toothache!
