- Recorded on a pleasant summer afternoon, as I sat on our little balcony at home. These two verses are among the most important in the whole Bible. Because they tell a lost soul how to be saved! Watch carefully ... eternity may be at stake.

Love these verses. I remember my Pastor Dr. Steve Echols at Elizabeth Baptist Church quoting verse 12 just about every time he gave an invitation to be saved at the end of the service.

Great study, Dr. Bagwell! Jesus is the God of the open door. Romans_10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. For as many who rejected Him, there are those that received Him. "Received"/λαμβάνω/lambanō/to reach out and accept the gift. The Holy Ghost wants to show us here that a new believer doesn't know all of the doctrine yet. They don't know the depth of God's love for them. They simply take in the gift of salvation that God has offered. "Received" means to take Him, to have Him, to catch Him. "Gave"/δίδωμι/didōmi/to grant, to allow, to permit, to appoint, to establish. "Power"/ἐξουσία/exousia/liberty of action, delegated power. "Become"/γίνομαι/ginomai. We are given the power to become of of God's sons, we have the authority and miracle of being born again into His family. "Sons"/τέκνον/teknon/punishment, God's child who will need some training and discipline. Amen! After we are saved, we need to be adjusted and chastened. "Believe"/πιστεύω/pisteuō/to believe and continue believing. This means that we commit to Him and trust Him. God said it and that settles it. "Name"/ὄνομα/onoma. Verse 12 shows us man's part of salvation and verse 13 shows us God's part of salvation. Great point! "Born"/γεννάω/gennaō. We didn't birth ourselves, God birthed us into His kingdom if we are born again. Our bloodlines have nothing to do with our salvation. Human blood did not get us saved, only the blood of God will save. 1Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. Flesh is not interested in God. It is interested in a steak dinner, a comfortable mattress etc. "Will"/θέλημα/thelēma/the desire. Human flesh will run from God. "Man"/ἀνήρ/anēr/the man as opposed to the women, the male of the species. 50 times this word is translated "husband". John is comparing the spiritual birth with the physical birth. "Of"/ἐκ/ek/out of God. Our new births are spiritual new births. John_3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. The man made all of the decisions for the wife in ancient times. He could not decide salvation. It is only God's will. Great study tonight , Dr. Bagwell!
