- SONICAKE Octaver is a true bypass octave pedal with the most classic analog circuit design. Able to respectively produce notes one octave or two octaves lower than the direct signal.
Octaver's sound is inspired by the classic octave pedal sounds of the 80s. Continuing its warm octave effect, the circuitry has been carefully redesigned to deliver accurate octave notes. All in all, the Octaver is an effect pedal that’s great for delivering rich melodies when playing single notes on a guitar or bass.

Wise sonic words here, I like how it sounds, great review
4:30 - You are correct. Using an octaver on low notes results in indecipherable mud most of the time. The only octave pedal I've ever experienced that didn't struggle with tracking under A was a Digitech Bass Synth Wah, and I think that was because it's not analog. But here's a protip for everyone wanting the best tracking possible: cut your highs on your bass. This will eliminate the overtones and help the octaver track as well as possible.
Many modern *digital* octavers track below A fine. Some like the Source Audio C4 (best in class tracking I've seen, drop the synth, just as a pure octaver) track to a low B with minimum adjustments to play style, if anybody's interested. I too could find no real use for going that low, it's mud and it sucks the life out of your amp/cab. I don't even know why I keep buying all these different octavers looking for better low tracking...
MXR and EBS also track fine down to low A
@wolframheldmaier727 I mean kinda. I had a green label EBS and I had to be very careful below G in E standard tuning.
sounds real good
Seems very close to the Boom Ave. I love that lil beastie!
Another octaver flavor.... MIAAAM !!!!!
Sounds neat. I wonder how it stacks up to the octaver of the bass flu rig v1
The POG is king but I am super curious about trying out the new MXR Poly Blue Octave pedal. The MOOER Tender Octaver is a very good low profile octave pedal as well (almost as good as the MicroPOG).
thanks for remembering me about my pog. but... it is digital and has lag. still awesome for sub octave.
but the sonicake octave is analog with no delay. awesome for guitar (and synth)
Was the guy at 0:20 playing Junior's Eyes? Very cool!
Any plans for a Mesa Subway 350 review?
Damn never thought I’d hear Johnnys eyes again unless I specifically looked for it
depends on the tone or effect you are going for. Stacking a fuzz w/octave pedal on low end can get really dirty/ugly. but what do I know I run a super OD as a boost pedal on my board and a second fuzz as well, which I have been told is a weird thing to do.
I love fuzz or distortion after an octaver. Reversing the signal chain can also produce some interesting sounds. Depends on what you're after.
Yep! I got a Darkglass Microtubes X for Christmas, and I think this pedal will make it REALLY sound monstrous! I'll get it when I get the chance.
@@whitegriffin92093 And how are the results? Expecting it should be fat meat because the X leaves the low end clean. I'm waiting for my Sonicake and think about similar routing, octaver => higain.
@@user-br3xe5bw5c correct.
you should have demoed it at oct1 only
Ooof... these pedals are difficult for me as it's hard to find a useful sound for my band. The tracking on the inexpensive pedals just don't seem to cut it. I have yet to try out the new MXR octave poly fuzz or whatever, but in my experience, the POG is king and hard to beat for my needs (yep, bass solos hehe). I recently got a Whammy Ricochet and it's very capable, as well, but I'm using this more to convert bass signal to run into a guitar preamp. :D
The tracking difference you hear is more about digital vs analog than the price of the pedals. Analogs can only be monophonic and don't track as well, especially at the lower pitches. However, the tone is different. I prefer the sound of analog octaves. I use a Aguilar octamizer, but I never play anything below the A on the E string. It just won't track.
I heard junior's eyes,noiceeeeee
Slap a 5 string tuned to F with -2 octave plz
would it work with guitar?
Yes! I use one for both guitar and bass.
It's a guitar pedal, yes
First we all need to work hard on all string control and articulation in order to make good output from any octaver. Is not a plug and play pedal, not for everyone, not for every key/pitch
listen to how Pino Palladino does it
but it tracks just fine, in my experience
You didn't mention note sustain. I decided go buy that pedal after watching your video. But that pedal doesn't hold the octave on long note sustain. Very disappointed.
Analog octave pedals can't really do that in general. It's not this one specifically.
Yep sounds like crap if you have long notes in the song, and with the lowest notes have even less sustain. Not a worthy pedal for bassist , believe me, save your money for something better
I was thinking just the other day about getting me an octaver.Until I found out...I can't afford one.
37,99€! it is extremly affordable.
@@andreasdeutinger7319 Nice one.Thanks very much,mate.
It’s hard to stay objektive if you get paid by the manufacturer.
Tell us you don't use Octave pedals without telling us you don't use octave pedals... If you want to see how to use an octave pedal watch any video by Janek Gwizdala
Sorry, but I think it sounds crappy.
That's all octaves in general... This does the same as the rest, just not for you (or I) it's got an organ like character to it
Some of your comments on this video show that you’re new or do not pay attention. These are all archived riffs that we record with the wiretap and then re amp. Meaning we didn’t collaborate everyone you see to write riffs specifically for this pedal or solely for use of demonstrating octave pedal capabilities. It’s designed to provide you, the viewer, with as many sound bytes and examples as possible. Do all riffs translate over seamlessly to showcase a pedals pros or cons? No. Does it give you a variety of styles and examples that you can discern enough from what you see and hear to have a better idea of what a pedal sounds like, can sound like or in this negative context I keep reading SHOULD sound like… yes… yes it does. So in conclusion, the constant hammering of insults regarding what’s being played with regards to this pedal… Calm Down. We tried calling Pino and Janek but they weren’t available… something about… making a better octave video demonstration to combat our video… 🤷🏻♂️
It's probably better to just not respond to the trolls.
@@agitatorjr normally I wouldn’t but Chris and the team work very hard and we try to include our subscribers by having them submit footage that we can use for the channel. Kind of a thank you for their wanting to participate. It’s so unnecessary to shit on people who aren’t being paid for this, that want to include their subscribers and show love to the bass community. I guess the vitriol just comes off as a wtf to me…
Personally and in my opinion, all octave pedals make the bass sound bad.
I use an octave pedal purely as a way to affect the tone, not as a way to get a lower note. Going more for an organ pedal or synth bass (when stacked with a fuzz and filter) sound instead of bass guitar sound. When used with that mindset they can sound really good!
For the most part, I agree, but, if it's done properly, with an intelligent bassist and a good octaver, it can really enhance, and even change the sound of a song. Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer wouldn't have been the same song without it.
