  • segment from the ESPO interview: • Steve ESPO Powers. Ep....
    Steve ESPO Powers is an artist from Philadelphia who wrote graffiti under the name ESPO. With a distinctive approach to bombing, ESPO would paint high traffic areas in daylight under the ruse of legality, making it appear that what he was doing was legal. Painting gates with a brush, he would write ESPO in large legible letters; telling authorities he represented ESPO "Exterior Surface Painting Outreach" organization. Steve Powers stopped writing in 1999 and began the path of a full time artist. He is a mixed media artist who has shown prowess in printmaking, installation art, murals, sign painting and more. His work has been shown in places ranging from Deitch Projects to the Brooklyn Museum. His work can also been seen at ESPO's Art World, an art studio/gallery located in Brooklyn, New York founded by Steve Powers.

    REVS will be remembered as one of the absolute greats, always in his own lane with no compromises. True king.

    Revlon was on the trains in the 1980's & Kinged the Rooftops with.Cost in 1990's. The Subway tunnel Diary was so Original. They are still down there!!!!

    Much love and respect ESPO + REVS. That whole t-shirt copyright issue went down after a conversation I had with ESPO in like 2003. I noticed a funky "graffiti inspired" t-shirt being mass produced and sold at Target. It had a clear Amaze tag lifted right from the pages of The Art of Getting Over, which I had a copy of. I reached out to ESPO to let him know. They went after the lames and everyone got their due. Getting over yet again with style!

    All the way over in Chicago, Revs is and always will inspire us, decades later, UAC, J4F, XMEN, UEMF.

    Sick. I always loved Revs. Since I was a young guy when the city was completely covered with Cost and Revs Huge roller stuff on roof tops and ledges plus page after page of his life story in the tunnels plus all the weat paste propaganda all over the place with weird catchy sayings. One of my favorites for sure. Who does steal cut outs and goes and welds them to spots. Hes the man straight up. One of my favorite true pirates...

    REVS was a king x10 by the time espo rolled out.
    The damn traffic light middle finger stickers killed the entire game. COST REVS kings

      @GameCracka-bf9im no. He was not.
      Espo was a cost rail rider who came to nyc to do paid roll down gates. He linked up with revs and revlon took him rolling sides of bldgs downtown nyc.
      Move on

      @GameCracka-bf9im LoL. Who gives a shit about Philly in the 1980s. Philly is an armpit compared to the home of graffiti

    Fantastic episode. Screaming about what you think is or isn't graffiti, is a dead end road. Open your mind and be like Revs. 👍

    I would take pictures of graffiti in Brooklyn, and go home and do my editing, and then I would see all these fresh REVS metal sculptures hidden in the pictures. Love those things, everybody does 😆

      I took pictures in Manhattan, when I visited NYC in 1995. I loved the DONT WALK lights, so took various pictures. Back home, I then noticed the COST REVS posters.
