- A ride and review of the 2022 Triumph Bonneville T100, British class at its best! I was originally meant to review the Triumph T120, however the dealership had sold it, so I took out the T100 for a ride.
This is probably the most iconic British motorcycle ever made, the original Bonneville from Triumph. I own a Triumph Speedmaster so was very interested to ride the T100. A motorcycle with classic British styling and old school design, is the T100 the best of the Bonneville range?
The perfect definition of a motorcycle, the T100 could be the most iconic motorcycle in the world. British engineering at its best!

Just had a testride on the T120 after renting a T100 two weeks ago and WOW what a difference! Two completely different motorcycles!
The torque of the T120 is amazing and feels great, the cornering and general feel of the bike however feels way more heavy. Not good or bad just totally different.
For me I come to the conclusion I really appreciate simplicity AND light bikes.
I'm going for the T100 and I plan on using it everything really (town rides, camping and travels).
What can I say: the T100 simply puts a smile on my face other bikes so far haven't.
No rocket science but simply following my emotions...

Completely agree, The T120 definitely has more grunt but overall the T100 feels better to ride. Much better around town and tight twisty roads. The T120 has the edge on the highway but the T100 is perfectly fine and understressed at highway speeds. You don't buy a Bonneville for speed, it's just the feel of the bike and the ride, that's what I always have to explain to people. The T100 is just right!
I have the StreetTwin, excellent motorcycle. The Bonneville range is outstanding, and I have never regretted the purchase.

My brother has a Street Twin and a T120. I bought a T100 because it has the best of both.

I have the older water cooled (2017) T100 . It's a great machine all you say is true. It's also very frugal on a run, the best mpg I get is 83. The bike is also easy to service. plugs and valves every 20k and the rest oil and filter every year is a doddle. The front tires seem to wear out before the rear which seems strange. but overall would recommend.

Great review. My 2017 T100 is still my go to bike. Did 3000ml 2week trip which included the NC500 and I loved it. Easily keep up with my brothers Moto Guzzi v850 TTT and with Triumph King & Queen seat and Tec dropped foot pegs very comfortable. Averaged 72-75mpg so easy 200ml tank range. I put a Tec cam, decat, dyno jet power commander and and a Nissen 3 pot caliper on the front so it’s probably similar to the latest upgraded T100 with 60bhp at the rear wheel. It’s suspension’s been sorted by MCT and it’s my “keeper” bike, absolutely love it!

Sweet spot bike , you would not miss the 1200's extra power 95% of the time . The Street Scrambler is the
absolute peach of the range though ( IMO ) somehow it just works and becomes more than the sum of its
parts . Its IMPERATIVE anyone test ride different bikes before they decide , spec sheets only give half the story .
Yes I used to own a Street Scrambler and I regret selling it!! Such a brilliant bike. I will not make the same mistake with my Speedmaster!
Absolutely right, spec sheets are just half the story. Definitely agree they have to be test ridden to get a feel for the bike. I really like the 900cc Bonneville engine.

Never thought I'd be so enchanted with a coloured bike but that blue does look really nice. By the time I have the experience and money for a Triumph, I should be able to cope with the higher seat. Definitely one to try. Good review 👍🏻

I’ve ridden the 2022 Speedy, T100, and T120 along with other brands. The T120 was by far better for me in town and out on faster roads, country and highway. The T120 is just as nimble and I love the power if I need it. I do have a smaller inseam, so that’s the only thing the Speedy had over the T120 for me. I had to get rid of my 1200cc Harley Custom as it was too heavy (distribution of weight too) and too shaky for body pretty much over 30 mph. You really should try the T120 too! :). I’ve never had a bigger smile on my face when on the T120 and when getting off of it. Sooo much fun!

It was a very tough choice between your Speedy and the T120. I road them both twice again the same day after having ridden them. I love the cushy laid back, but power when you need it Speedy. I had a silver tank gold line setup to buy, then I went with the colbolt blue with sparkles/silver ice T120. If I could I’d have both. One day maybe. Either way it’s a HUGE improvement over the Harley with my aching body and needed to ride for mental health and my wallet with gas being so pricy. You can’t hardly beat 70 mpg!
I’ve watched many of your videos and others also and made my decision with a pros and cons list. as both bikes were so well loved. You were swaying me. I just do more city riding though, so T120 suited me more for now.

I loved my T100. Had it for a couple of years. Changed to the Speedmaster, but only because the SM has such a fantastic relaxed riding position (and relaxed engine, gears, etc. All geared to being an 'easy rider') which suits my dodgy knee perfectly.
If the SM weren't just that bit more perfect for me, personally, I would have stuck with the T100.
Though, would I have been tempted to a T120?... Must try one for comparison... Or wait for Gus to ;^)
My advice to anyone thinking of getting a T100 or a T120 is definitely try both on the same day.

Real nice lookin bike I would have one of those amongst many others , later this year I may well be lookin for a lighter bike for running around on and this could be in the mix with the interceptor or the 660 tiger have do a lot of testing to make the right choice .Nice one : )

I looked at one but left the dealer with a Street Twin. I expect it is very similar, to my Street Twin which is really nice.
Hi John, yes the engine is exactly the same. It is very similar to the Street Twin, however has a slightly more relaxed riding position, and obviously the more retro/classic style. Both great bikes, hope you are enjoying your Street Twin 👍
Very nice video on the Bonneville T100. I live in the states where we have many divided highways and the speed limits are 70 mph. That being said I think I would have to choose the T120 for the more relaxed engine speed at such speeds. There are other reasons, The T100 have a polished exhaust system where the T120 is chrome. I like the T120 Gold Line where the fenders are painted to match the sides of the fuel tank, and I like the polished wheels over the black ones. The T120 also has gaiters on the forks instead of the little cheap looking plastic guards and cruise control is standard on the T120. I know the T120 is a lot more money, but I like it. I just wish I could buy one, but due to my wife's health issues I have to keep the motorcycle I now have. Happy riding to you, and stay safe.

I love the look of the Gold Line models, so pretty! It can be a problem sometimes, there are so many bikes that I want but just cannot afford them all at once!! At least we can admire their beauty.

@@redangrevival I have a friend who owns 75 motorcycles, mostly old Triumphs and BSA''s. He also owns a 1947 Indain, a 6 cyl Bennelli, MV Augusta, a few Harleys and many others. He also has a 427 C.I. '69 Corvette, a '67 SS Chevelle, and a '66 SS Chevelle along with his every day drivers. My wife has battled cancer eight times, had 12 surguries in ten years, maxed out on Chemo, radiation and Cyber knife treatments. She is currently on Immunotherapy treatments and will be every 28 days for the rest of her life. The radistion she had in 2011 has ruined the blood flow to her hips and she had a new hip put in june of last year. She had brain surgery in August of last year which left her sort of like a stroke victim. So these days she walks with a walker, but she can still walk out in the garage, crawl up on our trike and we go for a ride every day the weather is good enough. We used to ride 15,000 miles a year. This year we will still manage to get in 10,000 miles. We went to a trike three years ago when the cancer in her brain caused her to have seizures. We felt on the two wheeled motorcycle we had if she had a seizure it might cause an accident hurting both of us and maybe others. Our thoughts were if she had a seizure on a trike I should be able to pull over and tend to her needs. If it were not for all of the health issues I would buy a TRIUMPH BONNEVILLE T 120 GOLD LINE!

@@redangrevival I asked my friend with all the mtorcycles if he had a mop in his garage. He asked what for. I told him to mop up all my drool. My wife is amazing and loves riding on a motorcycle (even if it has three wheels) We started dating in 1970, I like to tell people she was only 14 yrs old, but the truth is she turned 15 a week later , I was 17. Both of our sins use to ride, but both also had Glioblastima brain tumors. Our eldest suvuced but had a crippling stroke five years ago and can no longer ride. Our youngest died when he was 23 yrs old.of the brain tumor. We never know about tomorrow, the Holy Bible has many promises in it, but our next heartbeat isn't one if them. So we should enjoy life as best we can without sinning and be greatful for all the Blessings.

Thanks for this. I am recently retired and thinking about getting a bike again. Its been a loooong time. I'll be riding on local winding country paved roads and some well maintained dirt roads, (not trails), here in rural Vermont. Can't decide whether I need/want the scrambler version. I think not. This bike will do just fine for what I have in mind and I honestly do not like the high pipes on the scramblers.

I have a 2018 Street Cup,5 gears but perfect at 3000 rpm in third around the back roads,change down to second for corners.

Benefit of the single front disc that nobody seems to mention is it makes it so easy to do tyre pressures 😊

The T100 for me is perfect. The 900cc engine is an absolute gem, extremely smooth off the bottom and at road speeds. It's beautiful and healthy as well. The power/tourqe fits the bonnieville better than the 1200cc. The ratios are tall, and you can cruise at 70mph around 3600 revs, not bad when it revs out to 7500. The tourqe gets you moving and makes it feel faster than it is. Overall its a motorcycle that makes you get out and enjoy the ride!

I’m about to go shopping for either the T100 or the T120. I’m inclined toward the T120 in wine and grey….or whatever names they give them. I’m 65 and beginning to wonder whether the T100 might just be the ticket here in New Zealand. We have lots of climbing, descending and corners BUT I’m a sedate rider…… Thanks for your great video and yes it is possible to feel English being just two generations away.

I've had the t100 here in Scotland for 4 years now,it's perfect for scenic roads and 75+ miles to the gallon. You'll love it, except for chain adjustment which is an exhaust removal effort.

Loads o torque at lower speeds with T100, very flickable, no fighting it on the corners. that's your bike my friend. I've 112.000 Km on my 2017 model, loving it and the newer ones have a little more poke. But they don't look nice at all with all that black on the casings and black wheel OMG

Great video. Really wanted a Speedmaster to replace my Harley 1200 custom. Love the Harley but not great for longer rides. NOW I’m torn between keeping Harley and having a cheaper 2nd bike or a new Speedmaster or a bonnie🤔. . Thanks for the great reviews.

What do you think of the T100 for a beginner? What options would you recommend? Also, what do you think of the T100 for a bit of touring? I wish all the color options were available in the US.
Hi Bill, I think the T100 is a brilliant bike for a beginner. It is light and has a nice amount of power but not too much. Also of course an adventure style bike would be better for touring, but the T100 is very comfortable and you could easily tour on it.
Sounds like a great fit for you. I would recommend trying the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 before you buy 👍
How comfy is it compared to the sm when going for a short trip with your lady back? I'm thinking about sm but rhe t100 has way better price. My trips would be 2h max
Hi Jean, I would say if your trips are 2hr max then the T100 will be more than capable and comfortable. It is a very comfortable riding position 👍 As for riding with a pillion, I am sure it would be fine, however you may want to consider the T120 with a bit of extra power for riding with a pillion. Hope that helps!

The T120 in my view is slightly more touring capable than the T100. Question: what is the exact phone case you have on the front? Seems very useful to have some storage there.
Yes I think the T120 would be better for touring with slightly more power for the faster roads.
The phone case is actually from Halfords! It is meant for cycling but just fits brilliantly onto motorbikes 👍 Sorry it does not have a model name on it, so I can't help you with that!! But it is on sale at Halfords stores

It's a better bike in every single respect therefore justifies its price . The RE is fine but people who say its better
value for money are frankly talking rubbish . One often overlooked factor is service intervals ... Triumph
every 10,000 miles , RE every 3000 . Plenty of mint very low mileage Bonny's available also which are by far the
best choice in a financial sense .

You would not be comaparing like with like. Enfields are OK but the build quality is way off compared to Triumph
T100 vs Z900RS . . .you've ridden both - which one gets the vote? Need to ask them to borrow a Speed Twin
That is a tricky one! Very hard. The Kawasaki is much more powerful, but the T100 just has that classic charm and is more comfortable.

The SM is 15% heavier but has 20% more power and 32% more torque.
You need to be more brave with your SM throttle, Gus, hehe! I reckon you were experiencing loan-bike exuberance!
Having said that, the T100 certainly isn't lacking. The gears and mapping are nicely arranged, though you sometimes wish you had a 6th for cruising, it's no big deal.
Haha I know I think I was getting a bit carried away!! It not quicker then the Speedmaster, however I was surprised by it. Possibly the lack of weight and wind screen made it feel faster at the time.
As you say, it is definitely not locking power. A great motorbike, loved it 👍

Does it feel to you, while riding this bike, that there should be a 6th gear? Have heard a few people think that it is less relaxing to ride out on the highway, because it feels like there should be one more gear…..
I don't think so that much. It would be nice but you are not missing out on much. The 5 gear is quite long anyway. If you want to be more comfortable on longer rides then the T120 is a better choice 👍

Hi, yes I did know they where made in Thailand, similar to many other bike manufacturers! Designed in the UK but build abroad to lower costs. I am sure they make a good premium on them!!
the only thing which puts me off buying this bike its the british! im scottish not british however i ride suzuki bikes have done for years but the little butchers apron logo thats on these bikes pisses me off, not to worry i will probably buy a t100/120 very soon lol peace and love from scotland

All good, they are great bikes, full of character and heritage. You can't go wrong with one. I would love to ride the NC500 one day.
@@redangrevival yes it is part of the UK but personally i would rather it was independant and nothing to do with the choices in westminster. when i see the union jack i reminds me of empire and war. but yes triumphs are great bikes and i will be buying one in the future as im 56yrs old and getting too old for a gsxr lol

Great looking bike......but what a pity those spoked wheels run tubed rather than tubeless tyres. Also, those Pirelli Phantom tyres are dreadful in the wet. And why do Triumph plaster such a beautiful tank with idiot stickers - more than any other manufacturer?

I'd have to say, until you get up in the 70 mph range, the 900 is probably gonna seem plenty peppy. At 70 or so is when you feel the difference. That extra gear and 300 cc,s makes the difference.

I think I agree! The 1200 would be better for longer distance rides etc... But for pleasure rides on a country road the 900 is great 👍 Cheers
@@redangrevival Oh for sure. I have a 2005 t100, and it's just fine. I always wish they'd have added that 6th gear. Just to tach down the engine when highway riding. But then no one would buy the 1200.haha. All the bikes I've owned have been under 900 cc,except the VMAX. But it wasn't a cafe style bike. But it sure was a highway machine.
Anyway you're definitely correct. The 900 is just fine for a commuter and nice bike ride. And you can't beat the looks. Thanks again 👍

I have the T120 and never ridden this one you tested on the video. These Bonneville are very well done motorcycles and a lot of fun to ride on B roads. On the highway the T120 can achieve interesting paces but there’s a problem:- The people that drive cars on those motorways think, “ there is a motorcycle , a classic one, slow…but riding fast, I’m gonna overtake it!”, and they change their speed to catch you. It’s just stupid!!!? What for? What is there about this bike that provoques them?
When I am riding my SDGT, in a very calm way on the highway, no one dares to overtake…they just wait behind the motorcycle…In conclusion:- I love the bike but for all reasons I prefer to ride it on back road courses, on a more relaxed way.
I’m sorry but I don’t understand what you mean about “feeling British “ riding this bike…I don’t feel japonese riding a Yamaha or German riding a BMW. Greatest masterpieces after being made and when they become iconic, it turns out belonging to the world, not to the Author anymore or to one People, isn’t it?

I didn't mean the British thing as a bad point! It is just a feeling I get, it is quite obviously a classic British looking motorcycle. Much like Harley Davidson's have that American style (which I love). I agree though I don't feel particularly German riding a BMW!! Cheers
There is nothinng whatsoever wrong in taking pride in your countrymens achievements...The Beatles are British, Elvis is American. In USA sales of Triumphs stalled when it was announced that they were to be built in Thailand. Enfield make much of the fact the Interceptor Is designed and built in Britain. Indian owned Norton proudly claim their bikes are British made. It is called heritage and it matters a great deal.
@@asacarrick1385 So you say and I obviously respect others opinions. Although nothing is mentioned in that sense on the video. The word “heritage” is not used once. And I agree. Heritage is of course an important value. My observation, if you read carefully is not meant to diminish Heritage but only accent that human creation achieves an higher ground and meaning when it is worldwide shared. The Origin is important but the destination and results are by my view, what gives relevance to the origin of that objects creation.
